    Mickey never fails

    by Peanut65 on 12/5/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

The show was fantastic! Each band member brought the best of their talent to the stage. Loved the singer! And having Dave Schools there was just icing on the cake. Usually the venue is great also, but security that night was out of control. A few too many tweakers in that crowd and over the top unprofessionalism. Very disappointed in with the Aladdin for allowing that. Overall though, a great show.

    Great Show

by Seacoast on 12/4/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

It was nice to see Mickey Hart in a small venue. He is an exceptional percussionist. It was a pleasure to watch him perform, the rhythms flowing from him naturally. The other members of the band are all good. Together they put out some remarkable sounds. Most of the songs were new to me, but they performed several Grateful Dead songs very well. They played for a long time, over three hours. I had been to the Aladdin Theater before and like it, and knew that they only have general admission tickets. We took center aisle seats in the right section on the ground floor. The view from there would have been good. But, the Aladdin apparently allows people to stand in the aisles (is that a violation of fire laws?), so we had to stand if we wanted to see the band. Security had to drag a few over active people out from the aisle. Keep that in mind if you go to the Aladdin.

    Micky did it again

by shogie on 12/4/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

Micky put together a really good band this time. Before the show I was unaware that Dave schools was playing base. (love that panic) Loved the few Dead songs spicing up the setlist. At the center of the evening was micky laying down his magical drums. The young guitarist was really different and really good. The singing was great, the songs were really really great, and the instumentation was really x 10 great. Micky did it again.

    Mickey Gets Better!

by Hedgerider on 12/4/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

Every Mickey Hart show I have been to is different. Yet I've never been disappointed. Who knew that percussion could be so varied and deep in content and in delivery. Oh yeah, and the wonderful musicians and singers that Mickey seems to attract. Mickey seems to have a knack for letting people explore their limits, and in so doing making the whole group the greater for it. I guess by now You guessed that I'm sold. I'll never miss another Mickey Hart show, within a days drive from home, and I can still drive all night. ;)

Mickey Hart's Band Lovelight Shined in Portland!

by Arleeni on 12/4/11Aladdin Theater - Portland

When I heard Mickey Hart was playing the Aladdin, one of my favorite venues, it was a no-brainer to get tickets, especially at the bargain $25 price! Had second row seat on the right side which gave me a clear view of my favorite master percussionist and his incredible assemblage of percussion toys. The man is a genius who moves like a mad scientist of sorts when he plays--mixing brews and formulas of beats and sounds that stir the heart and soul and, of course, your feet! Mickey always assembles a stellar group of musicians. From the flawless drummer who played the "little" drum kit in the back, to the young lead guitarist, to the vocalists whose voices ranged from gospel and blues roots to African and Celtic lands. The international influence was WOMADesque. The range of music--from classic Dead songs to trance/dance to New Orleans rhythms and brass--transported the crowd to many places, including JUPITER and the SUN! Thank you Mickey and friends for coming to P-town!

    INCREDIBLE!!!

by WattsIsWhat on 9/4/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

This show was dynamite! Seeing two Dead apostles in such a small venue and hearing the beats that only Mickey and Billy can create was an heavenly experience! Tim Bluhm and Davy Knowles did a great job too on vox and guitar. They kept things really rustic. I mean I really feel as if I saw THE best live version of "Friend of the Devil" ever. And I'm a Dead vet. Scarlet/Fire as an opener was incredible too. Unfortunately I had to leave midway during the second set, but I left feeling fufilled.
