About

Grammy-nominated Marvin Sapp credits the entirety of his pop culture success to his faith, a power that served as the sole inspiration behind his 2012 participation in the Kings Men tour — not to mention his best-selling 2007 release, Thirsty. After achieving success with this breakthrough album, Sapp proceeded to further spread his faith by pursuing a speaking tour, as well as a live recording of several fan favorites at churches and cathedrals across the country. Sapp’s performances has fans on their feet, swaying side to side to his slow, yet inspirational  lyrics. In 2009, the gospel singer followed up his huge breakthrough album by recording "Here I Am" live at Wyoming, Michigan's Resurrection Life Church. More recently, he's followed a similar concert album route with the release of "I Win," a touching collection recorded at Evangel Cathedral near Washington, D.C.

Although largely unrecognized until his 2007 spiral to fame, Marvin Sapp's musical career hails back to 1991, when he joined gospel group Commissioned as one of the lead vocalists and participated in three major albums as well as an extensive American tour. In 1996, Sapp broke away from Commissioned in hopes of launching a solo career, thus beginning the eleven-year journey that ultimately led to 2007's Thirsty. Since that first major record success, Sapp's achievements have included BET's Best Gospel Artist in 2008 and 2010, plus multiple Grammy nominations in 2013. His late 2013 plans included taking the same faith-based approach to music responsible for his many awards, album accolades and ticket sales, infusing the traditional gospel approach with his distinctive contemporary style.

by Lelia on 5/10/22Greensboro Coliseum Complex - Greensboro

There was a GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT that Kierra Sheard did not show up and no one said anything or even announce it...I bought my daughter who LOVES HER!!! and she was not there. The ones that sang off of CD's was a disappointment also...We came to see a live concert. Some appearances were too short...JJ Hairston brought the house down, but was too short!!!

    No holding back

by pattywackS on 5/10/22Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Sure, these artists belt it out when recording, but I expected some reserved efforts when on your, and test thier vocal stamina days on end. Nope, full bore vocals like caution to the wind, inspiring, admiring, nothing cold here.

    Disappointed Listener

by DeDe on 5/10/22Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Me and my fiance came to get a soul spiritual experience. We left there feeling that we had never went. Meaning, that sound system was horrible. I love all of those gospel singers. But I didn't spend all that money come and see karaoke review. The microphones were muffled and even though I was on the floor the sound was terrible. It did not do any justice for the Entertainer. It was disturbing the way the light man was flashing the lights it was hurting their eyes. We could not get the full experience I'm getting our praise on because we have to strain to really hear the sound or hear the voices of the singers and the fact that they were singing with recordings of backup singers. It's like you had two different sounds going with backup singers on a recording and the act the actual singer trying to sing and it really was a horrible sound. Next time they're going to have to do better. Because I love all of them and I did not enjoy it at all. The next day I woke up and it's like I had nothing to talk about and it shouldn't be like that not one God is in the house and the spirit should be high. Tickets was too high to not get the full experience I was expecting the spirit to be all up in there and so high that I told my fiance I wanted some of that. And when I got there I didn't get it. Very disappointed.

    Awesome combo

by MitaJ on 5/9/22Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Every artist killed it. The pipes on tamela Mann are unmatched, I was to happy to hear KP just wished both the ladies had longer- Donnie M and Marvin S killed. The venue could’ve done better from the transition between artists to sound from the mics being sketchy. But I loved the singing and would do it all over again

Excellent show. Screens would be nice because you can't see when people stand up and the sound systems needs to be update, couldn't understand the lyrics.

by Boot on 5/9/22Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Music to LOUD !!! Couldn't hear him.He was disrespectful by wearing track pants and gym shoes. As if he was running around doing errands and decided to stop by the FOX and sing a few songs . THE WHOLE SHOW was a STICK UP. I WANT MY MONEY BACK !!!!

    Not a good experience !!!!

by Yoli on 5/9/22Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Marvin Sapp was amazing, the show seemed very unprofessional. Too much wait time in between the different singers. The sound wasn’t right. Bishop Sapp hand gestured to the people to turn up the monitors or volume. I did not feel that it was a spiritual show which is what I came for. It felt more like low level entertainment. People were drinking alcohol. The man sitting next to me was so drunk he kept dancing and falling on me. They kept leaving and going to the bar to buy drink at. We left when Kelly Price got up, we couldn’t take it any longer. Someone was vaping, how in the world are people allow to smoke at the fox. I wish I could get a refund. We spent $250 for those two tickets for a horrible experience. I was extremely disappointed. I have been to the fox at least 20 times. Maybe this was just a bad promoter, but that event left a bad taste in my mouth for a gospel show. I wish I could rate lower then a 1 star but, I can’t. This is no reflection on Bishop Sapp he sang beautifully.
