About

The Toronto-based Metric, who've won a large audience playing the club circuit in both Canada and the U.S., released their first album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, to much acclaim from fans and critics in 2003. Backed by guitar, chirping synths and other pop-friendly instruments, singer Emily Haines provides vocals that range from soft and breathy to bold and fierce. The album's subject matter is also diverse, featuring songs about social standing ("The List"), difficult political issues ("Succexy") and other wide-ranging topics. 2005's Live It Out, the group's second album, offers further proof of Metric's impressive versatility and knack for crafting catchy pop-rock gems. Over the course of their career, Metric have brought countless venues to capacity, like Observatory (North Park) and The Fillmore (Philadelphia).

    Great Show, A Little Disappointed

by Aries1060 on 7/15/09Showbox at the Market - Seattle

I love Metric. I love all their old songs and their new songs. Emily and the band put on a great fantastic performance. However, she sounded very unintelligent when talking to the audience. Every word that she uttered would be accompanied by "um" or "like" and "you know". She didn't seem drunk, she must have been high on some drugs. Or, I could just be misunderstanding her. But I couldn't get those annoying "um, like, and you know" out of my head.

    Metric was awesome!!!

    by Roger82 on 7/15/09Granada - Lawrence

I drove from OKC to Lawrence, KS and it was well worth it. It was an incredible show! Their new album is amazing, and I think it's their best work thus far. Miss Haines has an electric presence, yet a very fun, carefree, way of interacting with the audience. I recommend seeing Metric to anyone who wants an absolutely rockin' experience.

    Emily Haines!!!

    by Melodious52 on 7/15/09Granada - Lawrence

So Metric is a good band, but live they are amazing! If you are a fan, I would definitely recommend trying to see them. Emily Haines is a goddess, and gave a very emotional performance.

    sweet! awesome! what was that?

by jeremypev on 7/15/09Granada - Lawrence

This band is awesome! I traveled from St. Louis for this show and it was great from start to second to last song. The only thing that was odd was they did a slow version of live it out, which is not typically a sow song, and the timing sounded off. I was sure they would play another song but they didn't. Everything was totally great except for that last song.

    Better Live by Far

by melisska on 7/14/09Granada - Lawrence

Metric's recorded music is good, Metric Live is an entirely different scenario, though a lot of bands sounds great once produced in a recording studio, the sound doesn't translate well in concert. Metric is fantastic in concert, I was amazed with Emily Haines energy, she was jumping and dancing around the entire time without her voice shaking up & faltering out of breath; she was smooth, sweet, high spirited, & absolutely drenching everyone with positivity.

    Metric was mindblowing!

by bladeofgrass on 7/14/09Showbox at the Market - Seattle

Metric preforming live is even greater then them on an album! Emily's energy is amazing and catchy. It was packed, hot and sweaty, but EVERYONE had a great time. They are perfect live, and it was probably one of the best concerts I've ever gone to. Money well spent. I would recommend that all their fans try and see them live.

4 1/2 stars from a really big fan.

by TheJombie on 7/14/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

This was the 2nd Metric concert I had gone to in six months. I get the feeling that Emily Haines has a difficult time with public speaking. Watching documentaries of her speaking, and then seeing her do it in front of a crowd...she sounds like she's looking for that one clever thing to say to make everyone laugh and cheer...the effort is really cute. With the recent release of Fantasies, this show was very heavy with new songs. 8 out of 13 songs to be exact. Personally, I was sad that one of those eight wasn't Blindfold. The show ended the same way I'm sure every show ends, with a slow, almost lullaby like, version of Live It Out that I absolutely love.

    Great Show

by AnnZaaaa on 7/14/09Ogden Theatre - Denver

Metric was amazing, full of energy and spunk. The only bad thing about that part of the show were the people with alcohol in the pit... in my opinion if you choose to drink you should stay out of the pit. I'd see Metric again.... definitely worth the money.

    GREAT SHOW!!

by Themegan on 7/14/09Showbox at the Market - Seattle

I expected them to be a little more mellow, like their album, but they are some rockers!! Wonderful surprise! They sounded better live than on their album! (which doesn't happen very often)

    Metric was forgettable

by Schumi on 7/14/09Granada - Lawrence

While Metric sounded great, they had very little interaction with the crowd and at one point weren't sure where they were playing. They just came out, played for about an hour and a half and left. Their opening act was horrible. The lead singer of that band made several homophobic comments and was offensive to say the least. I would not cross the street to hear him again.

Metric...best show of '09 so far!

by pdxchickens on 7/14/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

This sold-out show at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland was incredible. Singer Emily flirted, teased and toyed with the crowd, and made her (and the band's) love for the PAC NW obvious. Even though they hail from Canada, they made us feel like their hometown. The setlist was perfect, with lots of attention to new material, but throwing in enough fan-favorites to please the diehards. After the show, I was hoarse from screaming, sore from dancing, and absolutely thrilled about it.
