Saw Matthew Sweet on April 4th in Madison, WI at The High Noon Saloon. Matthew has quite an extensive library of music to perform from, and I think he picked out a great set. Sure, I would have loved to hear "Until You Break"or "So Far", but I quickly forgot all about that when he cycled through "I Wanted To Tell You", "We're The Same"and "Time Capsule."The encore of "Girlfriend"and "Sick of Myself"was a great cap to the evening. Bravo Mr. Sweet (and band)!
The opening guy was horrible and sucked the energy out. He played way too long. We left after Sweets second song because we were tired. About 1/3 of the crowd already left before us, making it easy to get out of the parking lot with all the open spaces. But, Debbi Peterson was awesome and I was glad I got to see a Bangal.
Sounded great and it was obvious everyone was having a great time!
Not enough older music from the musician. The newer music was ok but unfamiliar. I really went the the classic 90s/2000s music.
This was my first time seeing Sweet and it was a great, somewhat laid back show. He had a lot of his long-time bandmates with him along with Debbi Peterson from The Bangles on drums (!) Peterson really plays deep the pocket and the entire set just felt great as a result. Sweets voice was in fine form, sounding just as good as he did at the start of his career. My only reservation, and it's really negligible, is that the band appeared slightly under-rehearsed. This may have been the first show of the tour, but many of the songs had ragged endings, and the band knew it. Again, that's not a gripe. It just gave the audience more of an 'in your living room' kind of performance. Definitely do not miss this brief tour if you have the chance to go!
First time seeing Matthew Sweet. Him and his band sounded amazing. No crazy light show or anything needed. Perfect.
For his first full-band concert in over 5 years, Matthew Sweet delivered. Aided by an excellent 4-piece backing band, including The Bangles Debbi Peterson on drums, Matthew was in good voice and demeanor and gave the audience a nice mix of hits and deep cuts. Kudos to Matthew for making it back to the stage after his recent health issues. He was missed, but his performance certainly didn't. Good for him.
I am a teenage female...so I loved it. He played all my faves.
I'm really not sure why Matthew Sweet went on before Dream Syndicate, but it let most of the crowd go home early, so I'm not complaining. This was my first show at The Neptune, so I was a little disappointed that the acoustics are not as good as at The Moore, or The Paramount. The set contained a mix of old and new, showing that despite the years, his voice is just as sweet as always. (pun intended) Setlist: Time Capsule, Byrdgirl, Pretty Please, Winona, Divine Intervention, Someone To Pull The Trigger, We're The Same, (?), Nothing Lasts, I Belong To You, Girlfriend, I've Been Waiting, Sick Of Myself, The Ocean In-Between, Evangeline
Love Matthew Sweet and fantastic venue. He admitted early on he was having a problem with his voice and boy was he! He should have been in bed. Hope to see him again when he is feeling better :)
I love Mathew Sweet but he just can’t sing the songs anymore. I will always listen to his music and I will be grateful that he was an artist I ha e fun memories with his music in the background but I won’t be going to his events again
Matthew Sweet played new songs as well as songs off of 100% fun and Girlfriend
Great artist. Great venue. Matthew's harmonies were on point. The band was tight. I recommend this tour to anyone who loves good music.
He had a great setlist of almost all the old songs you expect to hear and the better songs from his later albums. His new album is almost as good as Girlfriend, 100% Fun, and Altered Beast. I definitely will go see him again. The Brighton Music Hall was perfect for a show like this.
He sounded great but he only played for an hour and a half.
Played small venue which was extra special. Wish it could have been longer.
Matthew & his band was excellent. Played all the classics & some of the new - all of it was great.
Great venue and Matthew Sweet sounded great. His guitarist was stellar.
This Matthew Sweet show was great, I'll definitely go again when I get a chance. The venue was a nice break from the smashed-in stand up clubs. They played a lot of great songs, like Waiting, Girlfriend, Sick of Myself...I could've gone for more. I personally would like to hear more from Blue Sky on Mars and In Reverse, I don't think there were any songs from those albums. The one they seemed to play from the most was Altered Beast. This show was a lot of fun and the people were great!
