MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

Mannheim Steamroller delivers another great performance blending new and old music into their Christmas concert. The sound was exceptional however, for the best viewing expeirence floor seating sections provide the best vantage point.

The music was great, just as I expected. I could listen to their music all year. They bring a new dimension to Christmas songs. This was our first time to the Mahaffey theatre and a very pleasant experience

  • Unbelievable

My wife and I have been enjoying Mannheim Steamroller for years on cd and this was the first time we saw them live.....wow what a show!!!!! The venue had perfect acoustics and the show was awesome!!!!!

  • Mannheim Steamroller was a disappointment. . .

by Katie52 on 11/15/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 3 out of 5

I was extremely disappointed in the concert. I have listened to their CD's for years and loved the music but in concert, it just didn't measure up. The guy who sang should not be singing at all and his performance was at best amateurish. The video show was distracting and cheesy. I had to ask the man next to me to stop taking movies with his phone. It was extremely annoying and rude. He acted like I was out of line for asking him to stop!

  • Awesome

Mannheim Steamroller presented an excellent Christmas Show-a wonderful way to begin the season. The TPA is an outstanding venue for such entertainment. The City of Topeka is lucky to have it as part of the cultural amenities.

  • The Christmas Music of Mannheim Steamroller

by Diernance on 11/15/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

This performance was phenomenal- better than I anticipated. The music is wonderful on a CD but when you see a live performance, it is really so much richer and you can appreciate the sounds and melody even more so. A truly wonderful evening and one I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys this talented group.

This is the third time I've seen them -- it was wonderful. Our seats were high, high up in the balcony -- great seats, but there was no air moving up there. It got a bit warm!!

Mannheim Steamroller was FABULOUS. It was the perfect way to being the Christmas Season. Beautiful music still echoing in my mind. The acoustics in Mahaffey Theater are excellent.

My husband and I don't go out much, we enjoyed the concert so much. The music and lights show was amazing. The movies they had to go with the music were so cute. Over all the music was wonderful we were so pleased to be able to go see Mannheim Steamroller.

The concert was amazing. Although it brought back many sad memories, I would attended again. Wonderful performance.

  • Great concert! City stumbled again.

by TedCon on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was great. I thoroughly enjoyed the music and highley recommend seeing Mannheim to everyone. Unfortunately, the City of Topeka did it's usual poor job of supporting the well attended event. The parking garage accross the street was closed. Once we discovered that, half the side streets we took to try to find a parking spot were closed for construction. We started out early but ended up almost late to the concert and pretty frustrated.

This is the third Mannheim Steamroller concert we've attended, and they just keep getting better and better! What a great way to start the Christmas season! We would love to make this an annual tradition for as long as they'll keep coming back!

The music was excellant. I felt some of the background displays were distracting during the show. This was my first visit to TPAC. What a lovely facility.

  • Christmas Entertainment

by Caprise on 11/15/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the concert and light show. I've watched MS on television so I was determined to see them live this year. It was a really nice way to kick off the Christmas Season and get in the holiday mood early. It was very nice of MS to sign autographs after the show. At times the lights were shining directly in our eyes and we had to close them. This was the first time I went to Mahaffey Theater and I was impressed by the upscale ambience. The construction and parking was not the horror I expected. In fact it was very easy getting in and out of the parking garage.

  • What a way to start the holidays!

Life is good because Mannheim Steamroller fill the theater and the audience with joy for the season! It will make it easier to get through the upcoming hub bub with their glorious music in my ears!

  • Family Tradition

by Brarian on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaRating: 4 out of 5

They have not lost anything over the years - a great kickoff to the holiday season. Our family went to the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas show the year after their first Christmas album came out. We went every year until our kids left home. Now we have restarted this tradition. I hope they continue so we can organize the family around their concert - with ALL the grandchildren.

Good concert; would recommend. Music was excellent for those who like Christmas music or music with a Celtic flair.
