About

Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

  • Marianas Trench was PHENOMENAL!!!

by ChrisP on 10/4/24The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

What an awesome show!! Their ability to harmonize and the lead singers ability to hit high notes and sustain them are so moving!! They were also quite hilarious. Would definitely see them again!!

  • This band deserves a travelling orchestra

by Harmonic Fairy on 10/4/24Citizens House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I’ve been a fan of Marianas Trench since I grew up hearing them on the radio in Canada often. This was my first time seeing them live and what a thrill to finally be in a room with them doing their thing! I LOVED the set design and lighting effects and of course Josh’s neat light up jacket. It was great that Matt and Michael also got to sing lead on a song too. My only complaint is that all the extra instrumentals had to be played from a track. I would KILL to hear them perform A Normal Life with a full, live orchestra. The music is just too epic and it’s what they deserve. I wish the rest of the world valued them enough for them to grow and afford to do shows like that because the music deserves to be honored in that way. I hope to see it happen! In the mean time, they did an excellent job onstage and I had a great time at the show.

  • Wicked Awesome

This is probably the fourth or fifth time I’ve seen Marianas Trench live and wow every single time they manage to put on a show you won’t ever forget!

  • Amazing

by Dax on 10/4/24Citizens House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Marianas Trench live more than once and every time it's an amazing show. They are so theatrical and wholesome (Josh Ramsay said thank you after every song), and they know how to just have fun on stage. They always sound the best of any concert I've seen live; it's never a let down to see them. Can't wait until they're back in Boston again.

  • always amazing

  • 10/10 WOW...!

by SWestleyJ60 on 10/4/24Citizens House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I'd never been to the House of Blues in Boston before but it exceeded my expectations in every way. First of all, buying passes to their Foundation Room was a great decision - While everyone else stood in line on the street, waiting for the doors to open, we got right in, went upstairs, had a few drinks, and relaxed by the fireplace in the Foundation Room for the concert to start. What a way to pass an hour...! Second, I hadn't seen Marianas Trench in concert before, but this was one of the best shows I have been to in quite some time - They played for about 2 hours, and literally put everything they had into the concert. Their musicianship was impeccable, as was their collective enthusiasm, and as a result, it was incredible - What a fantastic show...! Third, we had balcony seats, which I thought were going to be standing-room-only, and I was NOT looking forward to that. However, we had seats up there, we were only 20' from the closest bar, and could see the stage spectacularly. I would definitely buy those seats again...! Lastly, there are a lot of reviews for the House of Blues online, and a lot of them are negative, specifically because of the tight security and rules. I had a wonderful experience though, and thought that the security personnel were friendly and super-helpful. Getting to the merchandise table required them to escort us there, but it really is understandable - They can't have folks who bought balcony seats going down on the main floor to watch the show, and they can't have floor ticket holders sneaking up to the balconies. In every interaction I had with them, they were polite, helpful, and super-friendly. I think House of Blues was the PERFECT place to see Marianas Trench - What a powerful, wonderful, incredible show it was - I will DEFINITELY go see them again when they come to Boston next...!

  • Amazing venue, amazing band

by Bella on 10/4/24Citizens House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Marianas trench put on one of the best shows I have ever attended. They were engaging with the crowd, charismatic, funny, and seemed to have excellent chemistry as a band. I have loved Marianas trench since I was in middle school, so getting to see them live was a dream come true. The House of Blues was a beautiful venue with parking garage access nearby, diligent staff, and great views of the stage from all over the building.

  • Awesome Band

by Deb on 10/3/24The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

The concert itself was amazing. Was a little upset about the venue. I purchased premium parking but was not directed to the right parking lot. So I wound up wasting 25 dollars for nothing. We are also supposed to receive an autograph picture I don’t know if it’s supposed to be mailed with the merchandise that we are supposed to get. They do not fully explain what everything. The Marianas Trench was phenomenal. Both opening performers were also amazing. I also tried to call the Filmore several times to clarify things. No one ever answers.

  • Marianas Trench

by BrynnD on 10/3/24The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing them live even though I’ve been listening to their music since I was a teen. They did not disappoint! Their stage presence and crowd interaction was top tier. The energy from the openers, the band, and the fans was something so special. I’m super excited to see them again whenever they come back in town.

  • The Masterpiece that is the Haven of a Show

by Laurie on 10/2/24The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

Marianas Trench is phenomenonal live. From the harmonies live that gives you goosebumps to having all of the weather effects around the Haven theming. When the fake rain effect happened during Into the Storm it felt so magical like being transformed into a movie. If you ever get a chace to see Marianas Trench do not miss it. Josh, Matt, Mike, and Ian are masterminds and their talent needs to be shared.

This was my fourth time seeing Marianas Trench in the last 9 years. Each time is the best night of my life. Twice during their shows I've been told by my partner, "I've never seen you so happy."Their music is phenomenal, sounding even better live than the recordings. There is just something so intense about their energy that comes through in their live performances. They play all the hits while promoting their new album. Josh's banter and engagement with the crowd is always fun. It was great to see him IN the crowd jumping up and down with us! I will always make time to see my favorite band.

  • Stellar!

    by Mari G on 10/1/24Rating: 5 out of 5

I did the VIP Gold package for this tour date - and it was phenomenal! MT never disappoints. The Q&A is lively and funny; the meet and greet photo op always turns out hilariously memorable photos. These guys are just a class act filled with talent. You can tell they love what they do, and you can clearly see their friendship shine on stage. And beyond all else, the music is friggin stellar!

  • Marianas Trench Live at the Fillmore

by Logan Garrett on 9/30/24The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I had a fantastic experience with Marianas Trench, Cassadee Pope, and Piao, at the Fillmore. It was a bit crowded on the floor with a lot of unnecessary touching from some of the patrons who had partaken in the libations offered at the event, that were standing around us. The majority of the patrons were very respectful and a good time was had by all. The only downside was that the venue was VERY concerned with not letting the temperature get too high, so there was a *stiff*, cold breeze in the floor area. My wife and I will likely spend a few extra dollars to have seats in the balcony, in the event that we have another occasion to attend this venue. The bands were phenomenal, and the crew was incredible with the technical stage work that needed to be done during and between acts. I've loved Marianas Trench for many years now, and it was a special treat to be within 35 feet of the stage from these great showmen. Piao was delightful, but I wish the mixing had allowed us to hear more of her great vocals, instead of the heavy bass from her tracks. Cassadee Pope put on a great show and her band members were excellent. I was very pleased with the overall experience, but will be sure to either bring a jacket for my wife, or we will be sitting in the balcony, next time around. Thanks for the chance to see one of my favourite bands, live!

  • Great Concert

by Liz on 9/30/24Irving Plaza Powered By Verizon 5G - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I had such a great time at the Marianas Trench concert. They performed songs from their recent album but from their older ones as well. The whole band sounds just as good as they do on the album. I had a blast!!

Loved them for a long time. Brought a friend who never heard of them. She left impressed. Openings were awesome too. Always loved Cassadee. PIAO was a welcomed surprise!

I have been listening to Marianas Trench since 2008 and have wanted to see them in concert since then. This concert was everything and more! Security was great and the Underground was an awesome venue! 10/10 would go again!

  • MT IS THE BEST BAND EVERRRRRRR

by syn on 9/24/24Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was SO AMAZING!!! I knew it was a standing concert, so I came prepared with good shoes, but if you don’t want to stand for so long, definitely get a balcony seat lol The opening acts were amazing however I did not expect them to last for so long! the theatre was full by 7:30, but the actual show didn’t start until around 9:30– it’s fine because I’m a big piao fan and cassadee pope’s set was really great too, but since there’s no intermission, definitely get your drinks and stuff in between the openings. Very nice crowd, the energy was so wonderful and I felt really safe and relaxed with this fanbase
