MAT KEARNEY IN CONCERT:
Contemporary Christian rocker Mat Kearney has enthralled fans of inspirational and secular music alike with his unique blend of rock, pop, and hip hop. Kearney's emotional tunes are regularly featured on TV dramas like Grey's Anatomy and Kyle XY, and it's easy to see why -- his live performances reveal him to be a deeply spiritual soul whose heart-wrenching songs hold universal appeal. Whether he's crooning along to the acoustic strumming of "Breathe In Breathe Out" or kicking things up a notch with the hip hop-influenced "Ships in the Night", Kearney is a passionate and dynamic performer who always connects with fans on his must-see tours.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Mat Kearney was born in Eugene, OR, but it wasn't until he attended college in Chico, CA that he discovered his passion for music. Following a trip to Nashville, Kearney picked up his roommate's guitar and begin plucking out tunes, and before long he was performing at local coffee shops. He linked up with producer Robert Marvin, and together they moved to Nashville and recorded Kearney's 2004 debut album Bullet. The record attracted the attention of execs at Columbia Records, who signed the budding singer just in time for the release of his 2006 sophomore album Nothing Left to Lose. That record was a hit, peaking at No. 2 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and receiving placement in several major TV shows. Kearney's next album, 2009's City of Black & White, topped the Christian Albums chart, and in 2011 he topped both the Christian chart and Top Rock Albums chart with his fourth album Young Love. An inspiring and emotional performer known for his soulful voice, Kearney continues to treat ticket buyers to passionate and moving shows on tour.

by nhutch79 on 7/3/09The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5I saw Matt Kearney with John Mayer a few years ago when he was in Grand Rapids @ the Van Andel- he was great then, but he put on an amazing performance last night at the Intersection. For a small venue, the sound was perfect- not too loud, especially for a sold out show. He did a great mix of new music and older music and played it all with alot of energy! His band was also high energy and passionate about the music.

The band and songs played were great; there were no visible technical glitches. There were a couple songs I was hoping for that Mat didn't do, but I'm sure that's the case for every concert. Erin McCarly was great as an opener! The only two suggestions I would have would be to have Mat at a larger venue next time he comes to Grand Rapids. The Intersection was great, but it was packed. And there was quite a bit of time between when Erin finished her set and Mat come on. I know my friends and I were starting to wonder what was taking so long. But overall it was a fantastic concert!

The show was better than I could have imagined, he did a wonderful job with vocals, guitar, and he interacted with the crowd wonderfully which is rare to find. Mat Kearney put on one of the best show's I've seen in quite some time.

His music is just beautiful, the lyrics are so true and sweet, whether you knew every word or had never heard him before. His band was awesome, the ROCKED OUT! And He seemed like a very easy going, humble person and that definetly comes thru in his music, but also in his stage presence. He's not a diva, just a guy doing what he loves and hanging out with everyone there and so thankful that we all came and enjoyed it. VERY GENUINE and GRACIOUS... The place was packed, but I would go back in a second if I could !

Small venues are absolutely THE best place to see a major artist perform. Was able to walk up and be literally 10 feet away for the whole show. Played for 1:45. Can tell he's really invested in his music and incredibly talented.....from guitar to piano to rapping, singing....wow! Band was excellent. Opening act (Erin McCarly) was VERY good as well.

We were right up front next to the stage and got some great pictures and a front row view of Mat dancing, singing and interacting with the band and audience. Mat and the band gave a great performance. I've seen a lot of shows, all my favorites, but this was all around the best one I have EVER been to : ) I'd see him over and over again!
