“MORE THAN A BROADWAY SHOW. A CELEBRATION OF MUSIC THAT TRANSFORMED AMERICA!”
– CBS Sunday Morning
It began as one man's story… became everyone's music… and is now Broadway's musical. MOTOWN THE MUSICAL is the true American dream story of Motown founder Berry Gordy’s journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and many more. Motown shattered barriers, shaped our lives and made us all move to the same beat. Featuring classic songs such as “My Girl” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” experience the story behind the music in the record-breaking smash hit MOTOWN THE MUSICAL!
Amazing theatre and great show. The theatre was easy to get to off the expressway and very pretty.
My wife and I LOVED this show. You GOTTA go!!!!!!!
The music was great, but I would have liked more Gladys Knight and much less Diana Ross. Why did Berry Gordy want to have that bedroom scene? It was awkward, unnecessary, and way too personal. That said, it was still great entertainment.
Motown according to Berry Gordy is the story of Berry Gordy put to Motown music. Not much of a story beyond the creation of the company and the times it lived through. The music was of course fantastic - it's Motown!! Several years ago we saw Smoky Robinson perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra - that was a great show - that was 5 Stars - pure magic, pure smokey. Motown the Musical - 3 stars overall.
We absolutely loved the show! It was like watching the history of our lives. I remember all of that. When I got home, I dug out my videotape of the original Motown 25th Anniversary TV show and watched the entire thing. The cast was fabulous! I would heartily recommend this show to everyone, especially Detroiters. I don't think a non Detroiter can appreciate it as much as we do. Loved, loved, loved it!
I am a too young to remember everything about Motown until the Jackson 5. I enjoyed Motown the Musical. I loved the music and so did my husband. He grew up in Detroit and was more aware of the Motown sound.
The actors were amazing. The graphics were also incredible. We sat in the balcony of the theater and the musical was absolutely breathtaking and highly entertaining. I would say to anyone that if you love Motown, you've got to see this.
I grew in the era of the Motown Revue at the Fox so it was a very good memory.
Outstanding performance by cast. The production brought back many memories from 60's and 70's. Just my taste, but a little too much Diana Ross and not enough of the other Motown artists.
It was awesome. I don't know what to call it one of the BEST! Top notch. I want to go again before it leaves.
Toe-tappin' trip down memory lane. Took me from junior high through college with music of the decades. I recommend this to anyone who grew up listening to Motown music. It was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a few hours.
Totally awesome. Would love to see it again. The only negative is that people arrived late and so there was lots of chaos in trying to get them seated. Very annoying.
Fantastic show! My 90 year old mom and my 16 year old daughter both loved the music, dancing, sets, acting, everything.
One word........ Bravo!!!. I just wished the did less of the Supremes and more songs from the Temptations and Four Tops!
The music, singing, and dancing of Motown are pretty outstanding. However, the show is far too long at just about three hours. It is the longest musical I've seen and could definitely have some scenes cut short or eliminated altogether, particularly the Barry Gordy solo at the end.
Great music!! Any fan of pop should see this show!!
I felt as if I was sitting in at a Motown Review with Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and so many others on stage. I will go see this again and again and again. I grew up outside of Motown and the Musical told the story of the era as it happened. Unbelievable musical! I am still talking about it and can't wait to see it again.
It was high energy and informative. I had a lot of fun.
This was the real deal, lots music, dancing, and just good fun to watch. Not probelms parking; getting into the event or leaving after the show. I would go to another event if one of was given at the Fisher Therater.
If you are a fan of Motown you will love this musical. It's full of high energy entertainment ! It brought back memories of just how entertaining these performers were! Made you want to get out of your seat and dance!
