MOGWAI IN CONCERT:

Scotland-based post-rock band Mogwai have been enchanting audiences for nearly 20 years with their ambient instrumentals and guitar-driven sound. At their mesmerizing live performances they play their down-tempo hits with precision and ease, vibing off each other beneath tranquil projected images that perfectly compliment their experimental sonic environments. Whether they’re playing new tracks from their 2014 release Rave Tapes or treating fans to old classics like “Auto Rock,” Mogwai are sure to leave fans awestruck on their upcoming world tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

School friends Stuart Braithwaite, Dominic Aitchison, and Martin Bulloch got together to form Mogwai in 1995, naming their band after the furry characters in the film Gremlins. The Scotland natives released their debut album Mogwai Young Team two years later, introducing listeners to their signature instrumental sound. Since then, the post-rock band has released eight studio albums including 2014's Rave Tapes, which peaked on the Scottish charts at No. 2 -- their highest charting album yet. Mogwai are constantly expanding their repertoire with new projects -- whether they're collaborating with Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) or composing soundtrack music for the film Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, they never fail to present their music in a unique way. Mogwai won't disappoint as they share their hit-filled sets with eager fans on a string of upcoming tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I have seen Mogwai several times and they get better every time! They really give fans an experience with improvisations of some of their best songs. This band is a must-see. Very inspiring concert!"

"Their sound was absolutely amazing and their set list incorporated the perfect amount of songs from each of their albums. I would see Mogwai again in a heartbeat!"

    Simply the best!

by Matt on 4/9/22Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

Mogwai is one of the founding fathers if post rock. Seeing them live for the first time after following their music for almost 20 years was an amazing experience. The venue in Philly was great, and provided an intimate setting to see the band play. Would go again in a heartbeat!!!

Best band at the best venue

    by CreativeUnderground.co on 4/8/229:30 CLUB - Washington

For their first night of the tour Mogwai we’re totally on it. They always Creat a moving experience, but this one was extra special. It was an incredible show with a similarly outstanding job performed by the sound and lighting crew. 9.30 club is the best venue for a how like this; great room with great sound, and the staff are always fun and friendly. I wish all bands played here!

    Great Live!

by Anonymous on 5/21/14Terminal 5 - New York

They put on a really good performance! Kept it interesting the whole time. The lighting they had going on fit perfectly with their sound. I would definitely see them again. It was so loud, I was thankful to have brought ear plugs. Opener sounded great too. But I will never go back to Terminal 5. The venue doesn't look bad, it just smells of raw sewage. And I've been told by others who have attended different concerts there that it always smells like that.

    Great show, great venue.

One of the heaviest shows I've ever been to, but the venue was great, not overly packed, and the sound was perfect. Nice lighting too.

Great show! They bring the music to life through the atmosphere they create and it reverberates every time I play their songs. Definitely going to see them again, no doubt.

My first Mogwai concert | Loud & beautiful.

    by PG67 on 5/12/14Terminal 5 - New York

While I appreciate some bands who "perform", for the most part it does turn me off. In my mind, the music is enough - so I don't need to see band members jumping all over the place. Mogwai absolutely ROCKED Terminal 5, but all they really did was just stand there and play their guitars. To me, that what it's all about. The MUSIC. The ENERGY in the room. They didn't need to do anything else. It was just amazing. I thought the mix was fantastic. The drums and cymbals sounded great. The guitars and piano sounded great. Extremely loud...but beautiful nonetheless. (I was on the floor, not on the upper levels. There were moments where bright LED lights from behind the band would swivel and point right into our eyes. I found that to be really annoying. I had to look away. I took my attention away from the stage. But other than that, the lighting design was really good overall.) Absolutely a FANTASTIC show and I'd highly recommend any fan of post-rock to go see MOGWAI.

Mogwai, very good but too short...

by mmgw on 5/12/14Terminal 5 - New York

The concert was good but too short, I believe at most an hour and a half. if money is not a problem for you, I recommend it, if you have to choose what to attend I'd say don't choose this one unless you are super fan...

    Les Revenants de Mogwai

by gashbrook on 5/12/14Terminal 5 - New York

Forgive the dreadful pun but after a disappointing show last year at Webster Hall, this was an incredible return to their imperious best. The set list was heavily biased towards Rave Tapes and Les Revenants and frankly, all the better for it. Mogwai sounded fresh and energized. And loud.

    Between subtlety and power

by vhrcabral on 5/12/14Terminal 5 - New York

A lot of post-rock bands can play their heavy pieces, some can even play soft ones with an exquisite talent, but few can do both in one concert, and Mogwai definitely can! It's always harder for instrumental bands to connect with the public, due to the absence of lyrics that are usually a catalyst for the aforementioned connection. But bands with the talent and touch of Mogwai, never suffer this affliction. Despite the very static placing on stage, never moving more than needed to change instruments (and they do that quite a lot between tunes!), the flow was always there, between band and public. It's not easy to tell stories with only melody and have an immediate reaction from the audience, but Mogwai did it with every tune played in Terminal 5. Playing Ithica after Take Me Somewhere Nice was masterfully planned! I definitely recommend seeing Mogwai live, and I will absolutely try to do so again in the next opportunity I have.

    Another great show by 'Gwai

by JjjjJJJJJJJjjj on 6/19/12Webster Hall - New York

I have seen these guys multiple times and they are consistently excellent. For them, it is about the music and that is as it should be. They hit all the right notes thematically in that they played songs off the new album and went into their back catalog also. My only disappointment was that they closed with "We're No Here," (a fine song) and not "New Paths to Helicon." Oh well, there is always next time.

    Music great, performance somewhat boring

by Millim66 on 6/19/12Webster Hall - New York

I really like Mogwai's music and I've seen them live a couple of times. Everytime I've left the concert thinking that the music is great but the band is quite boring. The sound is special, very rich and broad. It's heavily relying on effects and distortion in a nice way. It's a cacaphonic experience which builds up and being released. In some cases it's just built up. Mogwai's music is like a perfect marriage of Sigur Ros, The Cure and metal. If they were more interesting on stage they would be a 5 star act. This concert had very few songs with singing, it was mainly instrumental. I don't mind it but some people might.
