MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • The light show could have been way better

by SmokyMountainGirl on 12/30/24Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 3 out of 5

The music was good but the light show was lacking a lot. Also didn’t care for the video being shown behind the musicians. Was very disappointed considering the price of the tickets. TSO show is way better.

  • 5 stars .

  • Great Show

by DavidR on 12/30/24Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I have been to quite a few Manneheim shows, our first was over twenty years ago. It’s not quite the same with Chip and his early crew but the music is still great.

  • Enjoyed the music - visuals somewhat annoying at times

    by TimeTraveler51 on 12/30/24Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 4 out of 5

We enjoyed the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Concert in general. The music was great … however some of the visuals were distracting from the instrumental music. The rotating bright spotlights in the audiences eyes were really annoying … some of the other visuals complemented the music while some other visuals did not. All in all though we enjoyed the concert.

  • Great concert

by Herjewel on 12/30/24Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was magnificent. Just like sitting in my favorite recliner and listening to the Christmas music from Mannheim Steamroller. We really enjoyed the music and enjoyment

  • They had fun

by Jgg on 12/30/24Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 5 out of 5

We had front row seats and could see how much fun they were having playing their music. It really brought us into the show more, somehow. Excellent! Wholesome.

  • A little disappointed

by Steve on 12/30/24Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 4 out of 5

My third Mannheim Christmas concert. Music was good. Venue was terrible (Mississippi Coliseum). This act is much more enjoyable in a smaller venue.

  • Nice

by Christine on 12/29/24BJCC Concert Hall - BirminghamRating: 4 out of 5

The music was great! The videos that were in the back ground were awful! Esp the song Caroling Carols with the Lips talking and dancers ruined the song. I had to close my eyes and just listen . Drummer boy should have been a picture of the drummer boy playing for Jesus. Catching snowflakes on your tongue should have showed children playing outside trying to catch snowflakes on there tongue! Also I like it when someone introduces the name of each song. We had to keep looking at our program to figure out what song this was. Some people did not have a program so they entirely lost!!!Some songs we never heard of so it should have been introduced and how it came about. Until this show changes how they present there music I will not attend again or recommend it to others. There were a lot of empty seats so I guess others feel the same way.. As it stands now

  • So Much Mannheim Talent

  • Wonderful holiday event.

by TupeloDavid on 12/26/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 5 out of 5

This concert exceeded my expectations. I've been to many holiday concerts, including past Mannheim Steamroller concerts, and have to say this was top-notch. Anyone needing some Christmas spirit would be well served by attending a show like this.

  • A wonderful experience.

by Steve on 12/26/24Mountain America Center - Idaho FallsRating: 5 out of 5

The show by Mannheim Steamroller was fabulous. The artists were amazing. It set the tone for a wonderful Christmas season. We have gone home and listened to them over and over again. I look forward to seeing them again. The venue was terrific, except for maybe the traffic when leaving.

  • Wonderful Holiday Experience!

  • Disappointing

by Christmas elf on 12/25/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

I was expecting so much more! All the songs sounded the same. There was absolutely no special effects. I was expecting lights or something entertaining. The songs were lullabys. The man next to me slept the majority of the time. We left along with at least half of the audience at the intermission. I overheard people leaving saying it was a snooze fest. I will never go see them again.

  • Music was lovely, as usual.

by lcole on 12/25/24The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

Always enjoy a Mannheim concert, but it'd be great if they'd update the graphics/video accompaniment after all these years.
