About

Metallica was formed by drummer Lars Ulrich and singer/guitarist James Hetfield in Los Angeles in 1981; since then, their astonishing career milestones include winning eight Grammys and selling over 125 million albums worldwide, including the critically-acclaimed Master of Puppets (1986), often cited as one of the most important metal albums in history. They are also one of the most popular and commercially successful touring acts in history — according to Pollstar, as of 2019 Metallica had sold over 22 million tickets and grossed $1.4 billion in touring since 1982. Metallica’s fifth studio album, Metallica (1991), famously known as The Black Album, has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and features some of the band’s biggest hits: “Nothing Else Matters,” “The Unforgiven” and “Enter Sandman.” On six consecutive genre-defining studio albums (from 1991’s Metallica through 2016’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct), Metallica has consistently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In support of their 2023 album 72 Seasons, Metallica’s M72 World Tour will see the band playing two nights in every city they visit throughout 2023-24.

Metallica great! Sofi not a great venue!

    by Vince J. on 8/29/23

Metallica was great. Sofi stadium was not a great venue for a concert. The sound wasn’t that good where I sat during Pantera and Metallica. It was especially bad during Mammoth WVH. I will not attend another concert at Sofi stadium.

Metallica hitting it hard with classics!

by 80's Metal guy on 8/28/23

An outrageous show! Played some of their best music and the crowd was on fire. I had floor tickets which made it the more fun. If/when they come through it's a MUST see show. I've been at this for 30+ years and this was my favorite!

So Fi sound not so good

While I loved the So Fi layout the sound for concerts is muffled. The music part coke through but the vocals not so much

5 Star Concert - Zero Star Parking

by Sofi Is a Joke Venue for parking on 8/28/23

The concert was amazing. How could it not be with Mammoth, Pantera, and of course Metallica! The staff was very nice and attentive and helpful and I didn't even really flinch at $18 beers. The nightmare lies with the parking. $60 to $80 per car to park at SOFI and trying to leave the event took over 90 minutes before we even moved 1 inch. Another 40 minutes before we got out of the lot after the 90 minute wait. Concert was over at 11pm. No traffic at that time of night. Our commute should have been 45 minutes. We didn't not get home until 2:05am. My recommendation is to park far off-site and walk or Uber to the stadium. Do better Sofi! Do better!

    Awesome except…

    by NG on 8/28/23

Amazing concert!!! My inly complaint is the retail side. Long lines, out of sizes, sold out…I don’t get why you can’t print more posters or make more shirts…Online doesn’t have the same items.

Metallica Put On A Great Show

by 35 Year Fan on 8/28/23

Even though the band kicked ass and played a long time, SoFi stadium sound isn’t great. I don’t think it’s really set up for great sound. That’s no fault of the band or audio engineers.

    Legends

    by Eric on 8/28/23

I was GA and very close to the stage. The amount of gratitude and happiness these guys show on stage is insurmountable. The show was amazing; the set list was killer. They still play live you can hear the mistakes on guitars and drums, and they prove why they can fill stadiums two nights in a row.

Get an assigned parking before arriving!

    by Ben on 8/28/23

Trust me! Get an assigned parking spot prior to your arrival. Finding an open parking spot is nearly impossible. Horrible experience looking for a parking spot.

Not the best Metallica concert I’ve been to.

    by Summer on 8/28/23

I LOVE Metallica…but, this venue was not right for the band. There was a strange echo that radiated throughout the stadium during most songs and I miss the days where they would play normal size stadiums where everyone is closer. In the best Metallica concerts I’ve been to, the band played their best songs and a few new ones. In this event, they played 1 or 2 songs from most albums, many songs that a lot of people did not seem to know. I felt like their biggest fan because I was standing the whole time singing and screaming, while most of my section sat the whole time and nodded their heads without lip syncing the words, probably because they did not know them, it was weird. Metallica has gained a reputation for caring more about touring Europe than the states…in my opinion. They used to go to more US cities and I could actually make it without driving 3 hours, like I did this time. Come to San Diego, we are a big city and we have venues that are better suited for the acoustics of your band. Play the best songs, the ones that everyone wants to hear. We are driving 3+ hours to see you, paying hundreds of dollars for tickets, around a hundred dollars just to park, and we don’t want to sit and listen to a guitar riff that you guys made up last week. The other 2 Metallica concerts I’ve been to, 20 years ago, are still the best 2 concerts I have ever been to and I have seen every great band since the 90’s. I don’t know why it went the way it did, I’m just disappointed to say the least.

    Spectacular Metallica

    by Emmie-Suz on 8/28/23

Metallica’s M:72 concert was spectacular! Great opening bands, great energy, and never once a repeated song. Metallica played old and new songs, and finished both nights with one of their most popular songs. Truly and amazing experience!
