    Mary Poppins was amazing

by cmex on 4/29/13Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I brought my granddaugther for her birthday we both had a great time. The play was fantastic, the different sets were amazing what a great job by everyone. The only thing I can say is there should be a notice that if you are late you will not be let in until intermission. It is very rude of people to show up late and disrupt the viewing of the event.

Great production of a poorly adapted script

    by afish01 on 4/29/13Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

My wife and I were looking forward to this Broadway adaptation of one of our favorite childhood stories. We both understood going in that this show would not be identical to the Disney movie, and that some adjustments would be needed to make it work on stage. We could not have been more disappointed! Whoever adapted this show to the stage took way too many liberties with the story and characters, turning a poignant story about the importance of a mother and father in children's lives into a cutesy, gag-inducing tale of how kids should be nice to their toys. I would say that only 50% of the original story and material was intact from the original. I do want to be clear, however, that all other aspects of the show, including the performers, musicians, costumes, set and lighting were all top-notch. If you go to this show, go with an open mind, and brace yourselves for the awkward dancing/singing statues in gray bodysuits!

    Mary Poppins Thrills all ages

    by Larry10G on 4/28/13Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

From the Musical numbers that have you singing for days after the curtain closes, to the amazing stage tricks that make you scratch your head wondering how they did that. You will smile from ear to ear when the music begins to the final bow.

For a broadway musical I expected a little more. Good singing voices but not spectacular. Stage props were excellent though.

    Mary Poppins

    by Swiffer55 on 4/27/13Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I bought tickets to Mary Poppins as a gift to my closest friend who is hopelessly enthralled with most things Disney. I went along, fully prepared to be put into a sugar coma due to the subject matter. I left very happy because od the quality of the show. Dancing , costumes and singing were great. Thank you for a pleasant night of music after a week of horrible news.

    Mary Poppins a Supercalifragilistic disappointment

by Anonymous on 4/27/13Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

For a Disney production, lacked the expected production value. Cast was avergae. Story line was poorly executed. Spent way too much money on a very disappointing production. Left at intermission.

    Don't change what works

    by Rolin64 on 4/27/13Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I went to Mary Poppins expecting to sing along with favorite old songs. I looked forward to a rollicking round of "We're merely soldiers in petticoats, dauntless crusaders for women's votes". I gleefully anticipated an exciting rendition of "Step in Time" with incredible dancing. Instead, both songs and story had been altered. New songs (not so good songs) were introduced. Original songs were altered and watered down. New scenes were introduced. It did not even seem congruent for Mary, Bert, and the kids to go to a store to buy letters from an orange-clad Jamaican woman so that they could spell superclifragilous. Of course, they sang a new version of the song. Another criticism is the elaborate set. I would have preferred that the director placed his or her energy on the traditional song and dance rather than on producing cumbersome set pieces that were frequently moved around. I once saw Fiddler on the Roof. The director had one or two props and not much set design, but Tevya sang the original songs like a pro and the acting was amazing. Afterward we would not stop clapping. The point is that the content is more important than cumbersome visuals. The strong point of this version of Mary Poppins was Bert's performance. His acting, singing, dancing were spot on. I would have followed him through any chalk drawing. However, regrettably they did not jump through a chalk drawing in the play.

Truly an unforgettable experience! There is so much life in the show and the cast is phenomenal. I would HIGHLY recommend Mary Poppins to everybody- especially since it is suitable for all ages! I was a little unsure about how the show would be performed since there are so many aspects of the movie that would be difficult to replicate on stage; however, the show surpassed all of my highest expectations. Absolutely go see Mary Poppins!

The look on my daughters face said it all. She was thrilled, excited and we were both impressed. Mary Poppins didn't disappoint.

    childhood memories... but VERY long!

by hawaiiane on 4/25/13Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

I thought this was about 5-7 scenes too long... it was great to bring back childhood memories but we thought it went a little over what was appropriate.
