MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

Mannheim Steamroller was AMAZING. This is by far the greatest concert I've ever been to.

  • Music was great - show was "hokey"

by kkhkkhkkh on 11/19/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 3 out of 5

I have to say, it wasn't what I was expecting. I had heard that the show itself was amazing - not so, in my opinion - however, the music itself was spectacular-

Every song they played and displayed was just like you were there at the time of filming. So much enthusiasm by the performers, truly a must see event

Music and performance was tremendous. The panoramic scenes in the back ground added to the flair of the evening.

I saw Mannheim in Kansas City many years ago. I will never get tired of listening to the wonderful music from this group. Truly amazing.

  • Mannheim Steamroller was the BEST!!!!

by SCHMobile on 11/18/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

I loved every minute of the performance. The muscians are so talented and seemed to be really enjoying themselves. The background visuals were very entertaining. When I realized that the show was almost over, I got really sad. Imagine my surprise when then gave a very long encore -- three songs. This was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. I hope they return to Mobile soon.

Not really much to say other than outstanding. Very much worth the price of admission.

We loved the concert. We sat in the balcony and it was just fine. I've been humming Christmas music ever since we attended. Now I feel ready for the Christmas.

  • Surprising, Disappoionting

by Anonymous on 11/18/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 3 out of 5

For a company who only exists because of Chriatmas, it is hard tobelieve that the so called light show did not show one manger, stable, 3 wise kings, nothing about the true Christmas. The PC has gone to far. i was very disappointed in the "light show"

  • Mannheime Steamroller was fantastic

by 23229A on 11/18/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

This was probably one of the best programs we have seen in the Civic Center Theater. The entire evernt went off without a hitch and the signings of DVDs by the artists in the lobby later enabled everyone to personally extend their appreciation, beyond what was displayed by applause during the show. This was a program I would definately attend again and hope it will be repeated in 2011..

  • Mannheim Steamroller was an amazing experience!

by ffejjyam on 11/18/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

I recently have had the opportunity to see several bands in concert in my area. They were all great in their own way, band playing, singers singing, lights flashing, but the Mannheim Steamroller Concert was different in several ways from any other. First, there was very little singing because that's not what they do. Second, the fact that they have been doing this for 25 years makes them the ultimate in professional performers. But, when you add the amazing video choreography, it was indeed an "experience" instead of just a concert! An experience by the way that leaves you very much ready for Christmas!

  • Mannheim Steamroller was awesome!

  • Marvelous!!

by jmike148 on 11/18/10Mobile Civic Center Theater - MobileRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first time that I was able to see them in concert. I listen to their CDs every Christmas. Their music is amazing. The 6 regular members were superb! Chip Davis' renditions of classical Christmas music is so different than the contemporary music we normally hear. The performers were enthusiastic and very moving. My sister-in-law and I totally enjoyed the performance. If an opportunity presents itself, I would go again.

Excellent and very personal concert. The Mobile venue is fairly small and it provides an intimate setting. Highly recommended event. The live concert puts a different perception on the enjoyment of your Mannheim Steamroller CD collection.
