MORRIS DAY AND THE TIME IN CONCERT:
Longtime Prince collaborator and fulltime smooth Morris Day is one of the most swaggering and peacockish funk performers to hit the stage since the Purple One himself. As the frontman of the Time, the charismatic Day built a serious name for himself in the ‘80s with his colorful showmanship, introducing international audiences to his slick stage presence in musical films like Purple Rain and Graffiti Bridge. Whether he’s preening on jams like “The Bird” or leading call and response on classics like “Jungle Love,” Day is nothing if not a consummate showman, and fans can expect him to pull out all the stops on tour with the Time in 2014.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Minneapolis in 1981, the Time was the brainchild of Prince, who put the group together as an outlet for his funkier leanings while he pursued other directions as a solo artist. Fronted by Morris Day and featuring a talented cast of players, the Time racked up a string of hits in the early ‘80s, gaining an additional popularity boost from their featured role in Prince’s classic 1984 rock musical Purple Rain. With hits like “Cool” and “Jerk Out,” Day and co. became one of the most successful groups to originate from Prince’s creative wellspring, and despite several splits and reunions, they’ve lost none of the funk that made them. The Time will let it all hang out once again in 2014 as they hit the road for a tour schedule that has them sharing bills with fellow greats Kool & the Gang and Chaka Khan.
Live from beginning to end I'll go see him again if he come real talk!!!
Great show. Been a fan for 40yrs. Band still jives. Sounded good. I like they all still dance. They did Prince tribute and played 1999. Played mostly MD&TD tracks -really didn’t recognize any of his solo songs other than Fishnet. Encore with Jungle Love. Really Solid show!
Purchased tickets to see Morris Day and Dru Hill. The concert was pretty good, but let's talk about the Akron Civic Theater. The theater is definitely historic and upon entering you can tell...that's not a compliment. But the clincher was thinking we had front row seats only to be taken to 2 folding chairs! I walked back to make sure the usher took us to the correct seats...folding chairs. We could have gotten the cheap last row of the balcony and had better seating! Don't dress up if you plan to attend an event here. Oh and make sure you use the bathroom prior to going and don't drink anything as most of the stalls were out of order. I think I saw the performers laughing. Really disappointing for the price we paid for the tickets. I am so glad we have a good sense of humor as this was truly a joke..buyer beware..
Dru Hill was fabulous! They were full of energy and they sounded amazing!! Morris was very entertaining just like in the past !!!
Dru Hill was/is absolutely phenomenal! I will DEFinitely go see them again. Wow!
The entire show was Fantastic! I was so happy to see all members of Dru Hill there. They rocked it! Amazing show. Tribute to DMX was beautiful! Morris Day was amazing! I loved it! That man still moving like he is in his 20's. Loved to see that! Beautiful show!
Amazing performances Great vibes and worth the money
He looked really good and the band was pretty good as well for not playing many gigs as of late. Sang all the hits. Very enjoyable. Akron Civic Theater is a beautiful venue, great place to see a show. First time there and I thought it was great for almost being 100 years old.
Brought back so many memories and so much fun! Morris is still as cool and funky as ever. Hoping he continues to perform as long as he can. Although I miss the other original band members (Jellybean was there!), this touring band sounded fantastic.
The Best concert I been to in a long time. I really enjoyed spending time with my daughter and my wife. We enjoyed every song the was played
I don't know who selected the opening act. Morris Day was great!!!!!
Morris Day again gave a great performance in Detroit and he paid homage to Prince and the fact that WJLB radio helped him get airplay 40 years ago. Ain't nobody bad like Morris! Go see him if you ever have a chance. That was show four or five for me in the past decade.
The venue is beautiful and the show was very timely. Seeing Morris Day and the Time took me back to the first time they came to Detroit at the 20 Grand in the early 80s! I really, really enjoyed myself!
Motor City Sound Board, great seats and atmosphere
This was my 1st time having the pleasure of seeing Morris Day & the Time. I must say though that I was disappointed in how long it took to set up the stage, it took 30 mins or so to set up the stage. It didn't take that long between the other performers. I was only able to listen to the first 2 songs they played as it was after 12: 15 when they started to play. I had to leave due it being late and needing to catch a plane @ 6am. .But what I heard from morris day & the time was excellent. Hopefully I can see them again and really enjoy his performance! Must say all the performers of the Summer Jam rocked the house. Great show from all 👍👍!! Keep up the good work on bringing awesome music!
It was so wonderful hearing live music and reminiscing with great songs from the past. They don’t make music like this anymore. Enjoyed the entire show.
Very disappointed in Mable House for this show. Doors were supposed to open at 6, however, they didn't open until 6:30 and no one informed us why there was a delay. The camera operators couldn't keep up with the show and was always missing the action. The sound for the SOS Band was horrible, we could barely hear it on the lawn and I was at the very front. I've been to many shows at Mable House and this was the worse one. All the acts were great, it just would've been nice for their music to be presented in the best way.
I thought the show was fairly good. I always enjoy seeing the baby boomers out having a great time. Morris day will always be a fan favorite. I miss the real Jerome that stunt double wasn’t in the flow like the original. Overall I give them a B-.Morris Day stage present is still on point. That’s my honest observation , peace out.
Music was not loud enough to be heard in the back of the venue. The first two groups were rushed off stage. Also the gates opened about 25 minutes late.
The acoustics were terrible. S.O.S. Band was pretty disappointing, especially since I was really looking forward to seeing them. Morris Day/The Time we’re just ok. Con Funk Shun were the best…they should have closed the show. I will be rethinking this venue going forward.
