MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Mannheim Steamrooler

    by donotknowwhatyouwant57 on 11/25/10CenturyTel Center - Bossier CityRating: 2 out of 5

Group was not very organized on stage at times and seems to act as if their time in Bossier at CenturyTel was not an important stop for them. The videos shown along with their program were boring and poor quality. Some of the Music was good but some of it seemed out of time and tone.

  • Wonderful Show

    by Mannheim2010 on 11/25/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

Have been a fan of Steamroller for many years but they never came close enough to go see. Finally they did and it was a fantastic show. I could have sat there all night and listened to them play. They show was well worth the money.

  • An evening with Mannheim Steamroller

by sandlover on 11/25/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 3 out of 5

I love my Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CD's but the concert was slightly disappointing. A little too much minstral type music for my liking and the video that was shown during those tunes was pretty corny. I would have enjoyed the concert better without the theatricals and the light show, which the Saenger is really too small for. Also a little too much bass sometimes. I felt it vibrate though me. I will continue to listen to the CD's, but would skip the concert next year if they return to Pensacola.

Videos on the screen did not always have anything to do with the music. They were too goofy and didn't add much.,

  • Mannheim Steamroller Was Superb!!!!

    by Moose409 on 11/25/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

I have been collecting Mannheim Steamroller music since they first started but had never been to one of their concerts. The one Tuesday at the Sanger in Pensacola absolutely blew me away. That the music was fabulous goes without saying. What surprised and pleased me most was the stage presence they had and the relationship they established with the audience. They very obviously were having a great time up there and they shared it with us. It was contagious and spread through the house. If they come ANYWHERE near you, go see them! You will get back much more than the ticket price......

Mannheim Steamroller was wonderful! The music was great, as always, and the effects were simple, yet enhanced the experience. All my children of various ages had a great time. The musicians also seemed to have lots of fun; you could tell they were enjoying themselves by their manner and comments between songs. I hope they come back next year because we will definitely go back.

  • Merry Mannheim Christmas!

The sounds and energy surrounded us. I heard the music I've loved for many years in a whole new way. I especially enjoyed the way the musicians were so audience-friendly. It was as though they came to play for friends and family. Perfect venue for Mannheim!

Terrific! They were even better than expected, highly recommend and will attend again in the future!

Music was great but the film and pictures projected were horrible. The film was grainy and looked like home movies. This took away the class of the performance. More effort placed on artistic attention should have been made to enhance the performers.

  • Guess I expected more

by GrammyFan on 11/25/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

Concert was much shorter than I expected, and definitely not as glitzy as I had hoped. Overall the music was fine, but preferred arrangements where more percussion and horns were involved. Partially disappointed, and partially pleased. Also thought the "original" band would be there, and not the 2nd arm of the band.

  • Mannheim Steamroller was super magical.

by BigEth on 11/24/10CenturyTel Center - Bossier CityRating: 5 out of 5

Music was all I expected and more. Excellent musicians. THe only thing that could have been better was the visual presentation. It may have been the venue, but I thought the visuals weren't as sharp and technically advanced as they could be. Maybe they need to be updated some. Truthfully, though, I was there to hear the music and admire the musicianship and I was not disappointed.Ha

Christmas music great! Other music odd and distasteful.

  • Mannheim Steamroller was incredible

by Brina2010 on 11/24/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaRating: 5 out of 5

Every aspect of the performance was excellent. The sound was incredible, just like they sound on their CDs. The lights and video screen added to the overall atmosphere.

  • Mannheim was amazing!!

  • Manheim Steamroller was very disappointing

by orangecamel on 11/24/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 3 out of 5

The first set was very slow and boring. The second set was much better and more upbeat. I have 4 of their CD's and really enjoy their music. However, I would not go see them in concert again.

  • Musically magical-visually boring

The music was magical. The videos left something to be desired. I expected some type of lighting event.
