About

In the annals of pop music history, 2013 will forever be known as the year of Miley Cyrus. Facing unprecedented levels of public scrutiny over her racy image, her appropriation of hip hop culture, and even her haircut, the former Disney star still managed to come out on top, releasing her fourth studio album Bangerz to critical acclaim and a number-one spot on the Billboard 200. With production help from top-shelf producers including Pharrell Williams, will.i.am, and Dr. Luke, Bangerz features a unique hybrid of country and hip hop that has clearly resonated with audiences, earning Miley her first US number-one hit “Wrecking Ball.”

Rivaling the success of Bangerz has been the controversy surrounding Miley’s dramatic new image, which borrows heavily from “ratchet” culture in the form of grills, bling, and twerking. Provocative music videos for “Wrecking Ball” (dir. Terry Richardson) and “We Can’t Stop,” along with her infamous performance with Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, raised more than a few eyebrows, and even inspired a series of concerned open letters from Sinead O’Connor. Debate over Miley’s new image, however, has done nothing to hinder her success -- the videos for “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop” shattered Vimeo viewing records, and her VMA performance was the most tweeted about performance in the history of, well, Twitter. Add to that a successful October 5 appearance on Saturday Night Live and you could say Miley’s year has been “pretty cool.”  Fans can catch Miley LIVE in concert on her 2013 Jingle Ball tour – even if you don’t know how to twerk, it’s sure to be an experience to remember.

Miley’s career as an entertainer began in 2003 with several small acting roles, including an appearance opposite her father Billy Ray Cyrus on his hit show Doc. In 2006, she launched to mainstream success with her breakout role in Disney’s Hannah Montana, which spawned several films and albums, including her multi-platinum pop debut Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus.  In 2009, Miley gained exposure to country audiences with crossover hit “The Climb,” featured on the soundtrack for Hannah Montana: The Movie.  Her third studio album, 2010’s Can’t Be Tamed, marked a departure for Miley -- the inclusion of dance elements and a distinctly more suggestive image foreshadowed what would ultimately come to fruition on 2013’s Bangerz, her biggest success to date.

    Miley was Phenominal

    by rockstar2317 on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Miley put on an amazing show, she sounded awesome and her dancing was outstanding, she really knows how to put on a show. The show wasn't just for little girls, it was for teens, adults and everyone. she has really matured her style of music and could really pull off a rock show. Her music is generally pop/rock but she made it more of a rock show which i liked a lot, there was the guitars and everything. It was never boring, every song she always had something new going on, whether she was flying in the air, riding in on jeep or beaking out a ice!! All I have to say is that miley cyrus, is a show you don't wanna miss.

Miley's older brother, Trace Cyrus, the lead singer of Metro Station, (who also performed) was there and their performance was pretty cool to.

    Miley was Amazing!

by JellyBeanJoannaMarie on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Miley was just amazing last night, my cousins and I even agreed with each other that Miley was better the JB....No offence to JB, I <3 them to. Miley had awesome choreography for all her songs, she had the WHOLE crowd singing along with her. If i had the chance to see her again, I most definetly would!

The show was great, but Miley just isn't a dancer.

by gurujulp on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

The stage show was amazing, with decent pyro, AWEsome lights, and really good sound. With the audience participation on the screens via texting and teh kewl surprise moments of truly astounding stage technology, the show almost made up for the fact that Miley wasn't lip synching. Unfortunately, she should have been. I cannot fault her as a worker- she was singing her heart out and dancing it out too. She lacks the ability to do both at once, and while the dancing was semi-disguised by the show around her, her frequent costume changes, and the talents of her dancers, her voice wasn't helped by the normal filters and mixers they run her through for album and video production. At times out of breath and rarely perfectly on key, it was a rather sad event. She is a good actor, and she put on a good show. But stick with the tried and true supershow methods, and just lip synch it, Miley. Your fans won't care, but the people who fork out the money and are forced to put up with substandard fare would much rather hear the saccharine sweet bubble-gum remix than listen to her actually singing off-key and breath-less.

Miley Cyrus Rocked the Oracle Arena

    by HotMama33 on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

My friend and I took our eight year old girls to see Miley Cyrus at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA. The show was awsome....Miley gave a very action packed preformance and the back up dancers were great! The girls had sooo much fun!! We loved it! The automated ticketing was very simple and the line was not to long at all. Overall I would definitely recommend this show.

Miley Cyrus concert was the best thing of my life!

by onelovejb on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Last night me and three of my friends saw Miley Cyrus in Oakland, California. Her concert was the best thing ever and it was way more than a concert....it was a show! She had so many amazing special effects, really amazing dancing, and awesome props. There was always cool props on stage and she flew, was on a car, and so many other cool things!!! The song choice was awesome and she showed a clip from her new movie, The Last Song. I would definitely recommend this concert to any teenager, but it may have been a little much for some of the younger kids. Especially since she was only Miley, not Hannah Montana at all, the concert was directed to an older crowd and younger ones wouldn't have known as many songs. But I'm sure they would still love it, especially with all cool effects on stage!!! It was so amazing and Miley looked at us three times and waved to us once because we were in the fourth row on the side, directly in front of the cat walk!

Miley made the little girls squeel

    by 2ndGradeMom on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Metro Station, her brothers band opened for her. This was forgettable. He started at 7 and she didn't come on until 8. There were great sets, dancing, props, special affects. My daughter held onto the program for dear life throughout the show.

    Miley Cyrus YES!

    by kc1000 on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Miley was great but Metro Station didn't belong. The target audience was not right for Metro Station with all of the tiny girls in attendance.

    miley is adorable!

by amtl on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

my 7 yr old daughter + i went to the concert with two good friends of ours. we all loved it! miley is so entertaining + appeals to so many different ages. i was happy that the security staff at oracle was pretty low-key + allowed the girls to move around + dance in different areas. it made the experience so fun... my only complaint was with oracle. the acoustics seemed off, very muffled. i just dont think they have the state-of-the-art equipment like other arenas....

    Great Show

    by Tallspot07 on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

What a preformance. I did not have high expectaions going into this but tha preformance was greats. The opening act, Metro Station, was mediocre. Miley live sounds as good as here recorded stuff and the production/ effects were great.

    Miley Cirus Escaping Hannah Image

by Trishski on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

I thought it was a little provacative for a young girl. It started an hour late and was just over an hour concert. I was disappointed with her song selection....no Hannah songs, which I expected.....no opening act, which I expected, and no encore, which I expected especially since the concert seemed short. There were a lot of little girls dressed like Hannah...probably expected more music from the movie....but I understand the lack of songs since she is trying to breakaway from the Hannah Image. She has some great songs with beautiful lyrics that simply were not sang....I would have liked to see a softer side to her....but it was more metal/punk....not hard core, but different, and expected that....but I also expected more of the younger Miley songs as opposed to the head banging. I understand the new image, but most of the audience was there to see the innnocent side of Miley....lots of little girls and pre-teens.

    Miley's Talent Fills The Stadium!

by Mickeel on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Miley is so beautiful and talented. She is an amazing singer and has a strong voice that she uses to sing songs with meaning. She is fun and a great dancer. She has the presence of a singer with years of experience. She is so good and that is why she is able to handle going on tour and performing for thousands of people who are young and old. She is going to be a star for a very long time!! Miley is special!!

    She's growing up

by LovingDadThatAlsoListens on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Great concert. It definitely was not a Hannah Montana concert. She played mostly from her Miley catalog. Her performance lasted for about an hour and a half. She put ALOT of energy into her performance. My daughter loved her first concert!

    Great show!

by mommabutterfly on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Miley Cyrus definitely put out all the stops at the Oracle Arena last night! My girls and I loved it! Miley utilized the whole stage while singing and dancing! She even flew in the air during "FLY"! I especially liked how she mixed in "Thriller" by Michael Jackson at the end of a song!!! My only complaint was the parking situation at the arena...there was a sports game going on at the same time and with all the tailgaters taking up parking slots we circled the lot for over 30 minutes before the attendants opened up the VIP parking area. Due to the frustrating parking situation, we ended up missing the opening act...MetroStation.

    Mylie at Oakland

by Conure on 9/19/09Oracle Arena - Oakland

Our experience was average. Why? Had to listen to one full hour of Miley's brother's mediocre band before the star appeared. It's understandable she wants to help out big bro, but his group lacks talent and charisma. Also, the venue--huge coliseum--made Miley and her gang look like ants from where we were sitting, even though tickets cost $60 each (supposedly, second best seats). Miley's voice was distorted in this huge arena, with lots of echoing and muffled words. Miley sang a bunch of songs no one seemed to know--probably promoting new music, but unrecognizable. Then, she promoted her movie--she sang while panels of shots from her movie played. I knew the concert would be commercial, but this was excessive. On the positive side, the panels used to project images and the lighting were fantastic. We enjoyed the creativity of the sets. Most of the attendees were very young girls with their mothers--not a discriminating group. Most appeared happy just to be in the presence of the star.
