Marianas Trench in Concert
Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.
Marianas Trench Background
Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.
I can't put into words how much I loved every facet of this show.
I’m a new listener to Marianna’s Trench. Killer performance! I danced the whole time. Blown away by lead vocals!
I’ve been to see Marianas Trench 3 times now and this is the best of them all. Heard some of my favorite songs (Here’s To The Zeroes!!!) and Josh came super close (like maybe 2 feet) away from me during Pop 101. The crowd made it an amazing experience, worth the three year wait.
Marianas Trench is one of my favorite bands and it was incredible to see them perform live. Even though Josh had slightly lost his voice and/or was sick, they still put on one hell of a show and I hope they come back to SLC again!
This was my first time at the Depot and I was really pleased! I'll be back two more times in the next month, now. Very excited to go back!
They are always amazing but Sunday they were on fire. I couldn't stop moving to the beat. Love them and their music.
I've been a long time listener but never had a chance to see them live. They far exceeded all my Spotify-limited expectations. Please come back to CBus soon!
The only negative was the line to get in. I felt like the doors opened late. But the bands were amazing. Mariana's trench is the best band live I've ever seen. First time hearing New Dialogue and they were great too. We had a great view, great time, and no lines for beer or bathroom.
Show was great. Venue fine. Expensive drinks but to be expected. I draw the line at that burning tire fire excuse for a pizza. Y'all ever tasted pizza?? It tasted like the smell of when an oversized diesel truck peels out unnecessarily fast. And adding basil does nothing who are you trying to kid???
I’d never been to a show at Newport Music Hall before but it was honestly such a great time and the perfect venue for Marianas Trench. Josh got to interact with every single part of the crowd and it made the show unforgettable. So glad I got to be there to experience it all!
Marianas Trench was amazing! I only got introduced to their music in the last 2 years, but seeing them live made me want to hear every song on repeat. The band put on an excellent show, with great stage presence and interaction with the audience. I hope they come back to Columbus soon!
Definitely one of the best nights of my life, finally getting to see my favorite band and having such a great crowd was the best experience I could’ve wished for
Best show ever! Got tickets right to my phone and was able to attend the show, no problem! Super fun and worth the drive.
Incredible talent and energy from Marianas Trench. Excellent concert.
It's been 3 days since the concert and I'm honestly still bopping along to it in my mind, going over all the memories over and over again. I would 11/10 go see Marianas Trench live again. They really know how to put on a show! And the music is bomb.
The music, the energy, the venue, the staff and the crowd were perfect! This is the most fun I’ve ever had at a show. I had the privilege of seeing Mariana’s Trench at The Filmore in Silver Spring, MD on Cinco de Mayo, and it was MARAVILLOSO!
Literally so amazing. The guys put so much work and talent into their performance. Love them
Made a Roadtrip from Texas to Georgia to see the band. The venue was not in the easiest place to find and not in the safest of areas but the band was awesome. Very impressed.
Josh Ramsay has one of those rare voices that sounds better live than on an album. Their energy is infectious, and they are so down to earth and humble. This was our second time catching them on a tour and they surpassed the expectations set by their last show at the Masquerade! Worth every penny.
I wish they had done way more of Astoria or even their newer album. I was sad they didn't do a single one of my favorite songs
