Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

  • Extremely Talented Group

    by MrEyes88 on 2/1/16The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The lead singer was very flamboyant. It made me apprehensive at first considering I had a group of teenagers with me. His pants were so low that I was terrified of a wardrobe malfunction with my 13 yr old daughter at the railing! But, my fears were unfounded. The lead singer was provocative and theatrical while remaining just on the right side of good taste. And good for him and the band that they were able to do so. Anything else would have detracted from their fantastic music and all of their tremendous musical talent. I predict that Marianas Trench are on the brink of stardom. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to see them perform in the intimate Paramount venue. I will be happy to say I saw them when....

  • Really fun night

The opening band Mainland and Marianas Trench both played great. Marianas Trench had a really great stage presence. Very funny and personable on the stage. Definitely made it a really fun night.

Got Vip tickets for a meet and greet. Was supposed to be there promptly at 4:00 pm to get Vip entrance to see the band rehearse, and get photos and a private performance , etc.. because tardiness was unacceptable, but we got there at 3:30.. Had to wait outside in a line in 30* weather. They would not let us in during rehearsal and we didn't get inside until around 5:00 pm. We got to stand in front of the stage and gather around while they talked a little and answered questions. Then lined up for a photo with the band. And they made us leave the room and go stand in another room of the venue to wait until 7:00 for the show to start to be allowed back inside prior to general admission guests being let in. It was basically 3-4 hours of waiting around in the cold (it was snowing ) my toes were about to break off.. And then they let us go back in the concert room by 7:30 which meant the general admission people had to wait outside in the cold Til anout 7:30-8.... The show didn't even start until 9:15.. The opening band was great they did about 45minutes then it was another 20 minutes of setting up in between then Marianna's tench performed until about 10:30... They did a good job as far as performance but I honestly would never do it again or recommend it unless you're truly a hardcore fan. I spent $355 on tickets to Madonna and she had us waiting about 2.5 hours from the ticket event start time, but it was well worth every penny. To stand outside for a supposed Vip meet and greet for that long and get shoveled around twice, is rediculous. We didn't even have seats it was a stand up venue & even if u paid for Vip didn't mean you were guaranteed the closest view of the show. I gave it two stars because I did get to be in the front. I would've just went and not paid for the Vip. lights blinded me half the time I couldn't see the actual people on stage bc a few times the spotlight shining directly in my eyes. They shouldn't direct the spotlight at people...

  • Great show!

    by LaurenY44 on 1/27/16Revolution Live - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

I was a little skeptical of all the group vocals live, but the new song group vocals were outstanding!! And Josh hit every note like the pro he is, very impressive. Josh's stage presence was the highlight of the show (besides his voice)--he really knew how to work the stage! The lights and backdrop were pretty cool, and the show was outstanding overall. I would definitely see them again!!

  • Marianas Trench KILLED it!!!!

    by bmorgan38 on 1/27/16Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

By far one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I've been a fan of Marianas Trench for years now and finally getting to see them live was so surreal. They made the show so much fun and kept us begging for me! Cannot wait until they come back to Atlanta!

  • Marianas Trench

by Ash1028 on 1/26/16House of Blues Orlando - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

Mariana's Trench was epic! They put on an excellent show. I understand they need to do Canada and all first but they need to put Orlando on their touring list and keep it there.

  • It was a real experience

by hcantrell on 1/25/16Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Everything that you heard on the recordings was amplified and Josh's voice was incredible. There's nothing he can't do with that voice. It was very high energy and exciting, the band was hilarious, and they hung out with us afterward

  • by Anonymous on 1/25/16Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

To put it simply these guys are amazing! Josh, Mike, Matt, and Ian really know how to keep a crowd entertained. the antics between the band members keeps the show's atmosphere lively and like you found your long lost best friend. If you love Marianas Trench I highly recommend that you get to a show as soon as possible, you'll regret it if you don't!!!!

  • Marianas Trench & Mainland ROCKED The Masquerade!

by Mlkcrtnmdl on 1/25/16Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I had never heard of Mainland before, but they came out and brought it like headliners. Once they had the crowd worked up into a frenzy, the boys from Marianas Trench came on and finished the job. The floor of the Masquerade was bouncing all night as though a cave in was imminent. The level of showmanship in this concert was amazing. We had VIP tickets and the guys were incredibly kind and giving to both of my daughters. Ian is expecting a child and based on how he was with my 8 year old, he's more than ready for the job. Keep your eye on both of these bands, because they deserve all the success that will surely be coming their way.

  • Marianas Trench: Hey You Guys

    by Kimikins1308 on 1/25/16Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I've been obsessed with this band since high school; finally getting to see them after I graduated college was a dream come true. If you want showmanship with incredible vocals sprinkled with raw emotion and beautifully designed melodies you NEED to see Marianas Trench live. Frontman, Josh Ramsay's stage presence and energy electrifies the crowd and makes for an incredible experience. 10/10 Did I mention they come out to mingle with the crowd after the show?! They are incredibly sweet, caring, and patient.

  • Absolutely amazing!!

by AnotherSheerio on 1/25/16Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I had very high expectations for this show, considering how talented I know Marianas Trench to be, and they certainly delivered! Although the venue did a poor job of organizing the VIP experience, I still had an amazing time meeting the band and attending the Q&A/Soundcheck. The setlist was amazing, and I was blown away by Josh's vocal ability. Can't wait to see them next time they come to Atlanta!

  • Hey You Guys Were Epic

by Jackthedog97 on 12/3/15Upstate Concert Hall - Clifton ParkRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Marianas Trench back in 2011 and was amazed by how good they performed live. For years, I have grown to absolutely love their music, be entertained by their music videos, and be in awe by how talented this group is. When I found out that they were going to Clifton Park, NY, my family and I instantly knew that we all knew we had to go, as we had all fallen in love with their music. The concert itself did not disappoint, but completely exceeded my expectations. This is not to say that I didn't expect much, because knowing Marianas Trench, I knew that they would put on an unforgettable show. But I was not mentally prepared for how hyped up their energy was throughout the show and the outfit Josh Ramsay was wearing. They made sure to play songs from their albums that were well-known and obviously well-liked, as everyone was screaming the lyrics along with the band. They had great stage presence and nice banter that was appropriate for in-between song preparation. Both the audience and Marianas Trench's energy was catching and made you want to sing along and dance hours after the show had ended. I would recommend this tour and seeing Marianas Trench in general to anyone and everyone. Even though the show was about a week ago, I look forward to getting to see them in concert yet again.

  • Speechless!

It was the most fun I have had in years! I cannot wait for them to come back and blow my mind again. The way they carry them self on stage, they are just perfect!

  • Great concert just ditch the lights

by CherylYB on 11/28/15The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the music. The light show was terrible. They shined lights in the audiences faces for at least the first third of the concert to the point where we couldn't see the band. Who likes having lights signed in their eyes? If it were not for that, I would have had a much better time. I recommend it because of the music, but the lights were terrible, the ones at the top shining out into our eyes as well as the other ones shining into our eyes. Too many lights. Ditch the lights!

  • Marianas Trench was awesome

    by OM17 on 11/28/15The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

They truly put a show together, amazing performance. Lead singer knows how to entertain the crowd and people were enjoying every second of it. They are a great band in general... and their voices, their voices are WOW. The opening band, secret someones were really amazing as well, the members were very entertaining as well and possess really great voices. Overall, I would so recommend the show to anyone.
