About

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Manheim Steamroller--Awesome Show

by Emporia on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaRating: 5 out of 5

What an awesome show! The music was all that we expected--- and more. The time just flew by as it seemed that we had just sat down and it was intermission and then it was the end. The music just grabbed hold of the soul and wouldn't let go. No wonder that they have survived and prospered for 25 years. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME.

The show was everything I hoped it would be. The Christmas music was beautiful. I expecially liked their rendition of White Christmas, Winter Wonderland, and, of course, my all-time favorite, Hallelujah.

The show was fabulous! My seats were great and the show was fantastic. Had a large, drunk guy sitting next to me, and he made snotty comments about not enjoying the show. He is crazy, because the show was great!

Loved the music and was thrilled that M-S would be in Topeka. TPAC is a great venue for an event such as this. Not so big that the music was lost in space.

The entire concert was excellent. It was 2 hours but it certainly didn't seem that long. I could have listened for another 2 hours. Their sounds are amazing.

  • Don't miss Mannheim Steamroller: Christmas

by MDYM on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaRating: 4 out of 5

As a long time fan of Mannheim Steamroller, I knew every note of every song. But being there to hear their live concert was even better than I expected. A few little notes tossed in to entertain added the unexpected change that made it memorable. Seeing the performers live just adds a dimension that can't be achieved with recorded music. It was worth every penny!

I was really disappointed in the performance. The music was good, but I could have experienced the same thing from listening to a CD. There just wasn't any thing really exciting about the performance.

One of the best concerts I have ever been to. The attendees were well mannered and did not interrupt by during the concert.

  • Mannheim Steamroller dated

by zwyx on 11/15/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 3 out of 5

Can't hold a candle to Transiberian Orchestra. Use of images not well done. Having no director distracting. Drummer was outstanding and highlight of group. First vocal song was too soft to hear, words indistinguishable, should have been cut. The recorders were very good. Bass guitar good. Would have liked some more guitars and heavy metal sounds. Some selections boring. i.e. Carol of the Birds.

The threatre is magnificent - not a bad seat in the house, acoustics wonderful and Chip Davis is brilliant, the band unforgettable (I purchased a CD and plan to buy more). The staff pleasant. I had wine before and sat in the lobby and enjoyed the ambiance. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you.
