About

The Toronto-based Metric, who've won a large audience playing the club circuit in both Canada and the U.S., released their first album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, to much acclaim from fans and critics in 2003. Backed by guitar, chirping synths and other pop-friendly instruments, singer Emily Haines provides vocals that range from soft and breathy to bold and fierce. The album's subject matter is also diverse, featuring songs about social standing ("The List"), difficult political issues ("Succexy") and other wide-ranging topics. 2005's Live It Out, the group's second album, offers further proof of Metric's impressive versatility and knack for crafting catchy pop-rock gems. Over the course of their career, Metric have brought countless venues to capacity, like Observatory (North Park) and The Fillmore (Philadelphia).

    indie kids actually danced...

by heirofshyness on 7/19/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

I love indie kids, but there is a rather unfortunate phenomenon of us, well, not dancing. Not only not dancing, but sulking around with our rectangular plastic glasses and plaid and acting as if amazing music isn't affecting us. Not so at this Metric concert, which I think might have something to do with Emily's charisma. It was magical. The music was perfect: the voice and instrumental quality was just as good as the albums, with the added bonus of an entertaining live performance.

    Awesome performance lame people

by liveitout on 7/18/09First Avenue - Minneapolis

Metrics performance alone was amazing and have yet to be let down! I saw Metric my first time at First Ave and it was great because a lot of people didn't really know hwo they were and you could enjoy the concert without all the bull. now 5 years later the crowed was filled with psycho fans, immature people, and constant fight picking. Maybe the shows really should be 21 and up! As for Metric! Amazing and I would go see them any chance you get!

    Great Show

by Kirsch on 7/17/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

One of the best shows i've been to in a long time. Inspiring tones and great light show. Huge amount of genuine passion coming from the stage. Overall Metric was tight as can be and were positive and inspiring in so many ways. Highly recommend this band to anyone into electronically influenced rock and roll and looking for a great live show. This band delivered huge, way beyond my expectations.

Metric at the Wonder Ball Room 6-5-09

by OldmanChas on 7/16/09Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Hadn't been to a rock concert since Fleetwood Mac toured Seattle in '76. I heard Metric on the radio, liked their music and bought Fantasies when it finally hit the shelves. Bought tickets and told my wife we were seeing Metric in Portland in a few weeks. I have to say she was a pretty good sport about the whole thing. I think we were just about the oldest people there not escorting underage people. The band sat in the adjoining booth next to us in the Underwonder for a few minutes until they decided to dine elsewhere. They were quiet and polite. It was exciting to see them up close. Can't imagine what it's like to be on road like that all of the time. What can I say? Metric is great! The music is driving, original, and lots of fun to listen to. Both the Underwonder and bar in the loft area of the ball room are staffed with friendly people who mix a pretty strong drink, I must say. It was great time.

    Must See Live!!

    by musicjunkie22 on 7/16/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

If anyone is having doubts about "Fantasies", don't make any final judgments until you hear it live. Emily's energy truly ramps up the similar sounding tracks making you want to jump around with the mosh pit to "Stadium Love" and "Help, I'm Alive". This album is definitely a logical step for the band with the new popularity of electronic indie (Bloc Party, MGMT, etc) but Metric still adds their own twist. Overall, great concert, great venue, definitely go if you get the chance.

The gold, the guns and the girls.

    by HaltIAmReptar15 on 7/16/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

For my first time seeing Metric live after heavily enjoying their music for years, it was nothing less than amazing to see them finally. And they did not let me down either. The sheer fact of seeing Emily Haines would have been good enough if their performance was only sub-par, but it was so much more. Although they focused on playing tracks from their most recent album "Fantasies," I had no complaints, considering it is my favorite album of theirs to date. Opening with Twilight Galaxy was completely unexpected but it led me to love the song more than I ever did previously. Of course they played some classic fan-favorites as well, which were great to hear. They closed with a phenomenal acoustic (or as Emily described it, a bedtime lullaby) version of Live It Out. Bottom line: it was money well spent. Metric is one of the few bands who focuses on music for music's sake, not for popularity or the next pay day. Emily is a truly brilliant woman with a unique head on her shoulders and a point of view to which I always want to listen.

    Metric Lovers

by shannonlovesyou on 7/16/09Showbox at the Market - Seattle

The line around athe block (plus some) should tell you how excited fan's were to finally see Metric up close and personal. Besides the typical "headlining band making you wait 20 minutes before their stage appearance".... it was worth the wait. I would see them again!!! Even the opening bands were very entertaining!

    Metric Magic!

by Chickaboom on 7/16/09First Avenue - Minneapolis

Metric was spectacular live. I had listened to their new CD a couple times, but it didn't really have the same feel as their other CD's. But seeing them live was a whole different story. They rocked the stage with every single song and kept me moving all night long!

    High energy show!

by mojolabs on 7/16/09First Avenue - Minneapolis

The Metric show at 1st Avenue in Minneapolis was excellent! A sold-out house, and a perfect summer evening combined to make it one of the more memorable shows I've seen. Plus, Metric is definitely a band on their way up, which makes it all the sweeter to catch them at a "small" venue before they explode into arena tours.

by MegRyan on 7/15/09Showbox at the Market - Seattle

First time at this venue, and it did not let us down. We were about 15 feet from the stage, and the show was amazing. Energetic, unique, exciting performance...They rocked the **** out of that place, no doubt.

    So Good!

    by KatieG1111 on 7/15/09Trocadero - Philadelphia

I adore Metric, and I've already been to several of their concerts. This one did not disappoint. They came out for an encore, and I also enjoyed the opening acts.
