    Great music - poor sound

by hitdaroad on 5/20/13Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Awesome line-up of musicians all playing together (for the most part). Great music including a mix of New Orleans jazz, zydeco, and blues. But the sound quality/acoustics at the Balboa Theater was not good - voices were muffled and hard to discern (other patrons on both levels had the same complaint).

Marcia Ball & friends -- great show!

by SmilinJack123 on 5/20/13Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Excellent show -- solid band with great guests. Marcia is an underrated keyboard talent, with a rollicking New Orleans boogie style, and she's amped up by the ever-exciting Cajun showman Simien. Cindy Cashdollar is one of the masters of the lap steel guitar, and brings an interesting new element to the instrumental mix. To have Sonny Landreth playing too, WOW, truly an "embarassment of riches", he being imo the god of the slide guitar. Pure heaven hearing Cindi and Sonny trading slide leads throughout the concert. And the sax guy is great too -- very melodic, pretty leads -- and solid drumming and bass backed up the band just right. However, sound quality wasn't great, thus 4 stars instead of 5. Midrange-heavy, missing high end made lyrics hard to understand, weak lows made bassist hard to hear. We've heard near-perfect sound at this venue other times (in the Loge), so don't know if the problem is due to our being farther back this time (in the Balcony), or poor sound equipment/engineering. But even with these issues, we had a great time!

Marcia and her band were awesome. Irritated that incorrect concert time printed on ticket and then we had to listen to so-so opening band. All that was forgotten when Marcia walked on stage.

Marcia and her band were great -- as always!

by jazzfestfans on 1/15/13Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

We love seeing Marcia and her band at New Orleans' Lafayette Park and Jazz Fest every year, but this was a real treat to see her in our home state, and in such an intimate setting, too! She and the band were awesome as always, but I did miss hearing "Power of Love," and was really disappointed by the audience, who lost interest after the second encore when you could see Marcia was ready for a third encore but the audience was ready to call it a night -- that was a bummer!

    Marcia Ball Is A Party!

by PVG8R on 1/14/13Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

What a great time! It is still unbelievable that many people still do not know Marcia Ball. In fact, I introduced three couples to her musical talent at this show. They were blown away! Marcia's energy and down to earth personality really wows the audience. An then she plays the hell out of the piano! This is the fourth time I have seen her over the past 10-12 years , here in Jax and New Orleans Jazz Fest, and it may have been her best performance yet. What a talent...what a show! I just can't wait to see her perform again.

Marcia Ball rocked Underground 119 in Jackson Saturday night. A cool venue, and Jackson LOVES Marcia Ball! Great performance! All of us old folks can still shake a tail feather!

    Great show

by tomfinga on 5/30/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Much more upbeat than the recordings. An absolute blast - and a surprise. Was expecting slower blues. Much more cajun than blues. Excellent sound and a great venue.

    Marcia Ball Band

    by Birdman216 on 5/14/11BB King's - New York CIty

Marcia was in great form at BB King's and her band was in sync with her the entire night. Damien Llanes and Don Bennett anchored the rhythm section through every song and Thad Scott wailed on sax while Mighty Mike Schermer tore into the guitar leads of each song. Marcia's voice was golden and her piano playing incorporates so many of my idols, like Katie Webster, James Booker and Professor Longhair, yet it remains uniquely her own. Her sense of humor and audience engagement make her shows something to see and always immensely enjoyable.

    Marcia Ball at BB Kings

by slikpapa on 4/11/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

as always, Marcia Ball put on a great show. she played for almost two hours, talked very little, and brought the house down. her band was superb, each a virtuoso on their instrument, and they all were clearly having a good time, which infected their playing and brought the audience along for the ride. if you have never seen this elegant lady in concert, you really should.

    Always a Great Show

by Nunz1 on 4/11/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Marcia Ball is simply the best. Always a great show. Wish BB Kings had no seating so we could have danced her music. Loved the new songs she played.

    Marcia is amazing!

by JMcNC on 4/9/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

I've seen Marcia twice before and she's never disappointed. This time she again blew the place away even though she had a dud crowd. The crowd at BBKing's was like something dumped off a bus from the "home". They just sat there until time for an encore then finally got into it. Marcia was absolutely amazing, her guitar player and sax man were as good as any I've ever heard. I'm a regular at jazz and blues concerts and this was as good as it gets. Love her.
