    Absolutely amazing!

by KcB100 on 9/16/12DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

It was the Liberation Tour. Mary J Bluge, Melaine Fiona, and D'Angelo. Melaine was great! It was my first time seeing her. Great stage presence. Next up was D'Angelo. Not really into his music but the crowd seemed to enjoy him. Then the queen came out. It was my 2nd time seeing Mary in concert, she is phenomenal! She performed all her hits. True talent. She is amazing to see live

    The reigning queen of r&b

by Adaway1 on 9/16/12DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Mary j was supernatural in every since of the word! No gimmicks, no dancers and stage tricks. Just her, the voice, her determination and talent. I have seen mary about 10 times, each time she was phenominal but she was as great as she has ever been here. Highly recommended, worth every penny. D'angelo, melanie fiona and starshell were all awesome as well!

D'Angelo THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!!

    by enchrge323 on 9/16/12United Center - Chicago

Mary J. Blige was awesome as usual. Never ever has she disappointed me! However D'angelo's voice was great, his performance was short and not impressive. Mary being the professional that she is notified the Audience that he was late due to a personal issue. He came on stage did his short show and never even apologized for the late start.

    It was like watching tv

by MSPAPAYA on 9/16/12United Center - Chicago

One pet peeve of mine is punctuality. They started late and intermission was an hour. Now that being said MJB did apologize indicating that D"Angelo had an emergency that caused a delay and I definitely applaud her for that. The overall show was pretty good, but would not pay $165 for the show again.

Dangelo was Great, for 25 min. He started an hour late and then barely played. The sound was horrible, super boomy. I was really disappointed in this concert.

    Decent Concert

by Anonymous on 9/16/12United Center - Chicago

The concert was decent but there was too much time between each performer. I have never experienced such a gap in performances. This caused a lot of down time and prolong the show. The main act (Mary J Blige) apologized and stated D'Angelo had a situation and could not make the concert on time. I imagine this was the cause for all the delays. Perhaps the delays from the starting time and throughout the show was because they were trying to give him time to arrive. The show started about 1.5 hours late and there was at least a 15-20 minute break between each act. This took away from my experience and I didn't like the opening act but Mary J's performance was good and it was nice to hear some of her older songs.

MJB and the rest of the crew were great.

by MGChicagoNY on 9/16/12United Center - Chicago

Although the event was plagued by long delays it was a great show and we had a good time. One recommendation would be to stop encouraging the audience to sing the songs - I came here to hear you sing MJB not the audience.

    Unprofessional and Disappointing

by MsRave on 9/16/12United Center - Chicago

I really want to give this concert more stars but after the long, long, long delays I just can't. Mary J. was excellent and I think she delivered, however it just did not compensate for the events that took place before she took the stage. First, the concert started 45 min late. Second, there was a big gap between the first and second act. Third, the delay between the second act and the third act (D'Angelo) was unbelievably long. In my opinion, he should have been skipped because of this delay (over 1 1/2 hour.) This type of delay causes great frustration in the crowds and tempers start to flare. Mary J., being the headliner should have made a decision to cut him. She was apologetic about his delay, which I did appreciate her addressing, but all in all this was just too unprofessional to keep fans waiting that period of time. Don't get me wrong, I understand emergencies happen, but sometimes you got to cut your losses.

    Great Performances

by jgmrkool on 9/16/12United Center - Chicago

The concert was great. Melanie Fiona was good live. Her band was really good. Mary J. Blige was amazing. This show was way better than her show at the Chicago Theater last year. Even though that was a good show. At this show she was able to take advantage of the lighting of the United Center. Hopefully she will be able to do her next show at the U.C. The only down side was waiting almost a half hour between Melanie and D'Angelo. D'Angelo put on a great show as well. I'm glad soul artists are able to make money touring. R&B is dying these days, but these artists help keep people like me happy who want to hear good music. I would say if this tour comes to your town go see it.

    The Liberation Tour was Liberating!

by ChiProfessional on 9/15/12United Center - Chicago

I arrived to the United Center around 6:30, a half hour early for a show reported to start at 7 pm. The show did not start until 7:35, but that was fine, I actually didn't expect it to start on time. The first opening act was a new singer named Starshell, whose signed to Mary J. Blige's record label. I wasn't really into her generic pop/r&b sound and was glad she only performed 3 songs. It was awhile before the next opening act performed, which was Melanie Fiona. I like her, so i was anxious to see how well she performed. She's a good performer, very passionate. D'angelo was slated to perform next, but it was over an hour before he hit the stage; apparently he had an emergency that caused his lateness. D'angelo performed very well; I liked the new funkier arrangements of his classic songs. The ladies in the audience went crazy when he performed a bit of Untitled (How does it feel?). On to the headliner, Mary J. Blige. I loved her performance! She performed all of my favorite songs of hers, including Real Love, Not Gon Cry, Love No Limit, Love a Woman, Be Without You, Sweet Thing, and many more. She's definitely worth seeing in concert.

    D'angelo was disappointing

by Anonymous on 9/15/12United Center - Chicago

I really came to see D'angelo and was very much let down when he only played about 4 songs. Mary J Blige came out to apologize for him being late due to an "unexpected emergency." However, he should have told the crowd that at the beginning and apologized himself.

    MJB

by KennyWatk on 9/15/12United Center - Chicago

MJB truly the queen of hiphop, was outstanding, D'Angelo was late and did a short set, but sounded great. Loved Starchelle, real potential; was not feeling Melanie. Overall a very good show.

Mary J Blige gave a good performance over all. My biggest complaint is that there was too much time between acts. There was atleast a 20-30 minute wait for the next performer to come on. Maybe next time make it more streamlined.

D'Angelo an Hour Late; MJB stuck in the 1990s

    by Critical100 on 9/15/12United Center - Chicago

MJB has produced some very mature adult music since the 1990s, and in particular during the last 5 years. She sings none of that in this concert, which is the same concert she's been doing forever. D'Angelo's 1-hour delay is simply inexcusable, notwithstanding MJB's vague reference to "an emergency."
