Miss Saigon on Tour
The latest touring production of Miss Saigon evolved out of West End and Broadway revivals celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Tony Award–winning musical's 1989 London debut. Arriving amid fevered conversations around the topic of immigration, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg's translation of Puccini's 1904 opera Madama Butterfly to the Vietnam War is timelier than ever. The French playwrights' extravagant "popera," conceived between their celebrated Les Misérables and Martin Guerre, has aged equally well on an artistic level. Director Laurence Connor brings realism and immediacy — and, of course, a scene-stealing helicopter — to this tense and tender tale of a Vietnamese mother who chooses to make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of her son.
About Miss Saigon
Miss Saigon begins on April 29, 1975, the night before the United States essentially ends the Vietnam War by surrendering South Vietnam's capital city. The colorfully amoral pimp, fixer and survivor known as the Engineer (Red Concepción) sells the poor yet virtuous country girl Kim (Emily Bautista) to an American soldier (Anthony Festa), who is forced to abandon her after a night of passion. Three years later, Chris, now married, reunites with Kim and their child in Bangkok.
Reviewing the show's 1991 Broadway debut, New York Times critic Frank Rich lauded Miss Saigon's lush melodies and praised it as "a gripping entertainment of the old school (specifically, the Rodgers and Hammerstein East-meets-West school of South Pacific and The King and I)." With its revival, audiences can again swoon to gorgeous ballads like "You Will Not Touch Him" and "If You Want to Die in Bed," which reflect Kim's transformation from a naive victim of circumstance into a steely conduit of fearless maternal resolve. The musical's contemporary relevance later reaches its apex in "The American Dream," in which the Engineer fantasizes about the supersized life he will lead when he finally moves to America, where the Vietnam War's lessons are still being learned.

Getting to the theater was a lot more difficult than previously due to the tragic collapse if the hotel across the street. However, once inside this wonderful theater that was forgotten and we experienced a very good performance if Miss Saigon. The cast were very good in all if the roles with Chris and Kim outstanding. The orchestra provided very good support. Having seen the production several times before I was curious as to how they might do the "helicopter scene " and I was not disappointed. Very well done. I would recommend this production to anyone!
The sets, lighting, costumes, and acting were all amazing for the show.
Extremely well done! Cast and scenery were incredible!
I was lucky to have also gone to the show during the same week different performance from the Sunday night performance. The Sunday night perfomance had a few glitches. The worse being the gun not firing when Kim shoots herself which made Kim's subsequent throwing herself onto the stage rather odd. It was not a standing ovation performance which the audience demonstrated. It a beautiful show and has been one of my favorites for years but Sundays performance was anticlimactic.
This was the third time we say Miss Saigon, and this production was absolutely amazing. The casts' voices were outstanding and the new choreography and updates added to the show. My only somewhat negative note was was that at the end they forgot to shoot the gun or it was miscued. No biggie if you've seen it before but maybe a little confusing for others.
Bad sound system, we could not understand song lyrics or spoken word.
I saw Miss Saigon performed beautifully about 20 years ago and loved it. I hoped my experience would be the same seeing it again. This performance surpassed my first experience, it is so moving and beautiful. I had an excellent seat and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I do wish the lobby was a little larger to handle the large crowd but that is not a complaint as it is a historic property and no way to alter that.
great experience, lead actress sounded beautiful!!
This is a must see! The cast did an amazing job. The music was outstanding. One of my all time favorites.
Stage production was outstanding and the Sanger theater is beautiful. Truly a treasure.
Saw Miss Saigon years ago and promised if it ever came back to New Orleans, I would definitely see it again. The story is very enlightening, the love story sweet, but sad. The music is outstanding and the performers were excellent. So was the stage production; sets were amazing as was the lighting, and, of course, the helicopter! All around wonderful experience!!
Very emotional for my Vietnam Veteran husband. The production really touched on many nerves. We pray that younger generations know enough history to understand the impact of specific events during the war.
The audience was a little dull; the story line was fine, some of the acts were a bit tawdry and racy but overall a very good production.
The cast was excellent but the story should have had an R rating. Then I probably wouldn’t have attended.
The last time I saw Miss Saigon was back on Broadway in the 90s. The changes made to the play since then punch up some of the drama. The helicopter landing still looks cool and is more visceral. The touring company is excellent loved all the leads all gave excellent performances.
It was my first time to ever see Miss Saigon and I did not know quite what to expect. It really shows the absolute horrors the people went through then and makes the audience feel like they are actually in Vietnam. The company members are all very strong and did a great justice to this show. Though it is very emotional and not an easy subject, I am glad I finally got to see this musical. Top notch production! Thank You!
The venue, as always is lovely. The story was not believable. They didn’t build a relationship. Both Kim and Chris’s voices were difficult to understand, m asking it even less believable. They were just not right for this stage.
I sat in section BB, 24 there was a tall lady with lots and lots of hair in front of me. I could not see anything. I didn’t know what to do. Before intermission she tried to put her hair back which helped very little but after it was a disaster. I wish I had been smarter about seat selection for my families first time at a theater.
Love the theater, comfy seats and great atmosphere. Only one issue, my husband has copd, gets weak easily - it would be nice to be able to get to a seat if you arrive a little early, and not have to be congested in the outer lobby. There are no places to sit - he ended up sitting on the trash can. It got very crowed fast and congested. Other than that, we a wonder experience.
