The Toronto-based Metric, who've won a large audience playing the club circuit in both Canada and the U.S., released their first album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, to much acclaim from fans and critics in 2003. Backed by guitar, chirping synths and other pop-friendly instruments, singer Emily Haines provides vocals that range from soft and breathy to bold and fierce. The album's subject matter is also diverse, featuring songs about social standing ("The List"), difficult political issues ("Succexy") and other wide-ranging topics. 2005's Live It Out, the group's second album, offers further proof of Metric's impressive versatility and knack for crafting catchy pop-rock gems. Over the course of their career, Metric have brought countless venues to capacity, like Observatory (North Park) and The Fillmore (Philadelphia).

these guys are great live. Emily Haines has so much energy on stage.
Its a natural progression for a band to move towards a new sound. I knew going into the show that most of the songs were going to be off of Fantasies. Her Hainess sure had her usual stage presence but too bad the music didn't come through. Be it that I am one of those fans who always likes the older stuff but I wanted to come out and support the band. Emily can put all her heart into singing the new songs but its too bad the music didn't do anything for me. My loss... I believe most of the crowd was into it. I don't blame the band for the new direction. Being in a band is also a job. And a job that doesn't pay sucks. Get more publicity, get more famous. It just means that they will be able to put out more albums. I hope they regress to the older, not so overproduced stuff. Now if Broken Social Scence could get Feist and Haines back together for a show, that would make me a very happy man.
This concert had great starting acts that complemented the band well, both with Smile Smile for the more mellow songs, and Sebastian Granger's rocking out for the more energetic Metric offerings...however, once Metric hit the stage, they blew everything else out of my mind. Emily and the band sound every bit as good live, and Emily is every bit as enthusiastic and danced around just as much as she does in all of the videos I've seen of her. And, to top it all off, she was hilarious in the inter-song banter. I went with a group of people who were nowhere near as obsessed with the band as I was, and now they're total fanatics as well, and have bought every CD they could get their hands on. Good luck with the rest of the tour, guys! This is my new favorite concert, and I've seen some greats (Muse, Ben Folds, etc.)!
Wow, wow and wow!! I've been a big Metric fan for over 5 years now and they just keep getting better and better. This show, in support of the newest albuim "Fantasies", absolutely ROCKED. Lead singer Emily Haines has always possessed a unique ability to connect with audiences on an individual level often revealing alternate strengths and vulnerabilities along the way. The end result? An authentic, deeply moving live music experience that you will seep into your pores and have you talking about for weeks after. Thank you, Metric! Can't wait to see you at Bumbershoot!
Metric (Emily Haines) really puts on a fantastic show....the lights, her moves, everything in sync....was perfect....i took my two youngest 16 and 18....they were impressed by mom's suggestion in music, and an added bonus, i believe the band stayed at the same hotel as us, the boys got a big kick out of seeing her coming in and out of the hotel.....
Metric 'shows cause' to striving musicians. They give encouragement to those 'garage bands' whose dream is to bring down the house! The energy was palatable and the venue was diversified. Their diversity is one of the main reasons I love their music!
Awesome show, they're amazing live! Highly recommended for any Metric fan!
The members of Metric are truly artists; instead of merely reverberating the same performance, I felt like they actually cared about what they were performing for the specific audience. I'm truly glad I went.
Great show and exciting selection of music in a fun smaller venue in the college town of Lawrence, KS.
I've seen Metric a couple of times and they always put on a fantastic show. They just released a new album so played most of that at their most recent show (it's called Fantasies, it's awesome). But also broke out some of my older favorites like "Monster Hospital", "Dead Disco" & others. Don't miss them!
