Wasn't sure what to expect, but very pleasantly surprised! Not much of a story, but the music, dancing, and costumes were simpy amazing. The 2 and 1/2 hours flew by and the crowd was begging for more. Highly recommended!

Amazing music and amazing costumes! What an up beat and entertaining event. I reccommend it to anyone who wants to leave the theater with a smile on their face. Fantastic!
I only rated this 4 stars because I felt the story was weak - much weaker than a regular musical. But the talented cast, gorgeous choreography and incredible costumes more than makes up for any weaknesses. The show was the exact right length (show started at 7:30, there was one intermission, and we got back to our car at about 9:55).
Definetely a unique experience that anyone intereted in Bollywood would love!
Color, movement, energy, comedy, drama, and dance. From the first moment, Merchants of Bollywood had my rapt attention and held it to the very last. A real natural high.
If the opportunity were to arise, I would take other family members to see this show! It will result in me becoming more interested in the phenomenon that is Bollywood. The cultural and religiousaspects, the costumes, the superb quality of dancing, and the infusion of humor were well-balanced.
DID NOT ENJOY IT. I FOUND IT TEDIOUS AND VERY REPETITIVE AND AMATEURISH SEVERAL PEOPLE LEFT EARLY AS DID WE.

jewels, beautiful costumes, tons of color and great music. i was dancing in my seat and loved watching the tradition of indian dance with an upbeat and energetic tempo. whenever the dancers weren't dancing, however, the dialogue was predictable. nevertheless, this musical is one not be missed!
it was awesome to see a show with lots of young talented artists and energy. i engoyed the whole show,it was just like the bombay dreams.cant wait to see another amazing perpoermance, or to have in to see at another venew.
Merchants of Bollywood is colorful, high energy, and thoroughly entertaining. The dancers are amazing and the costumes are gorgeous. It's hard to single out one dance - they were all fantastic. We invited another couple to join us, and they loved it! They want their family members to come and see it - I hope this show will return. Two performances is not enough!

The costume designs and overall dance numbers were well performed. However, this was advertised as a musical, which perplexed me after watching this. A musical, as I have witnessed, should incorporate the storyline/plot with the musical numbers. On the contrary, the musical acts were very disconnected from the story line. In fact, the story line or plot was very weak. It seemed as though the story line was just inserted or forced to produce a show focusing on various bollywood hit songs and dance routines from the 50's/60's to current date. The musical was suppose to explain how the Merchant family influenced the evolution of bollywood over the past 40 or 50 years; however, I didn' t see this clearly expressed in the show. If you are looking to see something different. i.e. indian songs/dances and costume designs, this is a good show for that. However, if you are looking to see a musical, that is a show that explains the evolution of the bollywood film industry through the musical productions, I don't think this production accomplishes that.
An obviously westernized portrayal of Bollywood music and dance numbers with a fairly weak storyline. The music is replayed from popular Bollywood films and is not original. Many of the dance moves are directly from the films as well (as would be expected as the choreographer the story is about is based on reality). The dancing, though, was spot-on and with great intensity and energy. I was kind of put-off by the dancers trying too hard to interact with the crowd rather than playing their roles. Why did they keep making faces to try to act silly? It just took away from the already weak storyline.
Thought this was very well done. Felt like I was watching a really good bollywood movie, only it was in person, so much better!
Dancers were very entertaining; nice mix of traditional Indian dance with a modern flair; surprisingly; however dancers looked fairly flabby except for the two leads.
I'm in aaahhhh!!!! It was awesome!!!! I wish it comes back to Chicago again because I want my whole family to get to see it!!!!
We saw 'Merchants of Bollywood on Saturday, Oct. 2, in Chicago. A stellar show, the dancing and choroegraphy was incredible, not to mention the costumes and sets, simple but perfect. A wonderful dance trip through the history of Bollywood film choreography through the decades but also refreshingly tongue in cheek. A mixing of styles from the traditional to the disco and club influence which reflected the styles of the different periods, seen through the eyes of a Bollywood choreographer. A fantastic spectacle and I can't recommend this enough.
