About

Motörhead is an iconic British rock band, originally formed in 1975 and still going strong. Their original sound, hard work and creative musical development have seen them become one of the world's most renowned rock bands, with a vast fan base across the globe.
The band was originally formed by Ian Fraser Kilmister in 1975. He's more popularly known as Lemmy and is the singer, songwriter and bassist for the band. In a changing line-up, Lemmy has remained the only constant member throughout Motörhead's 35 year history. Other band members include — or have included — Brian Robertson, Larry Wallis, 'Fast' Eddie Clarke, Lucas Fox, Peter Gill, Mikkey Dee, Wurzel, Phil Campbell and Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor.
The band's influences are diverse, and they are considered to be one of the first members of British heavy metal's new wave movement, which brought a fresh sound and approach to the musical genre between the late seventies and the early eighties. Although the band is typically associated with the heavy metal genre, their sound is unique and they are known for creating their own groundbreaking "fusion" sound of punk-led rock, along with sounds that pioneered early thrash and speed metal. Lemmy has often said that he feels more influence with punk rock than with heavy metal. Their sound has remained authentic to their roots over the years, and their fan base has grown accordingly. They have well over a million likes on Facebook alone. They have collaborated with Girlschool and the Plasmatics, among others.
Their career has seen Motörhead release over 21 studio albums, along with 12 compilations, 10 live albums and 5 EP releases. The most successful chart success for this power trio was during the early ‘80s, when they had a number of singles in the Top 40 charts. One of their most successful singles – and one that crossed over into mainstream appreciation – was “ Ace of Spades,” released in 1980. Some of their most beloved albums include the Ace of Space, Overkill, Bomber, Aftershock, The World is Yours, Kiss of Death and No Sleep 'til Hammersmith. They have sold over 30 million albums across the world and toured extensively across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia – often returning to their UK roots when they can. They have also played at a variety of festivals, including Reading and Leeds and European events.

Clutch was great. Motorhead sucked but what can you expect. Sounded like Lemmy was singing out of a hole in his throat. But what can you expect from a guy that's been rocking that long. Overall sound was pretty good. Beer prices were fair, but I didn't get why they were $5.50 instead of $5. No one likes loose change!

Great, legendary band marred by terrible acoustics

by tryptronyk on 2/19/11The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

The chance to see Motorhead for the first time was thrilling, and the amazing ticket price - under 10 bucks ($9.89 to be exact, underwritten I'm guessing by the KC rock station 98.9) was too good to pass up. The band was awesome, and the songs were just what you'd expect - pure, gutbucket rock and roll, chugging along to the expected (and amazing) "Ace of Spades." You can't go wrong with Motorhead. See them if at all you can. However, the Midland...whoa. Never been there, and was immediately impressed by the opulence of this turn of the 20th century movie and vaudeville palace. Epic and cavernous are the words that spring to mind. Impressive on its own terms, but who wants to hear a rock show in a cave? It goes without saying that the original architect had no idea the savage decibels the building would one day be home to, and the incongruity between music and venue was made painfully clear as each amplified sound turned into a mesh of white noise. I'm not strictly referring to the music, either. Even Lemmy talking between songs was nearly indecipherable. And you can insert jokes about Lemmy's gravelly voice now, but it was that way for every performer throughout the night. Both the Midland and Motorhead - taken individually - are amazing. But the elderly grand palace is no match for amplified rock and roll. The Motorhead motto is "Everything louder than everything else," but when that loudness turns into incoherent audio fuzz, even Lemmy would have to cry foul. The caveat being that, at under 10 bucks, I got to see Motorhead, which was awesome. If the tix had been more normally priced - say in the $30 dollar range, it would have been quite disappointing overall.

    Low Dough Motorhead

by Hoenass on 2/19/11The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

The show was fun. The set changes were quick and Midland is simply beautiful. The sound seemed pretty good, my son and I were only about 8 feet from the stage but it sounded good where we were.

    New material strong!

by david9660 on 2/19/11The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

Not as loud as last year, still an amazing performance from veteran pros. Probably had complaints from miles away last time, many fewer Marshall stacks now. Didn't have as many deep-catalog songs, okay because the new stuff is SO GOOD. Also better with their real drummer. Sorum did a fine job but the feel from the band is better with Dee. Very busy, incredibly fast. Only bummer was the opening acts. Hard to beat Nashville Pussy and Rev. Horton Heat. Cool to help out up-and-comers, I'd be surprised if these guys go anywhere. Tough to open for Motorhead, maybe just had off nights. If you have any interest in the type of heavy rock that Motorhead plays you HAVE to see them if you get the chance. Your efforts will be rewarded, Motorhead always delivers the goods.

    MOTORHEAD WAS AWESOME

by LEMMYFAM on 2/19/11The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

GOING INTO THIS CONCERT I WAS READY TO ROCK AND HAD LISTENED TO THEIR NEW ALBUM 10-15 TIMES. THIS WAS THE 4TH TIME I'VE SEEN MOTORHEAD AND I HAVE TO SAY THEY SOUNDED BETTER THAT THEY DID WHEN THEY PLAYED AT THE ROCK'S HALLOWEEN SHOW. MIKKEY AND PHIL ARE GREAT TOGETHER AND LEMMY AS USUAL WAS BLASTING AWAY ON HIS BASS. THESE GUYS PUT OUT AN UNBELIEVEABLE WALL OF SOUND FOR 3 GUYS. I BROUGHT A NEWBIE TO MOTORHEAD WITH ME AND HE WAS AWESTRUCK BY THEIR POWER AND PRECISION PLAYING LIVE. LOVE LIVE LEMMY AND MOTORHEAD.

    Pure rock and roll.

It was amazing and the midland seems to have a similar give to the fox in st. Louis nut not quite as large.

    Midland did mötorhead no favors

by Footballjuggalo on 2/19/11The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

I thought the bands were great but i think the midland is the wrong venue for a metal show....the echo was killing the vocals and the guitar licks

Valient thorr was good, Clutch was great and Motorhead annoyed us until we left halfway through their set. The sound was horrendous when Motorhead took the stage. The instruments and vocals were indistinguishable. It was simply a cacophony of noise. I don't know whose sound crew was in charge but I will avoid events at the midland and Motorhead from now on. Bottom line, this event is worth it at to see Clutch and Valient Thorr but I would not recommend Motorhead.

Best place on Earth for an old school beatdown

    by BeeeeePeeeee on 2/18/11Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

Usually concerts have at least one band that sucks- not this one. Valient Thorr is always great (ticket master has it misspelled) Thorr has 2 R's- for Rock & Roll . You Know What I'm Talkin' About ?! Valient Thorr is always super high energy. Valient Himself's banter is legendary. Great opener to get your blood pumping. Clutch has it's cool dark groove. Personally I'm not a big Clutch fan, but a great live vibe you can't help but to get into. And the man,the legend, the god, Lemmy with Motorhead. If you are a real deal metalhead you will know when Lemmys on stage, growling in front of you, at more decibels than a jet taking off from your face, there is - at that very moment - no better place on Earth for you to be.

    Living legend

    by snaggletooth32 on 2/18/11First Avenue - Minneapolis

As is always the case, Motorhead delivered and reminded everyone in attendance why they are the most underrated and consistent bands to ever grace the stage. Those that complained about the ticket price, clearly don't have an appreciation for how priceless an experience it is to see Lemmy strut his stuff on stage. Great to see a sold-out Tuesday night show pay homage to this legendary band.

    Motorhead was incredible

    by joec319 on 2/18/11First Avenue - Minneapolis

Overall great show! Motorhead took control with tons of energy and nonstop rock. I love how Lemy can still rock after all these years and probably drink many of us under the table. Can't wait to see them next time they are around here!

    Motörhead still keeping it Metal

by Mashero on 2/17/11First Avenue - Minneapolis

Motörhead is still socking after all these years in the metal business! Valiant Thorr (who was the first opening act) was amazing, its a shame that they didn't get to play more. Clutch was the second opening act but I have to admit that they do not seem to fit with the whole "Metal theme" that should have been there, after all its Motörhead we are talking about. I would love to see them again.

This concert was great from beginning to end. All the bands rocked like crazy, all started on time, no long waits for the concert to begin or waiting between sets. It was a sold out show. It was a blast and I highly recommend going to see any or all of these bands!

    100% Motorhead

by Motorizer on 2/17/11First Avenue - Minneapolis

Good show. Mickey Dee played his heart out with the drum solo. Other than that it was 100% Motorhead, with Lemmy as witty and humble as ever. "The next song is : Rock out with your cock out!" and the show started with " We are Motorhead and we play rock and roll!"
