About

Melissa Etheridge in Concert

For more than three decades, Melissa Etheridge has been one of folk-rock's most resonant voices, offering comfort and solace to listeners while also serving as a defiant beacon of hope. The Kansas-born Etheridge initially studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, dropping out to pursue her dreams while playing sets in Southern California's lesbian bars. Etheridge's 1988 self-titled debut—which she recorded in four days—went double-platinum and was hailed widely by critics for its stripped-down take on roots rock, which recalled fellow Midwesterner John Cougar Mellencamp while also channeling the passion of Janis Joplin. Its blues-tinged single "Bring Me Some Water" was nominated for the Best Female Rock Vocal Performance Grammy, one of 15 nominations she's received over the course of her career.

One of her two wins was in honor of "Come to My Window," a single from her fourth album ‘Yes I Am’ that was released after she came out of the closet in 1993. That jangly anthem for self-acceptance, and its stunning video starring Juliette Lewis, remains one of the 1990s' most beloved singles; in 2001 when she performed it at The Concert For New York City the audience happily filled in after a mic glitch left her inaudible, while in 2017 she celebrated Independence Day with a stirring performance fronting the famed orchestra The Boston Pops.

Etheridge's career has been a testament to tenacity and honesty, with her rich, raspy voice making her forthright lyrics land even more powerfully. The bluesy, sultry "Window" follow-up "I'm the Only One" peaked at No. 8 on the Hot 100; her 2006 song "I Need to Wake Up," which accompanied the environmentally conscious film ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ became the first song from a documentary to win the Best Original Song Oscar, and in 2014 she launched ME Records, her own record label, through which she's released projects like her Stax Records salute ‘MEmphis Rock and Soul.’ On her forthcoming tour of the U.S. and Europe, Etheridge is celebrating the 25th anniversary of ‘Yes I Am’—and a career defined by a willingness to say "yes" to her artistic and personal desires.

    Very talented, entertaining.

by DiegoG on 4/8/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

Fun songs, a lot of the old hits, some storytelling. The Venue: Fred Kavli Theatre, Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks. Comfortable seats, lots of space between rows. Bar selection was nice but lines were just too long, even during the show.

Had an amazing time at the Melissa Etheridge concert. Her voice is amazing, always loved her music, and her open and honest relationship with her audience is tremendous. An added bonus is the venue. It was my first time there and I will definitely be back.

    Terrible venue

by Jaazee on 3/29/24KAISER PERMANENTE ARENA - Santa Cruz

To start off, the tickets I bought did not say anything about obstructed view! They were front row, left of center stage with the big old roof support blocking view! The stage didn’t go across the entire front row so we were more on the side of stage! There was a big old fence blocking off access to stage where they hung banners that helped block view! Needless to say I will never attend another show there!

    Worst place for a concert!

by Jaazee on 3/28/24KAISER PERMANENTE ARENA - Santa Cruz

The show was pretty good! She had a new song that I personally thought was horrible! The tickets I purchased were terrible for front row tickets! There was a tower holding the tent up that blocked our view! I don’t see myself going to any more events at the Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz!

Loved her energy and guitar play but sound was terrible

by Marti on 3/24/24KAISER PERMANENTE ARENA - Santa Cruz

I don't think ill go to hear music at this venue again...thought the sound was awful, had good seats, front right. Maybe the sound was better in the center or center back, don't know. Melissa was great, very high energy n engaging.

With a powerful voice and major chops on lead guitar, Melissa gave a magnificent performance. The event center at the Graton Resort and Casino was excellent with plenty of room for dancing and great sound.

    Just what I needed

by Tony C. on 3/18/24The Event at Graton Resort & Casino - Rohnert Park

One of the best shows I’ve ever seen, and it came at a time when I really needed it. After a rough and stressful couple of weeks, it helped me get through it. Not to mention the amazing music and the performance. Thank you, Melissa!

Artist was outstanding, the venue was not.

by Marcy on 3/18/24KAISER PERMANENTE ARENA - Santa Cruz

Melissa was great! The venue was the issue. We had good seats in the 10th row on floor. However, the seats were very close together and you felt packed in. The sound was too loud. My husband and I had to put Kleenex in our ears.

by Janet on 3/18/24The Event at Graton Resort & Casino - Rohnert Park

Her performance was amazing just as it was when I saw her in 2008? Somewhere around there in Sacramento. Sings with the same passion as she always has. Amazing!

    She did not disappoint!

by Mary on 3/18/24The Event at Graton Resort & Casino - Rohnert Park

Melissa sang and played with so many different guitars, and the drums, for 1 1/2 hours. Her voice continues to be very powerful. I enjoyed her talking to us about her mother who inspired her to write a beautiful song. The song made me tear up. I am so glad to have been able to attend her show. She was awesome!!!

    Melissa's Still Got It!

by De on 3/18/24The Event at Graton Resort & Casino - Rohnert Park

What a fun-filled evening with lots of opportunities to sing along to our favorites. I'm thrilled to say that Melissa and band were just as talented, dynamic and professional as ever before (I've seen her perform live many times in the past). You know when you've got the entire auditorium up dancing, singing and hugging each other that this idea of age is just a silly number! At least so far. Fabulous!
