    Timely and Refreshing

by Hercules805 on 8/22/17Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

It was refreshing to hear this multi-talented group in their "activist" mode, addressing the very real political issues facing the U.S. today. Of course many of us came to hear their "hits" and they didn't disappoint. I would have been disappointed if they didn't play them, but their talent and passion showed through in all of their songs. Highly recommended not only for musical talent but also for unflagging relevance to today's political scene.

    Rock concert or political rally?

by Shazza61 on 8/22/17Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

We love Midnight Oil and have been huge fans for years. We know their music has a lot of political and social themes running through it. But we were very disappointed with this most recent concert. Way too much time was spent on trashing our president and political system. I'm all about free speech but I don't appreciate someone who doesn't even live in our country and who, by the way, made a hash of his political career in his own country, lambasting our leadership. Just play the music we all came to hear! We left early.

Not enough time for the Living End's set - only 5 songs - no songs from last two albums played. Disappointed in the lack of time they had. Midnight Oil too political as always.

Midnight Oil is Back After 15 Long Years

by CalGold on 7/7/17The Wiltern Theatre - Los Angeles

This was my second time seeing Midnight Oil. My first time was 24 years ago on their Earth and Sun and Moon tour. I still remember how much energy Peter Garrett & company delivered that night many years ago. Peter had a fan kicked out of the concert for being a bully to other fans. This disruptive fan was in the mosh pit & was moshing too wildly, so Peter had security kick him out of the venue. Even though I was not in the pit that night, this was awesome, simply awesome since Peter wanted everybody to be respectful to one another. Tonight it was my turn to be in the pit, but I had no need to fear about being amongst rowdy fans, since tonight the pit was filled with middle-aged men, & not rambunctious 20 year old boys like 24 years ago. I was so stoked to be just 20 feet away from Midnight Oil, who haven't toured for 15 years. After such a long hiatus, I expected Midnight Oil, who are now in their 60's, to have slowed down. But they have not slowed down any, & they delivered a high energy show for 2 hours. I was so pumped up during the show, & that energy continued with me all the way home. I had a hard time sleeping because their songs kept playing over & over in my mind. I finally fell asleep at 3:00 a.m., 4 hours after the show had ended. Wow! Wow!! My favorite moment was after they played 3 songs, Peter asked for 1 minute of silence to pray for the fallen in the UK after the recent terrorist attack that killed 22 people after the Ariana Grande concert. I bowed my head, closed my eyes, & offered a prayer. You could hear a pin drop, it was so quiet & respectful. Then Midnight Oil performed the perfect song after that moment, "Put Down That Weapon". Fitting! Perfectly fitting!! It gave that song a new meaning to me. Thanks Midnight Oil for that. Peter Garrett has so much energy. He moved & danced around the stage spastically, which gives him his unique, signature moves. His arms flail in synchronized spasms, perfectly timed to every note. The next day I showed my kids some pictures that I took at the concert. They immediately said that Peter looks just like Voldemort, the villain from Harry Potter. You know they are right. I had not made that connection before. I also played them songs from Midnight Oil. They had not heard their music before, but they quickly became fans of their infectious music. My daughter particularly liked the song "The Dead Heart". She loved singing the beginning lyrics of this song- 'Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do do' (repeated over & over). After singing this over & over a few times, my wife was ready to strangle her. I loved it. My daughter was now a true fan.

Still rockin it from down under

by rockndoc on 6/8/17Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Haven't seen mo since their last swing through the USA about 15 years ago. Amazingly, the boys still have it. Peter Garett still has not lost his voice and can carry all their tunes. Nio new music was done because there hasn't been a new album since Capricornia. Played a wide assortment of songs throughout their catalog with an emphasis on the diesel and dust album along with the blue sky mine album. Solid musical performance from all along with a surprise guest on trumpet and keys that was great. Only annoying thing was the overuse of that excessive guitar reverb from Jim mogine on a number of songs. Once or twice during a solo was ok but then he used that effect on almost every song in the second half. Show started exactly at 9 and stopped exactly at 11. Never seen a band play "exactly" 2 hours. Must've been under strict contract rules to play no less or no more.

    Midnight Oil was Outstanding

by Existentialist on 6/5/17Moore Theatre - Seattle

What a show! Peter Garrett sounds amazing! Definitely one of the best concerts I've seen this year. The songs Midnight Oil wrote so many years ago, are so relevant today.

In my Top 5 favorite shows of all time

by daisies911 on 5/31/17The Wiltern - Los Angeles

I've probably seen about 500 concerts in my life so far. This Midnight Oil show was Top 5, no joke! I went in a fan and left an ultra-fan. The power and the passion -- pun intended -- that they exuded was off the charts. And these guys are in their 60s -- I hope I am that energetic at that age! The show was so good, I've already secured a ticket for the Greek in August. I need to see that awesomeness again.

    Midnight Oil was absolutely amazing!

by SMSTEVE on 5/30/17The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Never having the chance to see Midnight Oil in the past I was really excited to hear they were reuniting for another tour. Without a doubt this was one of the best concerts I have ever been to, and I've seen quite a few. Two hours of just incredible music, energy and excitement. The Oils have not lost a single step, in fact I think they've gained speed!

    Peter, shut up and sing

by salemhobbit on 5/15/17House of Blues Boston - Boston

Okay, it's Midnight Oil, most of the songs are political, I know that, but this was Boston and by the middle of the show at least half of the crowd was bored. The first 15 minutes were good and the last 45 minutes were amazing but there was an hour of the show I could have done without.
