Michelle Obama on Tour

Former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama is no stranger to the public eye. The Chicago native maintained a highly visible presence throughout husband Barack Obama's two terms as President of the United States, and was comfortable in any situation: serving as an international ambassador, visiting schools, or moving and grooving at a Beyoncé concert. Like other first ladies, Obama is also using her post-White House time to make a difference in the world. A galvanizing speaker known for her down-to-earth delivery and real-talk approach, she embarked on a book tour in support of her 2018 memoir, ‘Becoming,' with appearances full of storytelling and conversation.

About Michelle Obama

Born in Chicago, Michelle Obama grew up in a loving household that prioritized family and education. Accordingly, she holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton and a law degree from Harvard. Although Obama did practice law—in fact, she met future husband and President of the United States Barack Obama while working at a firm—she also held multiple private-sector jobs. Most notably, she was the founding executive director of the Chicago branch of Public Allies, a nonprofit focused on cultivating leadership in younger generations.

As First Lady of the United States for eight years starting in 2009, Obama continued to seek out socially conscious causes that benefit the greater good. She championed women's rights and education for girls; became a vocal supporter of military families and spouses; and promoted healthy eating via multiple initiatives, including the "Let's Move!" campaign to decrease childhood obesity. Since leaving the White House, she's continued to be an outspoken advocate for gender equality, education, and political diversity. More recently, she released her second book, the 2018 memoir ‘Becoming,' which follows 2012's New York Times best seller ‘American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America.'

    Michelle Obama - Not spectacular

by Elaine on 10/22/23Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Most of the the anecdotes she related I has heard before. The moderator was not great. I know all the questions are canned, but they were not smoothly asked or answered. Seemed more like a book promo tour than an inspirational talk. I saw Barak Obama in 2019 and he was inspirational. Disappointed.

Michelle was wonderful, moderator was awful

by Sadie on 10/22/23Scotiabank Centre - Halifax

Michelle is a brilliant person and it came through clearly as well as her charm and wit. She was even able to correct the moderator a few times without the moderator realizing. However, this review is about Michelle, not the moderator. Michelle was fabulous!! Go if you get a chance!

    Great, great interview!

by A fan. on 12/29/22YouTube Theater - Inglewood

Enjoyed hearing Mrs. Obama talk candidly about life as a wife, mother, and especially as the daughter of a hard working father who loved his family. Her memories of her dad and the stories she shared about him were so relatable. As a fellow “Chicago Southsider” her stories and experiences hit close to home. It was a wonderful time! And, of course, there’s no better interviewer than Ms. Oprah Winfrey!

Michelle Obama Exceeded Expectations (if that's possible)

by Kendric on 12/29/22YouTube Theater - Inglewood

For starters, it was non other than DJ DNice spinning music to get the crowd hyped! What a great surprise. That was only surpassed by having the Queen of Media, Ms. Oprah Winfey, moderate the discussion. WOW!!! Two amazing women on the same stage KILLING it!!!! I will never forget that night and neither will my mom.

    MO at The Masonic

by JA on 12/27/22The Masonic - San Francisco

Mrs. Obama was fabulous. Tracee Ellis Ross as her moderator was engaging and fun. This theater is small enough that the show felt intimate but the seats are TERRIBLE. Folding seats? For the cost of these tickets? The Masonic should do better.

    Afterglow of Michelle Obama

by Susimone on 12/21/22YouTube Theater - Inglewood

From the moment we entered the YouTube Theatre, the positive energy and excitement surrounding MICHELLE's appearance was incredible! Standing in line to purchase her book was a prelude to how enthused the audience would remain...no one complained about the wait or slowly moving line...we were just glad to be there! Once inside, the DJ kept the house jumping and the energy continued until OPRAH came onstage (who knew she'd be the interviewer? Not I, and how exciting to see both icons together, in person, on the same stage!?!) WOW. MICHELLE's low-key, 'just women sitting around the kitchen table talking' approach was fabulous. My friend and I left the event in awe...and 5 days later when I asked her if she'd 'lost the glow' her answer was the same as mine: NO! Seeing her will remain one of the most important public/social experiences I've ever had. She is not only an icon, but a living legend who continues to inspire people across the globe. I am so proud of her and how she represents the people of the United States.

Great night of inspiration and real sister talk bw friends!

by Phenomenal Woman! on 12/20/22YouTube Theater - Inglewood

First, YouTube Theatre is new and well designed that every seat is a great seat! The entertainment beforehand with DJ D-Nice was lit! I arrived early and checking-in was pretty quick and straightforward. Then Mrs. Obama and Oprah had the most authentic and vulnerable conversation between women that all of us could relate to and appreciate. It made me want to grab her book quickly. It is now on deck.

    Extraordinary

by Bella Milan on 12/20/22YouTube Theater - Inglewood

The entire experience was amazing. The best experience I ever had. My seats were comfy. There was no bad seats at the You Tube Theater. I had seats in the suite. The suite was secluded with restaurant and a bar inside. It was to die for. Michelle was transparent and honest. She was great! I was very impressed. And, to top it off, Oprah as a moderator! It doesn’t get better than that. It was definitely a treat! For this day forward, I will be at Michelle’s event every chance I get!

    It was fine

by S on 12/18/22The Masonic - San Francisco

I thought that we were supposed to get copies of the book with ticket picked, but turns out that was not the case. Also the event started late Those things aside, I really enjoyed listening to Michelle Obama speak and the stories she and the moderator for the night shared

    Event was great!

by DB on 12/17/22YouTube Theater - Inglewood

Someone started dragging a piece of furniture during the event - a guest went to stop the disturbance. I live within walking distance of the event - PARKING was out of control (guest establishing their own lanes) - it took 45 minutes to get to a parking space - arrived in venue as event was starting!!! Totally unacceptable! I'll consider walking the next time.
