MAT KEARNEY IN CONCERT:

Contemporary Christian rocker Mat Kearney has enthralled fans of inspirational and secular music alike with his unique blend of rock, pop, and hip hop. Kearney's emotional tunes are regularly featured on TV dramas like Grey's Anatomy and Kyle XY, and it's easy to see why -- his live performances reveal him to be a deeply spiritual soul whose heart-wrenching songs hold universal appeal. Whether he's crooning along to the acoustic strumming of "Breathe In Breathe Out" or kicking things up a notch with the hip hop-influenced "Ships in the Night", Kearney is a passionate and dynamic performer who always connects with fans on his must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mat Kearney was born in Eugene, OR, but it wasn't until he attended college in Chico, CA that he discovered his passion for music. Following a trip to Nashville, Kearney picked up his roommate's guitar and begin plucking out tunes, and before long he was performing at local coffee shops. He linked up with producer Robert Marvin, and together they moved to Nashville and recorded Kearney's 2004 debut album Bullet. The record attracted the attention of execs at Columbia Records, who signed the budding singer just in time for the release of his 2006 sophomore album Nothing Left to Lose. That record was a hit, peaking at No. 2 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and receiving placement in several major TV shows. Kearney's next album, 2009's City of Black & White, topped the Christian Albums chart, and in 2011 he topped both the Christian chart and Top Rock Albums chart with his fourth album Young Love. An inspiring and emotional performer known for his soulful voice, Kearney continues to treat ticket buyers to passionate and moving shows on tour.

  • Happy to see him for first time

by barrabhoy on 7/19/09The National - RichmondRating: 3 out of 5

Heard a song of his on youtube for first time a couple months back and digged it. Saw he was in town and took a chance he would put on a good show. didn't disappoint.

  • Very Good Show- go!

    by Chaz1212 on 7/17/09The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Great to see Mat perform off his new album. New tracks, and changed up the beat/tempo of the older stuff. Erin was very good aswell, has a nice sense of humor also.

  • Mat was at the top of his game

by Silverhammer on 7/17/09The Blue Note - ColumbiaRating: 4 out of 5

This was the first time I had ever been to the Blue Note and Mat Kearney. We had a great time. It was a little loud...I am getting old, but Mat and his band were incredible.

  • Mat is Extremely Talented and Entertaining

by EmilyInIndy on 7/17/09Bluebird Nightclub - BloomingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I knew a lot of Mat's songs and wasn't sure I would have that great of a time considering I didn't have his new album yet, but I was definitely mistaken. Mat has such a presence on stage that it's very easy to get swept up in his music. His voice sounds amazing live and is extremely talented. Since it was at a small venue, the concert was very intimate which I loved. I was about 10 feet away from him the whole time. I would definitely reccommend seeing him, even if you only know his singles. Most likely you'll buy his album after the show anyways.

  • Mat Kearney and his band were amazingly talented!

by ElizabethAnn on 7/17/09The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I was completely impressed with Mat's musical talent. His band was incredible. However, the acoustics were not properly tuned to fit the venue. I love Kearney lyrics and I could not understand a lot of them. I believe this was due to the Audio Engineering. I would definately see him again if he were to come back to Richmond. Erin McCarley was quite a disappointment. She truly needed a entire band to support her beautiful voice. Any of her acoustic performances were fantastic but when she used the Ipod for the back ground music it overpowered her voice.

  • Mat was Amazing!

    by Dee83 on 7/17/09The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the show...well worth the drive from up north! First time I saw him live and he was great.....just wished he played a little longer! Love his style of music and how lyrically moving he is! Great show....would recommend seeing him!

  • Mat Kearney and Erin at the National...

by RobDL on 7/17/09The National - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great, and venue was great... its unfortunate that Richmond did not support with a bigger crowd.... espically for a weekend show... Keep getting great acts like Matt Kearney and Erin ...hopefully the crowds will come.

  • Mat Kearney - The National

    by Bobby12 on 7/16/09The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

It's rare that I've seen someone live and thought that they sounded even better than on their albums, but that was definitely the case with Mat Kearney. You get exactly the talent level you'd expect from his albums. His band was also extremely talented, with 2 others besides Mat playing multiple instruments with ease. His entire band carried themselves very well on stage, the only part that was occasionally a bit awkward was Mat's conversations/interactions with the audience between songs. The venue, The National in Richmond, VA, was also exceptional especially considering the show was only $24. I'd highly recommend both seeing Mat live as well as catching a show at The National.

  • First time won't be the last time

    by Jess757 on 7/16/09The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Erin McCarley set the tone for the night. She was amazing! Then Mat McKearney took the stage and the amazing night of music continued. This was my first time seeing either performer but since seeing them, I've got both their albums! Definitely worth a go!

  • America Your Deliverance is comin'!

by JStarr on 7/15/09The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great, there were tables and plenty of room on the floor. The Band was outstanding each playing an array of instruments it seemed, not to mention Mat who sang and played his heart out on guitar. but the most memorable moments of his were on the piano where the acoustics were perfect. A Rockin' show, thanks Mat and Band, you Rock!

I came to see Erin. She was so much better live than on her album. I was truly blow away by how talented she was. I would see her again and again.

  • Mat Kearney as good live as recorded

by mistalovalova on 7/15/09Beaumont Club - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first time to see Mat Kearney live, and while I've heard lots of His music, I really wasn't sure what to expect as far as a performance. He sounds just as good as He does on His albums, and although He's not a showman, I thought it was a great show. He sang all His well known sing-along-songs and some new ones too He even did some free-style rapping about Kansas City (where the show was), but I couldn't make out most of it from where I was sitting.

  • Mat Kearney's the JAM!!

    by Cardsgal05 on 7/14/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Mat Kearney is an incredible performer! What an amazing concert! We had a blast. He played all our favorite songs, and loved our first time at the Pageant in St. Louis! I would pay any amount of $$ to see him perform again... especially at the Pageant! Bring him back SOON!

  • Mat Kearney is amazing!

    by mira1989 on 7/14/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 4 out of 5

Mat Kearney is a truly amazing musician. He has a great voice and knows how to create great music. This is the second time ive seen him live and it was better than the 1st because i know the songs, and singing along always makes concerts more enjoyable.

  • Kearney Rises to Stardom!

by Pegep on 7/14/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Mat Kearney performed to a packed house treating us to personalized improv in his rock-n-rap style! Even if you don't think you know his music, you DO. His down to earth attitude and clear appreciation of fans makes his show a must see! Mat was joined by his once opening act, Tyler Burkum, to sing and play guitar which really added zing to an already strong vocal performance with perfectly in-sync harmony. A GREAT show with all (okay most) of his well-loved hits!

  • Mat was Amazing!!

    by Tee777 on 7/14/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

I loved this concert! Erin did a great opening and Mat really made it a fun night!

  • Mat Kearney was simply amazing!

    by musiclover1234 on 7/14/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

My friends and I got tickets to this show at the last minute. I wasn't a super big Mat Kearney fan before the concert, because a friend was the one that really wanted to go. The Pageant was a smaller venue than we imagined, but it was great. We were really close to the stage and Mat Kearney even walked down into the dance floor and interacted with the audience at one point. The sound was so loud that we felt we might be partially deaf later, but overall it was just an amazing concert! Mat Kearney's so entertaining! We would definitely recommend it. Plus, his guitarist Tyler was awesome too.

  • Such a great night!

    by lauren2322 on 7/14/09The Pageant - St LouisRating: 4 out of 5

The music was great! He played all the songs I wanted to hear, I'd definitly see him again if he came to town.

I loved this show. Mat is a fantastic entertainer... great songs and stage appeal. They sounded amazing live and really rocked the Pageant. I was on my feet through most of the show. Can't wait for his return...

  • Awesome!

This was a night to remember! Not only did he have a such a great stage presence at this small venue, he made everyone jump around. Can't wait to go see him again!
