  • Interesting, but not really what I wanted

    by NewWave80sRule on 4/23/13Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 3 out of 5

I have to be honest and I mainly went to see Billy Bragg, who was great. He was the final act. I wish he could have played longer. I didn't really know many of the other acts. Some were good. Some were way too country for me. But, I did get to meet Billy at the end of the show. So, I have to say I did get my money's worth. Also, it was a nice intimate setting. I got to sit in the front row and I was happy. I also have to say that for this particular location, I was really confused about the address. I was coming from out of state (pennsylvania). It was not that far, but I haven't been there before. They should have just said the Creative Arts Center instead of Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre. The street address for that location in my GPS simply didn't exist, so I was a bit confused when I got to Morgantown.

Any concert in this theatre is a treat. Sound is even and pleasant. Seating is very generous and comfortable. I always have a great time at Mountain Stage events.

  • Why only 4 songs?

    by baddog1948 on 1/24/13Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed the show but was baffled as to why the main attraction, Robert Earl Keen, only sang 4 songs. Everybody else did at least five and Rhett Miller did 6. A lot of people were there to see Keen and many were upset.

  • Show was good but too many performers booked.

    by 1202013 on 1/22/13Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 3 out of 5

I attended the show on Sunday Jan 20 at 7pm. Seating was open seating, which seemed fair- first come first seated. We drove 3 hrs to attend the event. The sound was awesome- very few annoying vocal mic problems. I attended the show to specifically see Robert Earl Keen, who sang only five songs performing last in the line up. I have to say that I will not be back to see a show booked with that many artists / bands. I was also disappointed that the majority of the performers did not come out to sign... and therefore, chose not to purchase CDs / tshirts at that time. Venue seemed less viewer friendly- concession stand closing early, no intermissions without missing performers, and no schedule to anticipate the next performance. In the future I will look more closely at the lineup and choose more flexible venues.

  • A wonderful show at the Keith-Albee, Hntigton WV!

by Advobri on 11/7/12Keith Albee Theater - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The show on November 3, 2012 at the Keith-Albee theater in Huntington, West Virginia was amazing. The first act, Blue Wanting Red set the stage for a great evening, as the lead singer put his energy into everything. Nellie McKay added dry wit and a theatrical flare to the evening, while Spirit Family Reunion got the whole house tapping with their raw talent and sound that combine the lyrics of today with the music-stylings of the past. The Mountain Goats brought us back with a contemporary and introspective view point. Finally, Dr. Dog came upon the stage and raised everyone off their chairs with a genre-fusing display of energy and talent. To paraphrase one of Dr. Dog's latest songs, Mountain Stage "do(es) the Trick!"

  • Ben Taylor

It still was a great I was very disapointed that Brandi Carlile didn't play I was pumped for over a month to see her. The Trishas were very good great songs and vocal harmony's. Kat Edmonton voice was also very good, she has alot of range. Was really impress with WV's own Logan Venderlic. Ben Taylor was great didn't expect him to be so good. So overall very good.

This was my first Mountain Stage show. The main act was sick and I considered getting a refund and leaving, but my daughter talked me into staying. I'm so happy she did! The level of talent from all of the performers really amazed me. It was a fantastic show that opened my eyes to music and musicians I had never seen before, but can't wait to hear more from. The audience was diverse: just a bunch of people excited to hear great music. LOVED it. Oh, and most of the performers were in the lobby afterwards signing autographs and taking pictures with us. It was very impressive for the grown-ups, but my ten year old was as thrilled as if she was at the Grammys. What a great night.

Arlo was great, as was Paul Thorn. Mountain Stage never fails to put on a great show.

  • All the bands were so good. really enjoyed it

by JABloom on 4/20/12Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 5 out of 5

Lera Lynn was very good I'm a big fan of her know, Leftover Salmon was excellent the singer had gone school at WVU so it was great., The Punch Brothers was the best and Joan Osborne with her great band knocked it out. Her song selection too good.

  • Punch Brothers - WOW!

by Pattyrea on 4/17/12Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 5 out of 5

I love the Mountain Stage. Where else can you pay $15 and see a showcase of AMAZING talent? The Punch Brothers are absolutely unbelievable. The only way to describe what they do is call it chamber music. It's literally what goes on on stage - each has a very distinct part and everyone executes flawlessly. They energy created on stage is unprecedented, as well, and they're just nice guys. Chris Thile could dance a little less, his playing is great and it's just flat out distracting. It was great to hear Leftover Salmon again, as well. I'm looking forward to checking out more of their shows this summer - welcome back, guys, we missed you! Everyone should do a Mountain Stage taping at least once, and the next time you'll bring new friends along to experience it -- we have every time!

  • Johnny Winter was great

    by wills7 on 1/22/12Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 5 out of 5

I try to see Johnny Winter at least once a year, and Mountain stage was a great event to see him. My wife and I also enjoyed all of the other acts as well, especially Ruthie Foster. thank you for a great event.

  • Johnny Winter Rocks!

    by bigred48 on 1/18/12Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent show! Mountain Stage never disappoints and this time was no exception. All artists put on a solid performance with Johnny Winter and band performing for one hour plus. Fantastic!

  • Mountain Stage Blues

by Willgwv on 1/17/12Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 4 out of 5

My lady and I went primarily to hear good blues. We did hear some good blues. The variety of music played was very good. Ruthie Foster was dynamite. We agreed that we could have listened to her all evening. Magic Slim was also dynamic. We have been to Mountain Stage before and it always is good entertainment. This show was no exception. We knew that the main draw for the card was Johnny Winter. It was almost alarming to see him as compared to his rockin' blues days with his brother. He can still make his axe sing however, we both were a bit disappointed that most of his numbers were too loud for his vocals and generally too loud overall. I did see several people leaving after only a couple numbers. Yet, it was good to see a legend, no matter how much age had taken from him, to be able to perform in such a strong performance. The show got an "A" but Johnny just managed a "B."

  • Ruthie Foster was amazing!

by JerryLB on 1/17/12Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 3 out of 5

I'd give 4 or 5 stars to all, but Johnny Winters - it wasn't him, it was the loudness. Why was Johnny Winter so loud? I like loud music but this was terrible, particularly in the CAC, with such poor acoustics.

  • Mountain Stage is great!

    by Lgator360 on 10/5/11Lyell B Clay Concert Theatre - MorgantownRating: 5 out of 5

We have been to two shows in Morgantown, and the live music is always exciting, yet soothing. There is no better entertainment value anywhere.

I have been wanting to see mountain stage live for over 20 years. I was in DC for the weekend and was driving back to Indianapolis and took a detour to Charleston. All the performers we great! The audience was into it like I was. Can't wait to make another trip. I recomend it to any lover of live music.
