Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

  • Fiery Jams Served With A Side Of Sass

by sdmccoy on 7/25/16Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel" began and we knew it was only a matter of minutes left to wait...the song ended, the stage went dark & Ian entered first with his light-up drumsticks then followed Matt, Mike, & Josh with their badass clear light-up guitars. From the 1st song to the last, Mariana's Trench will leave you enthralled. Your face will ache from a constant smile; your legs will ache from non-stop dancing; your brain will be flooded with such feel good endorphins that any issues in your life are quickly forgotten. Mariana's Trench commitment to giving 110% night after night, tour after tour is the reason that I will travel any distance to catch one of their epic shows; that & Josh Ramsay's sass is straight fire. So take a moment to leave the modern world and all your troubles behind and travel back to the 80s with Mariana's Trench to a simpler time of catchy pop tunes mixed with guitar-based rock and harmonies so beautiful, they make angels weep.

  • The LED show was to die for.

    by Justice04682 on 7/20/16Masquerade - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Totally worth the money i saved to go. Their harmonies were nothing I've ever heard before; they were the best thing ever. The LED show was completely on point, it was phenomenal. Unforgettable! No doubt I'd shell out some serious cash to see them again. They interacted with the crowd, were funny, and were all around fantastic. Would STRONGLY recommend. Love them!!!! They sound JUST like their records and hearing him hit the high notes. Oh my. Just WONDERFUL!

  • AMAZING....once again

The guys were awesome. I loved their music and they related to the audience. I brought a friend who had never heard them before and I believe it's safe to say he is a big fan now. Keep the music coming and keep coming back to San Antonio. Loved it!!!

  • Best Concert I Have Ever Been To!

    by Mjw28 on 4/20/16Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Recently I got to attend the 'Never Say Die' Tour in Edmonton, as a VIP. Marianas Trench put on the most amazing show I had ever been too, and I've been to many many concerts. The stage presence of these 4 amazing musicians was almost too good to be true. Every single member just draws you in deeper and deeper, throwing in amazing technique as well as supporting vocals. The front man, (The most talented singer/songwriter in my opinion) Josh Ramsay, completely puts you in a trance with his absolutely stunning, and astonishingly powerful vocals; which can go to such a high register you can barely sing along. He also seemed to blow me away with how he can sing so amazing while flipping around like a mad man in a flying harness. Truly an amazing performance! Also meeting them was the best thing ever, they are so sweet!

  • Walk off the Earth puts on a great live show!

by Noniknme on 4/5/16Stampede Corral - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

We are not really fans of Marianas Trench, but we attended the show to see Walk off the Earth who opened for them. They put on a fantastic show! Lived up to their online performances! Would recommend they headline a tour soon!! The venue for this show was great, too.

  • by WOTE on 4/5/16Stampede Corral - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Unreal show. That guy can sing! Pyrotechnics were on point as well as the lighting show. For such a small venue, it was well worth the money!!

  • Oh my god.

    by TraciE911 on 3/28/16MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Marianas Trench was made for the big stage. Not only are they extremely talented musicians, but they have great stage presence. They try to interact with the crowd.

  • Marianas Trench & WOTE at ACC

by AFanInNorthTorontoWhoCann on 3/27/16Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

We were surprised and pleased at the unforgettable performance by both bands on March 22nd at the Air Canada Centre. While I was stuck behind two excited and very tall fans on the floor, I still managed to catch most of Walk Off the Earth's performance. They were full of energy and creativity though I thought the sound quality wasn't as good as MT's. They were also funny and interactive and my boyfriend, who didn't know much about this band, was impressed. Marianas Trench were the consummate performers. We were awed by the lead singer's amazing range, energy and passion. I've seen hundreds of bands and concerts and his vocal range and zeal is almost unmatchable. I also want to give a shout-out to the polite and patient security guards and staff people at the ACC. I noticed they found new seats for people who were having a hard time seeing the show. Kudos!

  • Marianas Trench put on a great performance!

by LuluGem on 3/18/16FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely loved both Walk Off the Earth and Marianas Trench. They are terrific live. Josh Ramsay has an amazing voice and vocal range. Both bands engaged at lot with the audience.

  • Incredible Show

by MsKhanada on 3/14/16FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Both Walk Off the Earth and Marianas Trench were fun and engaging. I would absolutely go see them both again in a heartbeat. WOTE are so talented - all of them play multiple instruments and sing and they have a very unique sound with not your average rock band instruments. MT - fantastic stage production and the harmonies they do live are ridiculously good. Go see them!

  • Unbelievable show

by MaggieLynne on 3/14/16FirstOntario Centre - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing concert ! Everyone was out of their seats! I was 5 rows from the stage but I truly felt he entire room was the same energy regardless of the seating! Marianas trench killed the show as always but I truly have to say ... Walk off the earth STOLE THE SHOW for me ! I've never experienced a performance half as creative and amazing as them! I would pay double to see them perform as the headliner any day of the week! Amazing show everyone was amazing !

I was very excited for this concert and overall it was good. However, the actual concert of marianas Trench started at 9pm which is after 2 hours the actual time that they supposed to start. Did not know if it was a concert for Marianas Trench or Walk off the Earth. But overall, was good

  • Mariana'sTrench and WOTE

    by Jenainay on 3/12/16Rogers K-Rock Centre - KingstonRating: 1 out of 5

We went specifically to see the opening act Walk Off the Earth and they did not disappoint! They are one talented group that creatively used all and anything as a music instrument!! They were a lot of fun, engaging, really got the crowd going even if the songs weren't familiar. Their energy and excitement was contagious! Their show was so electric and fun and talented I think they should've been the main show! Then came the main act Mariana's Trench. I love their songs but did not like their show. It was, in one word to describe, uncomfortably weird. This was not the show we were expecting. The lead, Josh, is energetic and flamboyant and loves putting on a show, which is great to see! But for me, I felt like I was watching a morph of David Bowie and Michael Jackson...on crystal meth. Even the sound wasn't overly clear to decipher and differentiate the popular longs from the rest.. They all kind of blended together. We stayed as long as we could, but did leave the show early, which I can't say I've ever done in my life. I will give them credit though, for being true to themselves, being unique and fearless of public opinion and passionate entertainers, it just wasn't our style or what we expected.

  • by Anonymous on 3/7/16Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I found this band while I was in high school, and this was the first time I had the opportunity to see them live. The show was amazing. It fully refreshed my feelings about this band. I loved it and 10/10 would recommend it to anyone. Not only was all of the music on point, but they were funny as well.

  • Amazing!!!!

by TrencherFreak on 2/21/16Deluxe at Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The Indy gig was incredible. The band was super into it despite near the end of the tour. The music was tight and I think every fan there knew all the words. They nail all those harmonies live. Lights, sound and video was great.
