About

Metallica was formed by drummer Lars Ulrich and singer/guitarist James Hetfield in Los Angeles in 1981; since then, their astonishing career milestones include winning eight Grammys and selling over 125 million albums worldwide, including the critically-acclaimed Master of Puppets (1986), often cited as one of the most important metal albums in history. They are also one of the most popular and commercially successful touring acts in history — according to Pollstar, as of 2019 Metallica had sold over 22 million tickets and grossed $1.4 billion in touring since 1982. Metallica’s fifth studio album, Metallica (1991), famously known as The Black Album, has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and features some of the band’s biggest hits: “Nothing Else Matters,” “The Unforgiven” and “Enter Sandman.” On six consecutive genre-defining studio albums (from 1991’s Metallica through 2016’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct), Metallica has consistently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In support of their 2023 album 72 Seasons, Metallica’s M72 World Tour will see the band playing two nights in every city they visit throughout 2023-24.

Metallica Killed it at the Rose Bowl

by charruadtla on 8/3/17Rose Bowl - Pasadena

Metallica was amazing. They sounded amazing, brought a ton of energy, and had a great stage/light show. If you get a chance to see them DO IT! I only caught the end of Avenge Sevenfold.....was never really a fan but they were good and pumped up too which I appreciated. This show was all about the headliner however and they BROUGHT IT. Played ab bunch of classics and peppered in a few new jams which kept the packed crowd entertained. Wow, just WOW.

    Loud as promised

by Metallicans on 8/3/17Rose Bowl - Pasadena

Awesome show. Loud! The way it's supposed to be. Very impressive how these guys can still rock the way they do. A mixture in the crowd of young and old. No sitting in your seat once the music pounds your chest. Unforgettable!!

Band performed well, venue did not

by chrisINtheOC on 8/2/17Rose Bowl - Pasadena

Ushers did a bad job keeping the aisles clear of people who wanted to see the show from the steps and not from their seats. Had to push a lot of people to the side to get to where we needed to go and then the people would get upset I was bumping into them, when it was them who were in the way. All this happening when the ushers were all five and ten feet away not bothering on keeping the flow of traffic moving. The same staff who got the cars parked quickly and orderly should have shown the staff inside how to do the same with the people. $40 for parking seemed to be really steep for parking in the farthest lot in the Rose Bowl gold course parking. A fifteen minute walk to your car and waiting another 15-20 minutes to leave the lot shouldn't cost a person $40.

    Metallica simply killed it!!!!

by Anonymous on 8/2/17Rose Bowl - Pasadena

From my viewpoint of where I was sitting at, I had a pretty good close view of the stage. Gojira, Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica put together a phenomenal show.

    Speechless

    by Tin816 on 8/2/17Rose Bowl - Pasadena

Metallica's performance left me speechless. One of the best I'd been to hands down. But, personally, the thing that set them apart from all the others is how kind and warm they are to their fans. I love them even more now.

    AMAZING!!!

by Michellemybel on 8/2/17Rose Bowl - Pasadena

They were amazing!!! Better than the first time I saw them 18 years ago! Definitely recommend seeing them. My only complaint would be the venue. I had forgotten how crazy it is to get in and out of the Rose Bowl...but it was worth every minute!

    Metallica rocks hard-core

by curbacyde on 8/2/17Rose Bowl - Pasadena

Metallica rocks hard-core and that's the bottom line they rushed him to the stage and just took control of the show with absolute professional quality these guys are amazing I will go to their shows whenever they come to town from this moment forward. These guys shredded and the special effects were amazing I would have to say this is the best show that I have attended. If you have never been to a Metallica she'll get to one.
