MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Low Energy

by IndyguyinEvansville on 11/24/10The Centre - EvansvilleRating: 3 out of 5

The show just did not have the energy that I expected from Mannheim Steamroller. The sound was marginal. The musicians were talented (really liked Becky) but the show seemed half done for an $80 ticket

Great music! Played everything we wanted to hear and more!

Excellent music with just the right balance of technology and music.

  • WOW!!!

by Pathilda on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best concert I have ever attended. It was so uplifting and really puts you in the mood for the upcoming Holidays. I went by myself and as I left the venue I kept hearing people say it was by far the BEST concert ever. The lighting and special effects were amazing. I will go again!!

  • Mannheim Steamroller was very good

by geeminey on 11/24/10CenturyTel Center - Bossier CityRating: 4 out of 5

The Steamroller was very good. The 2nd half of the show was outstanding. It rocked a little more than the first. Greensleeves (1st set) and Carol of the Bells (2nd set) were more than outstanding. Overall, a very good show. While they don't rock it quite like TSO, they are excellent performers with a good chemistry on stage. Although I am not a Christmas person at all, a good Mannheim Steamroller concert has helped me get in the spirit a little more. The closing number was performed behind the closed curtain, which was a little strange, but it basically prevented a 2nd encore and was their signature song. The curtain was somewhat transparent, so the total effect was not lost. I was very disappointed in the small crowd, which may affect their decision to return in the future. It did make for a better experience, since I did not have to wrestle with a huge crowd to get back on the road afterwards. I would highly recommend Mannheim Steamroller in concert. Not a typical classical music performance at all. They do rock it out some and it was very enjoyable.

  • The CD's are better

by RichardSG on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

I was expecting to be "wowed" by both the music and the "show" but neither happened. The musicians were all good players but I did not see the performance that I was hoping for and expecting. We bougth tickets early and paid a lot for them; only to find out that we had two kindergarden age children sitting behind us with Mom and Grandma. Their squirming around and on / off crying did nothing to help the evening either. I will not go see them again.

Was anticipating a FANTASTIC musical concert ! Just before we went, I checked online for OTHER reviews, and saw some reasonably negatives..Like "skeleton band" etc...WELL, we had 5 or 6 MAIN musicians (multi instrumentalists) AND about 15-20 backup, whom you couldn't really see because you weren't supposed to see them....Music and video effects were outstanding....AND after the "official" program, they played 5 of the numbers that weren't on the program, but everyone wanted to hear anyway! Go because you LOVE the music, anything over and above is a bonus! PS--It was a sold-out night! Glad we got the tickets VERY early....Like 2 months in advance!

  • excellent

loved it - Mannheim is so wonderful. The acoustics in the MS Coliseum are not the greatest, so would have sounded even more dynamic in an auditorium.

  • Everything we expected from Mannheim Steamroller

by RickDMedic on 11/24/10CenturyTel Center - Bossier CityRating: 5 out of 5

Being familiar with Mannheim Steamroller, we were not disappointed. Combining well arranged favorites with a bit of playfulness, Mannheim Steamroller provided listeners with their first dose of Christmas spirit for 2010. This troop of performers mesmerized the audience with world favorite Christmas tunes in Steamroller style. Every completion of an arrangement was met with a brief moment of quiet appreciation followed by thunderous applause. This show is one that I would recommend for all ages. They were very gracious and appreciative of the audience.

What a wonderful way to start the Holiday Season!! Music was wonderful and sound was perfect!! The sound did NOT overpower the venue as so many do. Would highly recommend this show to ALL.

  • Mannheim Steamroller - Just the best!

by psrman on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

Whether you have had the opportunity to see them previously or not, this current tour is excellent - it gives the attendee the true essence of the Christmas Music of Mannheim Steamroller for over two hours. With a 20 song published set along with 3 encore songs, the long standing ovation was well deserved.

  • Mannheim Steamroller 25 years

by JamestownJohn on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

One word "Fantastic", but the review requires more characters, so, there wasn’t one song that we didn’t like and the Silent Night encore was especially moving. Bravo to the five and the backup orchestra.

  • Good but...

by boowhoo on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

good but...I wish you had performed more of the Christmas carols we know and loved like were on your albums...the Fresh Air segments with the 14-16th century reenactments on video were okay but tour best and most spirited work was the few carols you performed. If it is billed as CHRISTMAS...let's have more carols.

  • Mannheim concert very average

by rifsberja on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

Mannheims troupe did not translate well to a live performance. The sound mix did not help either as the drum over powered the performance. First six songs of second set were good. Could have been a lot better. The show and band really love themselves. Much of it was like a commercial for Mannheim.

  • Absolutely Fantastic!

    by dhsbigp98 on 11/24/10CenturyTel Center - Bossier CityRating: 5 out of 5

Great concert. From the first note to the last just outstanding musical talent displayed! I would recommend anyone to see Mannheim Steamroller in concert at least once in their lifetime.
