MOGWAI IN CONCERT:

Scotland-based post-rock band Mogwai have been enchanting audiences for nearly 20 years with their ambient instrumentals and guitar-driven sound. At their mesmerizing live performances they play their down-tempo hits with precision and ease, vibing off each other beneath tranquil projected images that perfectly compliment their experimental sonic environments. Whether they’re playing new tracks from their 2014 release Rave Tapes or treating fans to old classics like “Auto Rock,” Mogwai are sure to leave fans awestruck on their upcoming world tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

School friends Stuart Braithwaite, Dominic Aitchison, and Martin Bulloch got together to form Mogwai in 1995, naming their band after the furry characters in the film Gremlins. The Scotland natives released their debut album Mogwai Young Team two years later, introducing listeners to their signature instrumental sound. Since then, the post-rock band has released eight studio albums including 2014's Rave Tapes, which peaked on the Scottish charts at No. 2 -- their highest charting album yet. Mogwai are constantly expanding their repertoire with new projects -- whether they're collaborating with Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) or composing soundtrack music for the film Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, they never fail to present their music in a unique way. Mogwai won't disappoint as they share their hit-filled sets with eager fans on a string of upcoming tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I have seen Mogwai several times and they get better every time! They really give fans an experience with improvisations of some of their best songs. This band is a must-see. Very inspiring concert!"

"Their sound was absolutely amazing and their set list incorporated the perfect amount of songs from each of their albums. I would see Mogwai again in a heartbeat!"

"These dudes are a sonic force of nature. Mogwai sound great and their playing is incredible. Great show."

Loudest Band ever. Songs from the new album Hardcore Will Never Die but You Will were really impressive live.

Mogwai: The Loudest Band on Earth

by Valis on 5/11/11The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

When I bought my copy of their most recent album: Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will, it came with earplugs in a Mogwai logo case. Which reminded me how intensely loud this bad is live. Mogwai's music whiplashes from quiet melodic moments into full force assaults of of sonic blasting. The show was transcendent. Everytime I've seen this band, they are at 100%. Nothing worse than a phoned in show, but Mogwai. . . those guys are a freaking force of nature. This was my first event at the Regency Ballroom, and it had great sound and space. The only negative was that the security seemed really uptight and edgy, but for all that no more effective than the security at the Fillmore and Great American Music Hall, where I seem to always end up at for some reason. (I guess they just book the bands I want to see.) Anyway, yeah. . . Mogwai, they are not my favorite band to listen to on CD (though still good) BUT. . . they are hands down one of the very best live bands I've ever seen.

Mogwai is amazing but horrible opening band!

by backnoise666 on 5/9/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

My entire star rating goes to Mogwai for their loud, amazingly energetic, and epic sound. Their performance was a great experience. My only complaint is that Showbox booked this horrible dance band called "Errors". With the amount of talent we have in the Northwest I am pissed they booked this boring and unoriginal opener. They were mindless dance beat repitition with horribly eq'ed guitars, and no structure. No to mention their entire sound in NO WAY fit with this bill.

    Mogwai ruled it.

by CB1KNOBI on 5/9/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

It was such an amazing show. They played mostly the new album, which was cool, because unlike so many other legendary bands, the new album is totally comparable in spirit and quality to their first albums. I was however, totally stoked when they finished with an older favorite song of mine. Very cool. Furthermore, I have to admit in the past I have joined the ticketmaster dis club, but had a sobering moment on that prior follishness. I lost my ticket, and living about five hours away from Seattle at the time I realized this, I thought I was screwed as the show sold out. Ticketmaster had a replacement ticket for me at will-call. I apologize for spouting my previous years of ticketmaster dissing. What a fool I was.

Mogwai, Maybeshewill, Explosions In The sky, God Is An Astronaut, Pg. lost. Five best noise post-rock band ever. Still want to see Balmohea, The Seven Mile Journey, Sigur Ros, The World's End Grilfriend, Toe.

    pretty bad by mogwai standards

by PenPenPen on 5/7/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

I've been a really big fan of mogwai for almost 15 years, seeing them about once a year on average for the last 10. I've always supported them by buying LPs and merch (something I rarely do for other bands). They are one of the few bands I get geeky excited to go see. I'm almost too disappointed to detail a review- but feel like this show sort of represented a the end of an era for me (and maybe for mogwai)- The sound was confusing-bad at this show (this may have been the worst part), the band is tired, and their new drummer is still catching on. New songs feel uninspired and use predictable forumlas, old songs have been played so many thousands of times that it seems the band is unable to play them with perspective. The volume has been turned down over the past few years- which I get, but have secretly hoped would return. Mogwai, for me, used to be a raw, visceral, emotional experience- full of truly creative and beautiful music that surprised and impressed. Maybe they grew up, maybe I did- but I felt like I was watching my old heroes perform their dayjobs on stage rather than a solid rock show. I love these guys and will still buy their albums- but I've spent enough money catching them on tour to last me now.

    Mogwai - First time

by livemuzikfanz on 5/4/11Bluebird Theater - Denver

Excellent concert. Wasn't really familiar with Mogwai's music. Relatively short initial set, but out for a long encore. Would definitely see them again. A bit too loud, perhaps. Drummer had a lot of energy and added to the overall music (the drummer for Errors, sitting in as a replacement.) Errors was also quite good for the opening act. Maybe a 5 star rating if I was more familiar with their music. Great venue and crowd.

    OH myyyyyy!

by sandiegojennifer on 5/4/11Bluebird Theater - Denver

Mogwai kicked some serious butt at the Bluebird in Denver! Each of the band members is so talented in his own right so their sound together is flawless and magical. I was in a trance for most of the concert.

Great performance. I see Mogwai everytime they're in town. Bluebird is a perfect venue for these Glasgow giants.

    Good show, great venue

by Ingadinga on 7/24/09The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

I couldn't believe it when I saw Mogwai was coming to town, and I almost missed their only Bay Area appearance as I found the ad by accident just a week before the show....just got into this band and what a great surprise to see them. Although they don't have great stage presence (little to no interaction with the audience) they played a variety of songs from lots of recordings to near perfection. Their style of music may not be the best for "getting into" in a live setting, but it was great just seeing them.

    Intense

by SpookBullet on 7/19/09The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Brilliant & intense performance @ a wonderful venue. My wife claims their show blew her mind, far exceeding her expectations. The only way this could have been improved is if they let me choose their opening act & if they would have added a concert in Northern California! All in all worth the 6 hour drive down & $200 hotel, we appreciate all the effort they have endured to travel to the west coast. Many thanks.

    Cool Show

by gahgah on 7/12/09The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Probably the best sound of any show I've been to. Crisp, loud, not overdriven. Mogwai were cool and talented and put on a good show, but are in some ways a one-trick-pony. The opening act was fantastic.

    Amazing night

by Awsten on 7/12/09The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Besides the 10 minutes of loud static at the end, this concert was the best I've been to. Mogwai is outstanding and even better live. The lights were great, the music amazing as expected. Go see these guys if you get a chance.
