About

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Don’t talk during the performance, please!

by Be quiet please! on 1/1/25Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I would have enjoyed it much more except for the people next to me and the people behind me talking constantly through throughout the performance. That makes it very hard to enjoy the music. The theater should remind everyone, at every performance, to silence their phones and to not talk or sing. We come to hear the artists whose job it is to entertain us, not your voice or your off-key attempt to follow the music!

  • Just as we remember them!

by Marilyn on 1/1/25Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Mannheim Steamroller two or three times, in Cleveland, OH, in the 80s. Though Chip wasn't present, the show was as up to par! We enjoyed it tremendously. My husband would have gone again, if there had been a matinee! (Offering a matinee would be my suggestion).

  • Best Orchestra ever

by Lady Di on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the evening they made toe music sing so sweet. Loved it. Third time to see them!

  • Great show

We really enjoyed the music, had a great time! The band was nice and a very talented group.

  • Fantastic.

by Sundog on 12/31/24Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 5 out of 5

This is my second Mannheim Steamroller concert. They are so awsome. I took a friend who was not familiar with them and she loved the concert. She now has a new outlook on Christmas music.

  • Great music but the visuals were a major detractor

by Stan on 12/31/24Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 3 out of 5

The music was excellent. The technical skill and showmanship of the band members was fun to watch. The only issue was that the visuals were very very cheesy and often distracting. There was a large screen behind the band and during most songs there was some kind of video playing. Most of the videos were grainy and felt like I was watching a VHS from the 80's. The quality of the videos aside, the video content was often very weird. One video featured a bunch of silhouettes of dancing women similar to the intro of a James Bond film with a giant pair of lips floating in space. Others featured a mideval court and a guy playing drums in the woods. The smoke and snow effects were also oddly timed. On the drive home all we could talk about was how strange the visuals were and not much about the music itself, which is probably not what the band wants. My family always loved this band but I'm not sure if I'd go again.

  • Very disappointed

by Nina on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 1 out of 5

Seems like most of it was prerecorded. No passions from the musicians. The picture show was distracting to the actual concert.

  • Excellent

by JMac on 12/31/24Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 5 out of 5

Exceeded expectations, a very talented group of musicians preforming quality music. The Adler theatre in Davenport has great acoustics, the sound quality was excellent and the seating was good. We definitely plan on going to their next concert when they are in town during the holiday season.

  • Holiday

by GCRozar on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful holiday experience! Looking forward to next year!

  • Ordinary Flashback

by KB on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 3 out of 5

The music was great, and I appreciate that MS incorporated local talent. The images and videos that appeared behind the musicians was often distracting. At times it felt like weird 80s-90s art, not necessarily matching the music. Images were highly secular, even with Christian Christmas songs.

  • Totally worth it!

by Rockerenee on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The albums come to life. The group was animated and really made it a great experience. Our entire family enjoyed it from my 9yo to my 88yo grandma. Just be prepared for some flashing lights and some shining in your eyes once in a while.

  • First Time Will Not Be Last

by First Christmas with Chip on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I gifted my mom who is a lifelong Mannheim fan tickets this year for Christmas. She had always wanted to go, but they never toured where she previously lived. It was the best gift ever! She and I enjoyed the show from start to finish! They are an amazing group of talented musicians and allowed us to extend our Christmas this year!

  • Great

    by 49Kaiser on 12/31/24Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 5 out of 5

Very different with fewer performers, light show, and video. Enjoyed with 7 family members paid for by grandpa!

  • Amazing Concert

by Nance on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Attending a Mannheim Steamroller concert is an annual tradition. My husband and I love them and look forward to it each year! They changed things up a bit this year and it was even better than ever! Highly recommend!!

  • Mannheim Steamroller is the experience of a lifetime.

    by roadking4me2 on 12/31/24Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 5 out of 5

Mannheim Steamroller completely roller over any event I have ever attended. The quality of the musicians and the creativity of Chip Davis was beyond belief. Each arrangement shown with brilliance and sparkle. Any chance you ever have to attend a performance or purchase their music should not be passed up.The Adler Theater itself was well staffed, with easy free parking right across the street. I saw this show also in Rockford, Illinois at the Coronado Theater and I must say the accoustics and atmosphere at the Coronado was superior. Ticketmaster was convenient (once a first-timer figured it out,) and Will-Call for picking up tickets was a breeze.

  • Mannheim Steamroller

by PB on 12/31/24Adler Theatre - DavenportRating: 4 out of 5

It was a nice holiday concert. My guest had not seen them before. I saw them 20 years ago. Not much change. Percussion was a bit over the top.

  • Disappointing

by Huntsville on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Music was ok.. Pianists and percussionist were great, extremely talented. The overall show was not very good. No interaction with the audience except the first minute of introductions. Disappointing. Could have easily listened to streaming at home. We do not plan to attend another performance with this group.

  • Annual event

by HSVRob on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Always enjoy Mannheim Steamroller coming to Huntsville. We strive to make this an annual family event.

  • A good experience

by Neal on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Sounds just like the recording. Played about 26 songs, three from non Christmas albums. About 2 hrs 5 minutes start to finish

  • Can’t wait till next year!

by Abby on 12/31/24VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

It was such a lovely and beautiful evening. Time passes so quickly for me during these concerts. Also, the VBC staff were so very kind and helpful.
