Miami Hurricanes Football History
The Miami Hurricanes are a college football powerhouse with five national championships, nine conference titles and over 40 bowl game appearances, including six high-profile Orange Bowl wins. Founded in 1926, the Miami Hurricanes were independent for much of their existence until the team joined the Big East in 1991. Since 2004, Miami has been a part of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Hurricanes rosters have featured future Pro Football Hall of Famers such as quarterback Jim Kelly, wide receivers Michael Irvin and Andre Johnson, center Jim Otto, safety Ed Reed, linebacker Ray Lewis and defensive tackles Warren Sapp and Cortez Kennedy. Miami has also fielded two Heisman Trophy winners, quarterbacks Vinny Testaverde in 1986 and Gino Torretta in 1992. Several of Miami's most successful head coaches, including Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson, went on to coach in the NFL.
The Hurricanes have played in several of college football's greatest games. On New Year's Day 1984, Miami cemented its first of five national championships by defeating the heavily favored Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Orange Bowl. The team secured their second national title in 1987 with an undefeated season that culminated in the Hurricanes dominating the Oklahoma Sooners in the Orange Bowl. In November 1991, Miami won the “Wide Right I” game against Florida State after the Seminoles' kicker missed a game-winning field goal and advanced to the Orange Bowl, where they shut out the Cornhuskers.
The Hurricanes have in-state rivalries with the University of Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles as well as heated intra-division opposition from Virginia Tech. The feud between Miami and Florida State, which dates back to 1951, has been particularly fierce since the ’80s, as the two teams have taken turns spoiling each other's championship aspirations. During seasons when all three Florida teams play against one another, the squad with the most wins takes home the Florida Cup.

Great energy in the crowd. Lots of completed passes. Loved the Band of the Hour.
Went to the game with my buddy T to root on Miami. We nearly fainted when we sat down in our seats, 40-yard line, row 3. You could nearly reach out and touch the players on the sideline. Miami shut out Florida A&M for win number 1. The entire experience was amazing, will be hard to top.
It was a great day at BankUnited. Situated on the Coral Gables campus of University of Miami, the arena was huge but still had the feel of an intimate setting. The game was a nail-biter, the crowd was friendly and diverse, the restrooms were clean, and there were ample choices in refreshments - either inside the stadium or along the adjacent South Dixie Highway (lots of restaurants and eateries). Easily accessible from the metrorail, I brought two small kids out for a day of fun, and that's exactly what we got.
The atmosphere was great, the game was exciting and the kids had a blast!
Great game! Especially towards the end when UM tried to make a comeback but fell short. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't come through but overall it was a great outing.
Very easy process good seats lots of fun with family and friends
Had a nice time--it's a good chance to see the team and share with family at a low-cost option. Thanks for the opportunity!
The seats were great! We were on the 50 yard line on HOME side. Incredible game!
The Game was good if you are a football fan, It was hot but we are in South Florida. I would do it all over again to send the seniors out with a bang! Never feared The U would lose!!!! Go Canes
The game was amazing. The "U" took care of business like always. The "U' had swagger.
Duke's QB was the star of the game. Kept Duke in it against a better team.
awesome time at the stadium and the hurricane win was even better
It was a good game. i thought the UM was going to lose, but we came back with the INT and put the nail in the coffin. Great game great beer and nice women :)
Nothing like watching your home team win "U" know !
had a great time tail-gateing though it was warm --sat on the 50 yard line upper deck with $19 tickets ( cant believe only 25 thousnd showed up) All in all an exciting 2nd half. It feels good to go home a winner

The stadium was huge and the fans were so amazing! Very hot outside though, many seats were not taken in the stadium especially at the way top. Very professional event.
What an amazing game against the U Virginia Cavaliers! After the shut out (48-0) 2 years ago, this landslide victory was well deserved. GO CANES!
IT WAS GREAT AND I HAVE JUST ONE SUGGESTION... DO IT MORE OFTEN!!!
This was a great game for UM employee day. Exciting.
