About

Grammy-nominated Marvin Sapp credits the entirety of his pop culture success to his faith, a power that served as the sole inspiration behind his 2012 participation in the Kings Men tour — not to mention his best-selling 2007 release, Thirsty. After achieving success with this breakthrough album, Sapp proceeded to further spread his faith by pursuing a speaking tour, as well as a live recording of several fan favorites at churches and cathedrals across the country. Sapp’s performances has fans on their feet, swaying side to side to his slow, yet inspirational  lyrics. In 2009, the gospel singer followed up his huge breakthrough album by recording "Here I Am" live at Wyoming, Michigan's Resurrection Life Church. More recently, he's followed a similar concert album route with the release of "I Win," a touching collection recorded at Evangel Cathedral near Washington, D.C.

Although largely unrecognized until his 2007 spiral to fame, Marvin Sapp's musical career hails back to 1991, when he joined gospel group Commissioned as one of the lead vocalists and participated in three major albums as well as an extensive American tour. In 1996, Sapp broke away from Commissioned in hopes of launching a solo career, thus beginning the eleven-year journey that ultimately led to 2007's Thirsty. Since that first major record success, Sapp's achievements have included BET's Best Gospel Artist in 2008 and 2010, plus multiple Grammy nominations in 2013. His late 2013 plans included taking the same faith-based approach to music responsible for his many awards, album accolades and ticket sales, infusing the traditional gospel approach with his distinctive contemporary style.

This was my first live Gospel Concert and it was a huge disappointment. Leandria Johnson was under the influence of something and arrived in a short tank top, shinny leggings, house shoes and uncombed hair as if she just got out of bed.. She walked around the audience talking more than singing. Better Days and Donald Lawrence Deliver Me were her familiar songs. The other 2 songs were not even related to her brand at all and she told the audience she wasn't going to show up because she goes through alot in life. I'm still a fan of her music however I will never pay to attend a live performance again. Marvin Sapp is an awesome singer but puts minimal effort into showmanship. He had no backup singers and used a very very loud soundtrack to sing over. There was no stage effects/decor at all. A very lifeless performance! Mr. Sapp was also dressed in jeans and a shirt like he had been shopping at Sams Club before his performance. His presentation reminded me of the gospel songs used in Tyler Perry plays. I was so hyped before the show and spent $150 each for three seats. Take my advice and save your money. These two artist did not compliment each other at all. The energy was off as if they were playing church. The performance wasn't authentic and for both artist it felt like showing up was just a money grab. I didn't feel inspired or anything leaving the show when Gospel music is supposed to feed your soul. Save your money and continue to watch these artist on youtube.

Disappointed Greensboro Coliseum Complex - Greensboro I love Marvin Sapp’s music, but I was disappointed in the concert. I was expecting him to perform more of his current music and he performed music from his old albums. I’m not sure why he chose to do that. It may be because he did not have live backup singers, and he was relying on pre-recorded back up singer music that he has performed before.

  • Loved the lineup, but the sound system was not good

by Angie on 5/10/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

This concert was my first since Covid-19 and was drawn by the individuals on stage as I loved each and everyone one. For some reason or another, the sound quality was not good. I couldn't hear well even though I was sitting way up in the theatre. I've sat in that similar area for previous events and didn't have trouble in the past. The music was too loud and couldn't hear 3 out of the 5 acts/singers. It was muffled. I was disappointed as I couldn't really hear to sing along or hear the message in their words.

by Gina on 5/10/22Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Lighting was painful on my eyes. Did not like the mix of worldly music with gospel music. To long of a break between artists. Sponsor a child organization should have stayed in the lobby. Took up a lot of showtime with her speech.

  • Marvin Sapp Concert - Greensboro, NC

by Regina on 5/10/22Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

Overall the concert was great! One suggestion would be to have monitors up. I had great seats, but when I sat down and patrons in front of me continued to stand, it was difficult to see.
