About

NY-based writer and standup comedian Michael Che is a star on the rise. Named one of Rolling Stone’s 50 Funniest People in 2013, his comedy uses humor to identify humanity in the most controversial actions.
In March 2013, Che was brought on as a writer for two installments of NBC’siconic Saturday Night Live. Che appears on Vh1’s Best Week Ever and was featured on John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show on Comedy Central, Money from Strangers on MTV and IFC's comedy game show Bunk. This year, he will be featured at many comedy festivals: Melbourne, Moontower, Bonnaroo and Edinburgh.
On November 3rd, 2012, Che made his late night television debut CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman. Also in 2012, he created, wrote and starred in the original web series “The Realest Candidate” on Broadway Video’s YouTube channel. Che was crowned New York’s Funniest Stand-Up at the 2012 New York Comedy Festival, and both Time-Out NY and Comedy Central have listed him as one of their "Comics To Watch."

This probably isn't for everyone, but he was great. He got drunk on stage, interacted with the crowd, and was hilarious. I highly recommend if you are a fan of his from Weekend Update.

    So disappointing.

    by Bret81 on 6/30/18Carolina Theatre - Durham

Michael is obviously a very smart and funny guy and there were certainly good moments in the show. Ultimately, that's what makes his performance so frustrating, he doesn't put much effort or preparation into his stand up. I haven't seen a comic set such a slow pace during a show or have so many pauses between thoughts, I had also never left a set early until this show. Towards the end he brought his dj/opener out on stage and he was obviously feeling his drink he had been sipping on throughout the night. The two were just riffing on a few topics, which reminded me of when we saw a Controlled Danger show with Chappelle and Mayer, except way more awkward and disjointed. So, we decided to head out and beat the line for opening up our yonder pouches, used to lock up everyone's phones. Definitely would pass on seeing him again, but still look forward to his wit on SNL.

    Michael Che was not funny

by stewmich on 6/30/18Carolina Theatre - Durham

Waste of my money. His DJ who thinks he is a comedian had more time than Michael and his music sucked and his attempt at comedy was an epic fail. Michael should not do stand up. He talks really low and I could not hear a lot of what he said and the jokes I could hear were just so so. Lots of drunks in the audience making all kinds of noise. For me it was a total waste of my time and money. Never again

    Lots of Laughs.

by BusterTheCat on 6/25/18Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

Micheal was funny as hell. He has a rep for getting drunk on stage, which he did, and the show sort of came to a grinding halt at the end, as he was so wasted. Would have been 5 stars except for that. He had a local warm up comic, she wasn't very funny. But he brought a guy with him from NY who was also really funny. Mike needs to slow his roll just a little.

    Michael Che was a letdown

by DCtravelers on 6/25/18Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

After his opening act spent a lot of time and energy warming up the crowd, Michael Che came out and just didn't deliver. He's a funny guy, no question, but this show seemed to lack preparation. A lot of shuffling around, looking down at the stage, low energy, long silences punctuated by mumbled one-offs. We were psyched up for this show and were let down by the performance.

    Great being the warm up

by Joel707 on 12/11/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

The show was enjoyable for the most part. It did feel like we were just a practice run, and that's okay. He still has one liners from show that I repeat to myself over in my head. He had a great opener. I wish I could remember his name.

    Disappointing and self-indulgent

by Tanuki2001 on 10/31/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Mr. Che was not funny or focused. He came across as unlikable ("My girlfriend of 8 years gave me the confidence to cheat on her." How is that funny or even acceptable behavior?) as well as rather homophobic. Most of the laughter was on the nervous side. Would not waste my money to see him again and after his comments about Colin Jost and politics, I have to re-think the SNL Weekend Update. And just so everyone knows, it appears Cobb's is now requiring cellphones be turned off and put into a signal-blocking sleeve, so if you are concerned about your home alarm or babysitter, for example, this isn't a good venue choice. (They are also selling VIP seats now - at the cost of cramming more of the regular seats into a smaller space.) Very disappointing and I'll have to consider carefully before buying more tickets.

Michael Che - a little wasted

by m0m10 on 10/29/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Michael Che was on my bucket list so when I saw he was performing in the city, I jumped on it. We caught him on the second show on Saturday of a three day set. He came on stage with a drink on hand and admitted that he was a little wasted. He had no planned set and asked us several times what did we want him to talk about. So when you think about it, it was pretty gutsy. But when you think about it, it was pretty lazy. Still all in all, it was fun and some laughs. He's definitely better on SNL. I can cross this off my bucket list. PS. There are no photos because they had us lock our phones so there are no recordings or photos.

    disappointing

by eastbayB on 10/24/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

I love michael che on SNL and also liked his standup on HBO. However, this saturday he seemed unprepared and un enthused. Did a lengthy riff on penis sizes and generally ad libbed which turns out not to be his strong suit. He isn't clever enough to just coast on his charm and charisma. Opener was pretty good. show was short in order to get us out for the late show. Venue is excellent and food is actually tasty.

    Non-Stop Laughs

by RobertM1965 on 10/24/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

It was great to see Michael Che try out a bunch of new material, rather than do a scripted show. 90% of his material was hilarious and involvement with the crowd, always unforgettable. The material seemed very appropriate for the San Francisco crowd and borderline offensive, which is what we love about Michael Che!

    Drunk Ramblings

by Toomanytomention on 10/24/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

We’re big fans of Michael Che on SNL, but this show (9:45 on a Saturday) was just, plain unprofessional and an insult to his audience. He came out and announced how drunk he was and then proceeded to prove it. He had no act. Just drunk ramblings and descriptions of how drunk he was. At times it was amusing. He’s a funny guy after all. But definitely a big disappointment.

    Waste of time

by LSA415 on 10/24/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

First let me start off by saying that I love Michael Che on SNL and was excited to see him in person. However, we should've listened to previous reviewers and saved our money. His opening act, Chris Riggins, was very funny but Michael Che didn't impress. It felt as if he didn't want to be there and was doing the show because he had to. We thought he may have been drunk - which works for some comedians but not this night. The jokes were all over the map and he didn't seem prepared. We left early with a bunch of others.

    Not funny

by tms123 on 10/24/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

I was really disappointed with Michael Che's performance. It looked like he didn't know what to do on stage. He is famous but not that famous. Hopefully he was funnier in his other shows. Cobb's was pretty good besides the one rude guy that wouldn't let us sit where we wanted and then let some other people.

Disappointed with Michael Che. He didn’t have an act, it was his last show and he put no effort into it. He was drinking, claimed he liked to drink a lot and had to bring up the opener to get through his set.

    Sluggish, disjointed

by SixofOne on 10/23/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Disappointing. Che was sluggish and disjointed. Appeared to be buzzed and was sipping tequila the whole time. 100% different energy than Netflix stand up show.

    He was drunk and unprepared

by johnseattle on 6/28/17Neptune Theatre - Seattle

10 minutes of original material padded with teasing people in the audience. Had some funny moments, but I've seen better at the local comedy clubs.

Michael Che Matters!!!!! I love you!!!!

by Geethang on 6/26/17Neptune Theatre - Seattle

This show was absolutely magic. Brilliant! Powerful! When he said that in the show he will say some things he's never said before and some things he will be never say again. Soo dope, this show had vibrations for days.
