Minnesota Wild History

The state of Minnesota was without an NHL franchise for seven years after the 1993 departure of the North Stars. That void was filled when the city of Saint Paul landed the Wild as an expansion team in 2000. Hall of Famer Jacques Lemaire took over as the franchise's first head coach.

The Wild advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2002-2003 behind the play of right wing Marián Gáborík, and has gone on to post a winning record in almost every season since. Starting with the 2012-2013 season, Minnesota reached the postseason six consecutive times.

Center Mikko Koivu spent his entire NHL career with the Wild and is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, points and assists. In 2022, the Wild retired Koivu's jersey, the first player in franchise history to have a jersey retired. Overall, the Wild has qualified for the Playoffs 13 times in its history.

    Very Uncomfortable Seats

by The Duke on 1/5/24Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

We paid extra for Club Level seats because the seating map made it look like there was more room. My knees were in the back of the head of the person in front of me. I had no room to even move my legs or feet. The tiny seats made it impossible to enjoy the game. We left during the first intermission.

    Game experience

by Jen on 1/3/24Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Game itself was good, but the bag policy at the Xcel Energy Center always just leaves me with such a bad feeling.

    Good

by WildinWI on 12/30/23Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Received my tickets on ticket master and was asked to add them to my iPhone wallet then asked to add them to the Minnesota Wild app. It was a little confusing but I was able to enter the venue without a problem.

Any night at the Minnesota Wild game is a great one. Not only did the Wild come and put on a great show, but everyone else, from the Wild staff and concession employees, was amazing. They make sure you leave with a great experience!

    Family Budget

by David Gallio on 11/5/23Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Prices went up again for food? Nobody thinks about a family of 4 or 5 that that already spent $250 on Tickets to come to your venue - and probably there last time as a family!! $30 for parking. Then just to feed the basic that night a hot dog and a Bottle water is $65. yes $65!!! $8 for a basic hot dog and a bun? $5 for a bottled water that costs you $.78. I understand the new and fun food items. but really 8oz of criss cross potatoes and 4 chicken tenders had to go up to $15? at less then $4 in food cost, do you really have to make $10 on every boat? How many more would you sell if it was back at the 12 or 13 dollar price? I did like the black cups of sauce - didnt see any real diced onions for hot dogs any where? Music way to loud during warm ups and play stoppage. I was told the players like it loud, it would still be loud if you turned it down a couple notches - its so loud pp may not even notice. but you have to yell at the person next to you to have a conversation. people in charge of that should sit in the seats and test it - how would they feel if they just paid over $10 to yell at your wife!!!

    Beautiful facility

by HockeyBetty on 10/28/23Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Everything was great except getting to and from the facility. You definitely need a vehicle as the area is quite scary to walk in. Other than this 5 stars.

Season Ticket Holder (when in town)

by Indy WILD fan! on 10/27/23Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

There is not a big following of hockey in Indiana, I have been a fan since I was a kid and the Great One started his career there. I have been to many professional sports events from Football, Basketball and Auto racing and the energy at Wild games are uncomparable to much! The atmosphere alone draws you into the game, and the pregame experience will keep me coming back. Thank you for all the memories and when I am back in town.... I will be sporting either my #97, or #14 Sweater. Thank you!

    Sit down and shut up.

by trezz on 10/23/23Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

I unfortunately was sitting next to some young drunks. I missed most of the game including the first goal because I was constantly getting up to let one or the others in and out. Naturally as the game went on they got drunker and drunker and more belligerent.

    Just ok

by Mikezvw on 10/22/23Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

I enjoyed the game and atmosphere but, there was a constant flow of people moving in and out of their seats during game play. Not many food choices and the food quality was poor. Will need to eat before game in the future.

by Panda on 4/26/23Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

The arena keeps you going for the game even though it was not in Wild’s favor. Atmosphere awesome. One place where I was going to spend money for concessions was out of the meat

    State of hockey?

by Good not GREAT on 3/22/23Xcel Energy Center - Saint Paul

Excel center employees pretty much ruin your experience. All of them seem like they don’t want to be there. Just another hot dog served. They are not personable, friendly. The person riding in the elevator was the nicest person we can in contact with. It’s a shame. Lucky we are there to watch the best sport ever with the best hockey team.
