About

Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

  • Marinas Trench at the Paradise Boston - Fantastic

    by TDFnumber1 on 6/12/13Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Marinas Trench sounded great, they have so many great songs and a ton of energy. I was surpised how well the crowd knew the words to many of their songs. They still are not that well known in the U.S. although that will change soon. They will become as big as All Time Low or bigger. The Paradise is a great venue, one of the only ones you can leave and come back. I have been to over 1000 concerts and this was the first I saw a wedding proposal and the lead singer acknowledged it during the show!

Marianas Trench were great live! I can't recommend them enough. Just so much energy, fun, and the music/vocals were even more impressive in person than on the album! Great crowd interaction, everyone who was there wanted to be there and loved the band. It was a sold out show, a rainy Monday night and people still waited out in the downpour after the show to meet the band, wish Josh a happy birthday, and connect with other fans.

Ticket was for my daughter. She had a great time and said the bad sounded "Amazing"

The concert was amazing! Air Dubai was pretty decent (though I wasn't a fan of Ghost Town or DJ Protector). Marianas Trench was brilliant and, apparently, Boston was the loudest show of the tour so far. Pretty good. It was my first time in a mosh pit and I loved it, there was even a proposal in the middle of the pit. Josh noticed and started talking with the two. Overall, it was a blast and I will most definitely be going to another MT concert and I highly recommend going to see them live.

  • Marianas Trench is fantastic live!

by Anonymous on 6/12/13Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

After having been a fan of the band for a few years now, I finally got to see them live. The first year I liked them I was a bit skeptical, how could people create such perfect harmonies and jump octaves so quickly? I stopped worrying about it after watching a few of their live performances on youtube. After the show, I can definitely say that they're just as good, if not even better live, than they are recorded. I had VIP for this experience and it was perfect, every boy was such a sweetheart and listened to what you had to say and didn't show any sense of being annoyed to anybody at all, it was really great! Journeys also picked great opening bands, there was great variety for everyone!

    by DanP1992 on 6/12/13Paradise Rock Club - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

WOW, one of the best shows I've been to. DJ Protector was awesome Ghost Town was great, they got fans really into the show. There music sounded perfect. They played their most popular tunes that everyone could sing to. Air Dubai to me was shocking. I never heard of them till this concert. There music was fantastic. Had rap, dance and rock all rolled into one. Marianas trench was great. The venue was small (which was nice), the acoustics were outstanding.

  • UNFORGETTABLE!!

by bratsassy15 on 6/11/13The Stone Pony - Asbury ParkRating: 5 out of 5

Josh has the voice of a God!! Marianas Trench sounds just as amazing live as they do on their tracks, and I can't wait for them to tour in the US more! The small size of the venue made it hard to have a bad spot- everyone was close to the action, and they put on an amazing show. They were so nice and came out to meet fans after the show.

  • Marianas Trench in Asbury Park!

I've seen this band live four times, and this was the BEST show. Josh was SO into it and really connected and had a good time. It was so great and I am so proud of this band for making it this far. Can't wait to see what's to come!

  • The Noise Tour Was Epic

by Shatteredrocker on 6/11/13The Stone Pony - Asbury ParkRating: 5 out of 5

All the bands were amazing. Especially Marianas Trench and Ghost Town. All the bands showed their hearts were in their band and they loved what they were doing. Can't wait to see them live in the (hopefully) near future. It's been the best night I've had in a while thanks to all the bands.

Best concert I've been to in my almost 20 years of life. They are one of my favorite bands, and I had never seen them live, so I had no idea what to expect. I was amazed at how great the whole show was and how awesome the crowd was, too. I want to go see them every time they are playing near me now, and they might even become my #1 band after this!

  • Marianas Trench knows how to put on a rock show!

by emergemusicgroup on 6/9/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

What an incredible concert! Marianas Trench, even though this is their first headlining tour in this part of the US, put on a full out rock show. Complete with video interludes, incredible lighting and most of all - great, great music. One of those rare rock bands that have really talented musicians - they all played different instruments and did so well. SO much fun - check them out if you get the opportunity!

  • Marianas Trench was awesome!

by aweebitspooky on 6/9/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was great! The venue (which we'd never been to before) had good sound quality, and was spacious and clean. The opening acts were great, and Marianas Trench wasn't late coming on stage, which was a nice change from other concerts I've been to. They had a good setlist and performed for just the right amount of time. I would definitely go see Marianas Trench again, and I'd definitely go to this venue again.

  • Solid Trencher Forever!

by Pandaks on 6/9/13The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

God, what a fantastic show. All of the bands were on point, but most especially the headliner that I came to see: Marianas Trench. They used the space to the best of their theatrical ability and absolutely killed it. The Fillmore is also a really nice venue. I just wish the beer wasn't so expensive, haha! Overall just an amazing experience. 10/10 would do again.
