    Matilda was disappointing

by BroadwayMusicalFanFromNYC on 5/3/17Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

The players were hard to understand. The level of verbal child abuse became extremely uncomfortable. Didn't hold my attention. My two older children (22 and 26), both of whom love musicals like I do, were also disappointed.

    Matilda

by Lance29 on 5/3/17Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

I think the show was amazing it had plenty of funny moments even though the first part of it felt slow. Me and my wife did feel bad for a elderly couple that was with us in our box seats. They asked us if we could understand what the actors and actresses were saying. During the intermission I figured I'd see if what they were saying was accurate but unfortunately the older couple never came back they looked frustrated. The characters seemed to use a abnormally high pitched voice and when it's projected into the theater with its acoustics and speakers it almost is always lost. We enjoyed the second half like I said the first half was whatever.

    Excellent ensemble cast

by Annedore on 5/2/17Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Great show and worth taking your children.only drawback at Broward Performing Arts Center coming from Miami was that A1A was traffic stopped and I had to turnaround and go to I 95, reduced to three lanes form Hallandale Beach and exit ramp on Broward Blvd, reduced to one lane. I left 1 1/2 hours ahead and it took two hours to make it to the theater. I missed the opening of the play which was really sad. Discourages one from attending performances at that theater.

    Matilda was fun and engaging

by SusanLeigh123 on 4/30/17Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

I took my mother and two daughters to Matilda on Thursday night. The show was really visually fun and entertaining. I thought, at times, it was difficult to understand what they were saying and singing. I'm not sure if this was due to the acoustics or the fast paced lyrics. The last song of Revolting Children was really tough to understand. The children were really great, however, and we overall enjoyed the show.

    matilda awful

by siht on 4/30/17Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

boring, thin plot line, screeching singing voices, dark in content, dark in costumes, dark in sets. Just bad, depressing and not worth the money nor the time. YUCK!

by FamRossy on 4/28/17Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

We were all left so happy with this show. Last year my family saw Matilda in NY. And wanted to see it again with the little ones. Now i have twin 7 year olds saying they want to be Matilda and keep singing all the songs non stop. Excellent cast.

    Going thru the motions

by gr8wit on 4/28/17Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Maybe I just caught the cast on a bad night, but they seem to just phone in the performances... clearly the kids are very talented... but the entire cast has to deliver the goods every night... that’s what Broadway stars do!

    Great performance!

by DesertDwellerBornbyFire on 4/5/17Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

This Matilda performance was truly a treat to watch. The acting was outstanding. Despite sitting in the highest balcony, I could understand everything that was said and sung. The diction and emotion were spot on. I was transported into the story from the start.

    Good show, very enjoyable.

by Thesmokester on 4/5/17Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I took my mother to the show for her 80th birthday and she enjoyed the show very much. I too, thought the show was good, but a little tough to understand some of the speaking parts at times. I would recommend to families.

    Fun show!

    by TrishaK1 on 4/4/17Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

We didn't know anything about this show prior to attending. We were not familiar with the book or movie. We went because our son who lives in NYC recommended it. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed what we imagined was a children's show. It was a fun show for all ages. We were most impressed with the choreography. Some of the best we've ever seen, very creative. The sets, costumes and lighting were also extremely impressive. The acting was also top notch, although the children were sometimes difficult to understand. They could use some additional training in diction. Diction is so important when using microphones. We probably missed about 1/3 of the dialog of the lead child actress, playing Matilda. Still, we were able to follow the story line, and the actress playing Matilda gave an endearing performance. Overall, it was quite enjoyable.

    Eh

    by sammers12 on 4/4/17Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

As a fan of both the book and the movie (for different reasons, of course), I was so looking forward to this musical. But...it didn't seem to capture the essence of either. Very little about Matilda's magic, little focus on the friendship between Matilda and Miss Honey, and worst of all...less Trunchbull! It was all fluff. The first act dragged, and I really didn't enjoy the show until halfway through the second act. And dear god...clocking in at more than 2 and half hours...way WAY too long. The musical numbers were fine, I just didn't feel like they added much in the way of story telling. They could have been written better to move the story along. The casting was excellent though
