MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Mannheim Steamroller was as usual awesome!!!!!!!

by CJGR1 on 11/18/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first time that I have actually seen Mannheim Steamroller in concert and they were everything I thought they would be and better. I have loved their music for years and listen to it all year long not just at Christmas. The entire group is so talented and it shows and you can tell they love what they do, and that makes it so much more enjoyable for the audience. This is not my first and last concert, I will travel to the closest venue to see them now... for sure.......

  • Stunning performance

Best concert I've ever attended. Hope they come back next year.

I bought tickets as a surprise for my Mother. I really thought I would be bored at the least. These accomplished Musicians blew me away. I am so sorry I didn't buy tickets for the floor instead of the balcony. If they ever come back to Mobile, Alabama or even close I will be there. I am so looking forward to seeing them again!

  • Everything I expected it to be!

The music was wonderful. The quality was as good as my CD's I have of them. The sound system was great. The only negative I had was the food concession stands. Not much selection, and not tasty.

  • Manheim Steamroller 25 years later

by labeachgal58 on 11/18/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

I first saw the Christmas show in 1985 in Des Moines, Iowa. Anticipating the enjoyment of the first show, I was truly looking forward to twenty-five years later, in Mobile, Alabama. Knowing my love of Manheim, my parents bought tickets for all of us as part of our Christmas presents. So with my husband, my folks (all of us Gulf Shores, AL) and my 19 year old son (who is a music major at the University of South Alabama (Mobile) we attended this concert Tuesday night. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, even the adult men who were unsure of what to expect were duly impressed! I know my son would enjoy the Manhiem experience as my Fresh Aire CD went to college last year (the first CD known as Fresh Aire I, to many, that is not a Christmas CD). If you attend, do not leave early! Those who left during the encore to miss the traffic missed a spectacular treat!!

Most unusual misical mixture I have ever heard. The Medieval Rock , as I call it, is most relaxing and stimulating at the same time.

  • Loved the encores

We had a great time and would see them again. The seats are really uncomfortably close together.

  • Mannheim Steamroller Christmas - Totally Amazing!

by Hobno on 11/18/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

This is THE concert I have been hoping to see, year after year. With unbelievable luck, they announced a show here in Mobile! With all that this area has gone through in the past several years, we truly needed this concert to uplift our holiday spirits! Thank you for such an amazing concert! Each and everyone played with such love that it just flowed into the audience. Each artist was truly amazing. Such great video backgrounds that made you feel as if you were emersed into the scenes. I certainly hope this will be the first of many more years of coming to this area with your Christmas concert!! I can't say thank you enough for giving me one of my most favorite Christmas wishes! Thank you for sending us the West Coast team - loved them!!! Please come back next year!!

Mannheim Steamroller: Christmas was a great concert. Very energetic, can't wait until the next one.

I had never seen Mannheim Steamroller before, and I expected more energy from the group. I enjoy interaction with the audience, revealing some personality of the members -- this concert offered very little. I understand the quiet music is some of their trademark, however, there are several songs they could have had fun with ... I didn't feel it.

  • Mannheim was awesome!

Worth every penny and more! We had tickets last time the group was coming to Topeka and then concert was cancelled. We are thrilled that they finally came back to Topeka. Wonderful evening of beautiful music. What a way to start the holiday season! Thank you Chip Davis and Mannheim Steamroller!

The lighting effects were out of this world, absolutely stunning. It was everything I had ever imagined and then some! 15 minute encore performance was much much more than I anticipated! I will definitely be seeing Mannheim Steamroller again!

  • Mannheim Steamroller: Christmas

by ctabor on 11/16/10Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - GainesvilleRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 2nd time we have seen Mannheim Steamroller Christmas. It was a little early this year, but no December dates by where we live. The music in the 2nd act was much better than the first and the encore was exceptional. The core group of musicians are a pleasure to watch and listen to.

  • Joyful! Joyful! I adored you!

by Keefersmom on 11/16/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

From a Christmas standpoint, I was ready to go home and get out the decorations immediately! From an entertainment standpoint, I was pleased with the variety of images. And from a musician's standpoint, I was awestruck! The arrangements are fabulous, of course. The familiar, mixed with new pieces made for a great listening lineup. Each of the main instrumentalists were virtuosi in his own right. My personal favorites were, "White Christmas", "Silent Night", and "Hallelujah". Even Handle would have been ecstatic about that tasteful arrangement, I believe. Wow, and more Wow!

  • Fabulous show!

by Liffey on 11/16/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

This concert exceeded all expectations! It was fabulous. Would go again in a heartbeat. Their music is exceptional as are the musicians who play such spectacular instruments.

  • Mannheim Steamroller was outstanding!

by Granite007 on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaRating: 5 out of 5

The music was awesome. The performers were great to watch and seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. It was also nice having it at TPAC. It wouldn't have had the same, intimate feel if it had been at a much larger facility.

  • Enchanting

I was in the 2nd row center and the sound and music was incredible. Very relaxing, and not to theatrical.
