MEAN GIRLS is a hilarious new musical from an award-winning creative team, including director CASEY NICHOLAW (Aladdin, The Book of Mormon), composer JEFF RICHMOND ("30 Rock," "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), lyricist NELL BENJAMIN (Legally Blonde) and book writer TINA FEY ("30 Rock," Bossypants). Vogue cheers, "MEAN GIRLS is HILARIOUS! The cast is sensational - expert comedians with fierce voices and acting chops to match." I purchased tickets to Mean Girls with the intent of taking my tween-aged daughter though, on recommendation of a friend who had just seen the show, I opted to bring a female friend instead...and was very, very happy that I did. This is a highly entertaining, witty, irreverent interpretation of the film version with the same name - we were TRULY entertained by the entire cast, a true ensemble with numerous standout performances / songs. We both absolutely LOVED it! That said, and I cannot stress this enough, don't let the "Girls" and the Pink fool you - this is NOT a show for girls. There are numerous explicit sexual references, both verbally delivered by the actors and in writing on the stage backdrop, which are not suited for tween and younger viewers. My daughter loves Broadway shows - but this one is definitely not appropriate for her tween age group!
Flew in from L.A to see the original cast of Mean Girls on Broadway. So smart, hilarious & relevant. The stellar cast can sing! Seriously, get your tickets now. It's a massive deal!
Amazing production. Very talented cast from actors, set designs, lighting, crew and amazing orchestra! Can’t wait to see again. Tina Fey thank you for this great show to open up teenage drama. Love to see more of these stories come to stage.
It was a very entertaining show. Cleaver music, very well cast, and just an all around fun evening at the theater.
Great choreo and amazing performances help lift this show past "just ok". The book is extremely faithful to the film, the score is 95% forgettable. The actors playing the Plastics are phenomenal, as are those playing Janice and Damian, who actually ground the show as narrators (and also steal the show with their great performances). The choreo is fun and energetic. Go for the cheapest seats you can get. It will be in the mezzanine, but it's ok up there.
My entire group of family and friends loved the show! Great wit thanks to Tina Fey! Wonderful set design and dancing! We were all so happy to see it!
I think female teens will enjoy the show but it falls flat with adults. Tina Fey’s one liners are sharp & witty but the songs are not memorable. Set designs are cheap (There’s really not all that much to begin with) & forgetable & choreography leaves much to be desired. BUT Taylor Louderman & Kate Rockwell are absolute PERFECTION! Every minute they are on stage is a delight! I’d go just to watch those two.
I am not a "Play" guy, especially musicals. My wife knows that so I get extra "points" when I take her to one. This year I took her to New York for the first time and we saw Mean Girls. There was not a moment that I wished it was over. The performances were amazing. It was impossible not to get caught up in the story. I don't know that I will be choosing plays over Marvel movies anytime soon, but I really enjoyed this one!
The comic brilliance of Tina Fey is on display each and every performance at the August Wilson Theater, executed by a cast full of energy and excitement (and some beautiful voices and serious dancers). I loved all the characters and the chorus is a busy group, infusing the show with so much energy and laughter. The staging is quite clever, from the projections to the way they are able to rotate between classes and lunchroom seating arrangements. I also loved the many small details that are all over this show. My only complaint would be the score- no memorable songs- they are all beautifully sung. If you are a fan of the movie, you definitely need to go, as all your favorite lines are here. Yet, I think Fey made this version better than the movie, as there is more time to flush out why bullying takes place and its consequences in society (and how social media is part of this). I highly recommend the show. You will laugh a lot!
The show was enjoyable and fun! Performance was engaging.
Mean Girls is a big, splashy fun extravaganza, but it also holds on to everything that made the movie have a special place in my heart. The humor, pathos and social commentary are all here, with the added benefit of some incredible musical performances and an updated script. The cast is so talented, and the male chorus members are the real surprise worker bees in the show. I can't wait for the cast album to be released. I will definitely be seeing Mean Girls again!
Mean Girls has been modified for modern day, referencing social media. The music is great. Karen is the highlight of the show.
Songs were catchy and jokes were funny. It exceeded my expectations and accomplished what it set out to do.
Funny, Music and performers were just simply superb
Mean girls was fantastic!! The cast was incredible. The show was hysterical and loved the updates they included to reflect the current year.
fun energetic funny go see it you dont need to be a fan of the movie
Truly enjoyable evening watching Mean Girls. The set was exciting, play was clever and funny. Talent perfect- beautiful vocals and great energy. Highly recommend!
The musIc was so good!! And the dancing was incredible! The actors are perfect for their parts ! Especially Ben cook!!!!!
Tina Fey is one of the best comic writers today. She can bring a strong message telling a funny story. The musical was relevant to kids in high school today. Great story line, good acting with strong beautiful voices. Enjoyed the show very much!
