MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Fantastic!!

by DLewis on 11/15/25Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

Although I had enjoyed their music for many years, this was first time attending a concert. I was enthralled and amazed at the talent of the musicians! It was a wonderful experience and my husband enjoyed as well.

  • It was wonderful.

    by VTims2 on 11/15/25Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

The venue isis small enough that there is no bad seats. The music was wonderful. You could hear it fine with no distortion. The stage and lighting pulled you into the music.

  • Discordant, grating awful noise!

by Sue on 11/15/25Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 1 out of 5

Left early. Terrible cacophony of nerve irritating noise. Instruments often out of balance with drums overshadowing everything. Keyboard at times out of key.

  • A treat for my mom

My mom has enjoyed the MSR for years. I am glad I finally got her to a show! We had a good time.

  • Manheim Steamroller Spectacular Effects

by Gerry on 2/28/25E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 4 out of 5

Got to our seats just before the show began. We parked quite a way from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse because we did not want to pay the going rate of $160 and instead found $15 parking a 15 minute walk away. The special effects were spectacular throughout the performance. Our seats were on the third level and we could see the multi-colored laser beams filling the vast volume of the Fieldhouse. There were gas jets the periodically lit up both sides of the stage in synchrony with the music and singing that we could feel the heat of even though we were at the back quarter of the Fieldhouse. The performance went for over two hours. The story within the performance was engaging, but would have been better if there had been a larger screen in the center above the stage instead of the rather narrow screens on the left and right of the stage. Looking forward to seeing Maneim Steamroller again and buying tickets earlier.

  • Wonderful

My son is a huge fan of Mannheim Steamroller; so when I saw that they were performing close to home, I knew that would be a perfect Christmas gift. We totally enjoyed the concert! The venue was great ... really not a bad seat in the house. The music was festive and the musicians were fantastic!! One of the best concerts my son and I have been to.

  • Amazing seats, to an unbelievable show.

by John on 1/3/25E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

The venue is amazing. Parking was right across the street, the seats are comfortable, and I can't wait to go back there. Now, the show. Go see Manheim Steamroller. The music was arranged magically, the instrumentals were fun, and there was one surprise after another. Remember these are Christmas songs, but you've never heard them like this before. I went to their last show of 2024. Didn't miss it next year.

  • Bakance

by Walt on 1/2/25E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was great. One thing I do want to mention, the audio balance was off. The percussion section was too loud. It drowned out the rest of the orchestra.

  • Always a beautiful evening with Mannheim

by OhioTechyDude on 1/2/25E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

We have attended their Christmas concerts three times and each is a Holiday pleasure. The classic mixed with the upbeat/rock combined with the visuals is a 'treat' for the sensors. This is one timeless experience we'll enjoy again and again.

  • Mannheim Steamroller

An amazingly awesome concert - The music and special effects were wonderful. We have been fans of Mannheim Steamroller for a very long time.

  • Great music but

by P. Rowe on 1/2/25Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The performance/music was great, the visuals not so much. The visuals on the screen often did not seem to match the tune that was being played or were just weird (example, the multiple mouths during Carol of the Bells). They also seemed a bit dated - 80s or 90s styles. The flashing lights would occasionally shine directly into our eyes forcing some of us to cover them with our hands but that might be a venue thing.

  • It was an experience

by Live music fan on 1/2/25E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 1 out of 5

Definitely an experience. I do love live shows and music. Mannheim Steamroller was interesting. The music wasn't bad but there was little show or showmanship. It was more like a high school christmas concert or a larger bar act. I maybe had too high of, or possibly different, expectations but the crowd seemed to really enjoy and react positively. I personally just didn't care much for it, it seemed to me as a band playing mostly familiar music with their own twist. The musicians were talented but the accompanying video and lighting was dated and made me think of the 80's. The venue is good, other than I have always thought there should be a center aisle or two as there is only access from the ends and you have to crawl across and shimmy past people to access interior seats. I have seen several show at E J Thomas hall through the years and all things considered, I would not hesitate seeing another.

  • Amazing

Amazing show. All four of us attending agreed that this was a wonderful event. Hope to see them again.

  • Mannheim Steamroller

by Laurela on 1/2/25E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 4 out of 5

As always, truly enjoyed Mannheim Steamroller concert. I’ve been to previous concerts in Cleveland. What didnt impress me much was the E.j. Thomas Hall in Akron for this concert. Pros were parking was good, but try the elevator? What a hold up! Attendees were lacking and somewhat robotic in directing people to their seating and short comings in the over all acoustics. Won’t mention restroom access for women on bottom floor ( basement). Men’s on main floor. Hmmm? Anyways just me.

  • Great show!!!

by Bob on 1/2/25E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - AkronRating: 5 out of 5

We had a great time!!! Mannheim Steamroller (Red Team) put on a great show, lights and visual display were as good as the music was too. Will be a part of our Christmas tradition so long as they tour in our area.

I took my aunt. I was her first time. She was overwhelmed.

  • Fantastic concert

by Paul on 1/1/25Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5

From the opening downbeat, Mannheim was wonderful. The selections were excellent and the performances of the musicians displayed their expertise. We had attended their concert three years ago and this one was even better! I look forward to seeing them again!

  • True Holiday Treasure

by KY girl on 1/1/25Lexington Opera House - LexingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I have been listening to them for years, but had never seen them in person. The show is fabulous, they play all their classics. I appreciated that the show was energetic and fresh, even though they had to be tired as this was their penultimate performance for the season. Great way to wind down the holiday season.

  • Great show

All of the players were very precise, professional, and the music was heartwarming. The song selection was excellent.
