MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Mannheim Steamroller in Greensboro

by GrumpyInGSO on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

I would rate this performance as six stars, if I could. The music was amazing as a live performance. The musicians were talented, versatile, and seemed to love their jobs. The hall was sold out with Steamroller fans, so there was a sense of kinship, which enhanced the experience. I am a fan, yet they exceeded my expectations. I LOVED IT!

  • 25 Yr Manheim Christmas Encore was Awesome!!!

Great music. 3 of the best songs were a surprise in the encore. A big hit

  • Manheim Steamroller Rocks!

by DougEBee on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

The show was top notch. Great music, great effects, and super performances. The venue sold out and while that is not a problem normally, this venue was inadequate. Only one set of restrooms made for long lines, musty smells permiated the area and the seats were very uncomfortable. Thankfully the show was so good, it kept my mind off of the other negatives.

I thought the production was very seamless and the musicians were fantastic.

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed their show at War Memorial and would definitely recommend the concert. We would also go see them again in the future!!!

  • Mannheim Steamroller was just incredible!

    by Sally4 on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was amazing.....obtaining tickets was so easy, and I printed them. This particular concert was just wonderful.....I do hope that we can get them back next year. The music, of course, is memorable but the "team" that performed our concert was just great. I had a wonderful time and want to see them again. As always, everybody connected with the War Memorial Auditorium was helpful, courteous and efficient.

THis was the second time for us to see them in concert. Enjoyed the event more in St. Louis when we saw it a few years ago. Very predictable.

  • Mannheim Steamroller kicks off Christmas Season

by Anotherone on 11/23/10Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 5 out of 5

Every moment of the concert was a joy. The videos displayed as a back drop enhanced the performance. I remembered some of the videos well from television. Others I viewed for the first time. We didn't want the music to end.

  • Manheim Performed Well

by rocg on 11/23/10Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 4 out of 5

It may not have been their most stellar performance, but it was wonderful nonetheless. After 25 years I finally attended a performance; and I wasn't disappointed. There was perhaps too much space between songs and the bass on the grand piano must have been playing through a blown speaker because it was unpleasant and shook the audience. The facility in which they played left a lot to be desired. There was no one at the doors to help you find your way to the seats. Once we took our seats on the floor (premium price) they were very uncomfortable metal chairs. Then too, the restrooms were a mess (the ladies restroom had some stalls unusable). But the music and performance was grand and it was a very entertaining 2 hours.

  • Mannheim Steamroller was disappointing!

    by LuLu55 on 11/23/10Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 2 out of 5

The sound was wonderful, but the production was low budget. A few lights and a screen in the background showing videos. I have paid a lot less for concert tickets and gotten a lot more!!! Too expensive for what you get

First half was OK. Second half was outstanding. The first half was too soft ND NEEDS SOME ACTION.

What a way to start the Christmas season! We had bought several of the Christmas CD's (lost some in Katrina, but again now have Christmas, Fresh Aire, and Extraordinaire. Nothing, though, like experiencing it live!! Magnificent!

Have loved Mannheim for MANY years, both their regular and their Christmas music. It was such a pleasure to see them in person and experience the magic of their music. A must see.

The show was outstanding the only issue that I had was the seating arrangments.

Absolutely beautiful music! Great performers and very exciting show.

  • Real Holiday Music

    by Winkle01 on 11/23/10Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 4 out of 5

It was great to hear the Mannheim Steamroller in person after enjoying their recordings for so many years. Not only was the show visually exciting; the music was excellent, well arranged, and supported well by members of our own Mississippi Symphony. I was delighted that the balance and volume were well controlled - I hate getting permanent hearing damage at concerts and movie theaters. No lasting personal injury sustained here, just beautiful and compelling holiday music. Now I'm ready for the season! Peace on Earth, Y'all!

The Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CD's have been some of my favorites for years! It was a rare treat to see them in person. I am just sorry that Chip can no longer tour with them. I hope they come back to Jackson!
