About

Matt Maeson on Tour

Matt Maeson's introduction to the stage was far from ordinary. The singer/songwriter toured with his parents, playing Christian heavy metal and performing at prisons across the U.S. While he would stray far from his roots for his own solo career, that experience helped shape his high-powered performance style. After his first U.S. headlining tour, Maeson landed coveted slots at festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. In 2019, he continued to spend most of his days on the road, for the Bank on the Funeral Tour and The Day You Departed Tour, both in support of his debut album. That same year, he even got a chance to sing on stage with one of his favorite artists, Lana Del Rey.

Matt Maeson in Concert

Matt Maeson's bluesy, rock-infused alt-folk manages to sound big, bold and intimate all at once, as he mixes raw folk songwriting with anthemic, pop-inspired production. It's a far cry from the music he played growing up in Virginia. Maeson's parents played in Christian metal bands, and he took up drums and guitar as a child to join them on tours around the country, performing in maximum-security prisons and at biker rallies. Through it all, his parents forbade him to listen to rock music, but that didn't keep him out of trouble. As a young adult, he struggled with drugs and even landed in jail, but soon found a sense of salvation in creating his own music. In 2015, he began posting songs to SoundCloud, which caught the attention of a representative at Neon Gold Records. The label quickly signed him, and he released his debut single "Cringe," which eventually topped the U.S. Alternative Songs chart. He took to the road for his first headlining tour around the U.S., bringing venues like Irving Plaza and Observatory North Park to capacity, while he worked on songs for his debut EP, Who Killed Matt Maeson? The following year, he dropped a second EP, The Hearse. Finally, in 2019, Maeson unveiled his debut full-length album, Bank on the Funeral, a dynamic set that combines empowering rock anthems with poignant folk ballads.

    Great concert, awful venue.

by Aphro on 6/17/23Tabernacle - Atlanta

Matt Maeson was amazing as always. The show was ruined by people who were too drunk basically. We were puked on, had a drink thrown in our direction, (not at us but we caught the crossfire) and had staff standing in the emergency exits beside us having EXTREMELY loud conversations to the point we couldn’t enjoy the show or conversation the artist was having. When we turned around to see who it was they gave us awful looks and told us to “worry about the show”. The bartenders continued to serve drinks to people who were clearly past their limit. I will not be back to the tabernacle for anything. Side note: Maybe have bathrooms on all levels (since there’s 3/4) for accessibility needs.

    Stripped Down Set

by Charles Meeker on 6/16/23Tabernacle - Atlanta

Fantastic acoustic show by Matt. He was able to take time between songs and tell stories about what inspired them. Commended the stage with just an instrument and his voice and had the whole crowd in awe

    Incredible performance and great venue

by Heidi on 6/13/23Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Matt's opening guy was good, Mike Ferrari and Matt Maeson exceeded what I already thought was going to be a great performance! His energy and vocals as this great solo artist and in this small personalized theater gave me a whole new perspective on his music even though I loved him before I got there!

    Awesome show

by Kelly on 6/13/23Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

He is an incredible artist and I was surprised that it was just him and his guitar! The setting was set up to be intimate with storytelling. However, I think they must have sold all their tickets because it was so hot in the theater it was hard to breathe even after they opened up the doors.

    Top tier

by Leo on 6/10/23The Ritz - Raleigh

This was my first concert and it was awesome. Matt is my fav artist of all time and he killed it. I was impressed that he performed by himself for an hour and half. His voice, talent, and stage presence were all incredible. No complaints about the venue either. 10/10 would go again.

    Seriously amazing

by Sav on 6/6/23The Ritz - Raleigh

Matt Maeson.. where do I even start? Matt interacts with the crowd like no other artist, he sounds AMAZING (goosebumps the entire time) and makes the concert feel so intimate and personal even if there’s hundreds of people present. I haven’t been to a concert this amazing in years. If you’re contemplating seeing Matt but are still on the fence, DO IT.

    Passionate and Talented

by AJB on 6/6/23The Ritz - Raleigh

Matt was incredible. I only recently discovered him by browsing artists coming locally and for affordable tickets. His newest album pulls you in and some older songs are great. The crowd knew his songs and he had great stage presence for a one man acoustic show. Loved his storytelling before some songs and the passion he brought in the lyrics and songs is what makes him great! My only complaint is he played an hour and 20 minutes. Not sure if this is an artist decision, venue, tour manager, Ticketmaster or some other reason, but as a fan and paying customer I appreciate a longer performance. That is too short to be done about 10:30pm, just saying. Opening band (actually one guy) All Get Out was great too!

    He’s a peach

by DumpHim on 6/6/23The Ritz - Raleigh

Matt Maeson is pure raw talent. He doesn’t need any bells or whistles to impress. There’s a reason that everyone in the audience knew all the words to every song and not just what’s on the radio. It was amazing to be in such a wholesome group of misfits.

Matt did a solo acoustic show and didn't disappoint. Wife only heard a few of his songs before we went and wasn't too excited about going but left the show a huge fan!!

Matt Maeson thanks for singing your heart out!

by ABee on 6/2/23Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

The venue was nice and intimate. The bars were great too, but Matt and Brennan (yes, first name basis here) were amazing.
