About

Matt Maeson on Tour

Matt Maeson's introduction to the stage was far from ordinary. The singer/songwriter toured with his parents, playing Christian heavy metal and performing at prisons across the U.S. While he would stray far from his roots for his own solo career, that experience helped shape his high-powered performance style. After his first U.S. headlining tour, Maeson landed coveted slots at festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. In 2019, he continued to spend most of his days on the road, for the Bank on the Funeral Tour and The Day You Departed Tour, both in support of his debut album. That same year, he even got a chance to sing on stage with one of his favorite artists, Lana Del Rey.

Matt Maeson in Concert

Matt Maeson's bluesy, rock-infused alt-folk manages to sound big, bold and intimate all at once, as he mixes raw folk songwriting with anthemic, pop-inspired production. It's a far cry from the music he played growing up in Virginia. Maeson's parents played in Christian metal bands, and he took up drums and guitar as a child to join them on tours around the country, performing in maximum-security prisons and at biker rallies. Through it all, his parents forbade him to listen to rock music, but that didn't keep him out of trouble. As a young adult, he struggled with drugs and even landed in jail, but soon found a sense of salvation in creating his own music. In 2015, he began posting songs to SoundCloud, which caught the attention of a representative at Neon Gold Records. The label quickly signed him, and he released his debut single "Cringe," which eventually topped the U.S. Alternative Songs chart. He took to the road for his first headlining tour around the U.S., bringing venues like Irving Plaza and Observatory North Park to capacity, while he worked on songs for his debut EP, Who Killed Matt Maeson? The following year, he dropped a second EP, The Hearse. Finally, in 2019, Maeson unveiled his debut full-length album, Bank on the Funeral, a dynamic set that combines empowering rock anthems with poignant folk ballads.

I didn’t think I could appreciate his music this much.

    by Jillian on 7/23/23

I've been listening to Matt Maeson for 5 years now and have loved his music since. But after seeing him live with only his guitar/piano and voice, somehow I love his music even more. I definitely recommend seeing him live!

    BEST NIGHT EVER

    by Kelsibeth92 on 7/19/23

I have never been to a more soulful, powerful performance. Even the audience was trying to get itself to calm down and hush so we could hear every bit. Sorry to the people around me cause I was singing like I had my ear buds in cleaning house!

    Matt Maeson is spectacular

    by Jake on 7/16/23

Matt Maeson is one of my all-time favorite artists and lyricists, and I've been waiting for him to tour a city close enough for me to attend a show with my spouse. The New Orleans House of Blues is a solid venue that hosts some excellent artists, so no complaints there. My spouse prefers less crowded areas, so we went to the second floor - but were still able to hear and see just fine. Matt Maeson came on after his opening act (who did a good job of warming up the crowd) - and let me tell you - he sounds just as good live as he does in his albums. Super consistent vocally, and even with it being a solo show, his guitarwork was on point. I love hearing artists give background for their music during the live performance, and it was a joy to hear him share where the some of the songs came from. Altogether, spectacular show.

    ** EUPHORIC **

    by Lynn on 7/15/23

Ever since I saw Brand New in concert (back in the early 2000s) no concert has came close to the euphoria I felt in that moment. Mr.Maeson gave me that feeling once again. He made the entire experience very personal, you could feel the emotions pouring out in his voice as if he was singing the song for the first time, all around amazing.

    Great show, awful venue

    by Kate on 7/11/23

Such an amazing person to see in concert, would have loved every minute if it wasn’t for the venue. It was way over booked and there was no room.

    Awesome

    by Alex on 7/10/23

The performance was awesome. Matt is super sympathetic and interacted with the audience. The only comment I had was related to standing performance. I have a back problem and could not stand the pain and left earlier. Other than that, 5 stars.

    The Tabernacle sucks

Pitiful. The air flow was absolutely awful and it was so hot on the floor. For such a esteemed establishment i was absolutely let down.

    Great concert, awful venue.

by Aphro on 6/17/23Tabernacle - Atlanta

Matt Maeson was amazing as always. The show was ruined by people who were too drunk basically. We were puked on, had a drink thrown in our direction, (not at us but we caught the crossfire) and had staff standing in the emergency exits beside us having EXTREMELY loud conversations to the point we couldn’t enjoy the show or conversation the artist was having. When we turned around to see who it was they gave us awful looks and told us to “worry about the show”. The bartenders continued to serve drinks to people who were clearly past their limit. I will not be back to the tabernacle for anything. Side note: Maybe have bathrooms on all levels (since there’s 3/4) for accessibility needs.
