MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

This venue is very nice, its not too large or too small. Getting there was very easy. Thoroughly enjoyed the show.

I've waited since 1984 for Mannheim Steamroller to appear in the Bossier City/Shreveport area. The show was all I expected and more. My only regret was my husband was not alive to finally see them. Thanks for a great show

  • Mannheim Steamroller was the bomb!!!!

by Riutz on 11/26/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

They were AWESOME!!!!!!! So much better than I even expected they would be. The music was wonderful and the screen behind the stage added so much to the overall enjoyment of the evening. The drummer was fantastic and he was so much fun to watch. I would definately go again when they come back to Pensacola.

even better than I'd hoped for....the presentation was exceptional, the music familar but still new and original and the audience in a packed concert hall was capitivated!

  • Mannheim Steamroller: Christmas

Music was outstanding, thoroughly enjoyable and would highly recommended for anyone to see this show at least once..

  • Took my breath away

So well worth every penny for the tickets. Can't wait for them to come back so I can go again. Couldn't take my eyes away from the stage, the music and lights were so amazing. I love the videos running in the background.

  • Must see once

    by martin10056a on 11/26/10Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 4 out of 5

The music was beautiful but nothing you could not have heard on one of their albums or seen on public tv. I guess I am just one of those who prefers to listen in the comfort of my own living room.

  • Mannheim Steamroller: See 'em if you can!!

    by rlc3 on 11/26/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

Great show! They did a fantastic job of recreating the music from the albums. I've been a fan of theirs since the late 70's when I first heard Fresh Aire III. Their music has always been great. If you get a chance to see them in concert, I strongly suggest you do.

  • So disappointed!

by Anonymous on 11/26/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 2 out of 5

The special effects were dated and boring. A comtemporary, upbeat makeover would drastically improve the performance.

  • Made Christmas begin...for the season

by cdwdpw on 11/26/10Greensboro Coliseum Complex - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

I loved all the music but there was too much from the one recording. All the others were fantastic....especially the last two they played now on the program.

The show was "fair". We will be going to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra on Dec. 6th. I expect that show to be much better and more lively.

  • Mannheim Steamroller was awesome!!

by Mistle on 11/26/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

We loved the Mannheim Steamroller concert but we were disappointed that Chip Davis was not performing. We did not know that he had discontiued touring due to health concerns. It would have been nice if he could have at least come on stage and perhaps could have talked a little bit about the group, so we could have seen him. Otherwise, the performance was beautiful. We loved seeing some of the original members of the group. The music was fantastic!!

  • Stuck in the 80s

by DCTheatregirl on 11/26/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 1 out of 5

Mannheim Steamroller has been performing for 35 years and their show obviously hasn't changed much since they first started. It was not worth paying $50 to hear synthesizers and pre-recorded music. The graphics, set, lights and costumes were tacky and dated. We left at intermission. Save your money for the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

  • Mannheim Steamroller's performance was Splendid!!

by Jonsyn on 11/26/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5

I have been a fan of the Mannheim Steamroller for many years and it was awesome to finally have the opportunity to see them perform live. Contrary to their magnificent show........ The significance of Christmas music is to celebrate the birth of Jesus.... so why would his birth or any reference to his existence be avoided? This was totally unacceptable by my standards---- I have no desire to attend a second performance nor will I purchase another CD of theirs--- until they put Christ back into Christmas.

  • by cmdr on 11/26/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 4 out of 5

It was a good show. The band was great as usual; sad Chip wasn't able to be here.

by pdrago on 11/26/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 3 out of 5

perfomance was good artistically; some "forced, rehearsed" moments seemed immature; frequently bored with the songs that were performed

  • Great Show, Location Needs Work

by GrapeNut70002 on 11/26/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

Mannheim Steamroller is a group of 2 "troups" that perform over the holidays. The musicians are fantastic, and they perform true to the recorded versions of the songs we have heard and loved for years. There is also the problem, if you attended to see a show, you might be disappoined because there is little interaction with the guests. Mahalia Jackson Theater is a great venue for ochestra and opera; however, its speaker system is not up to the caliber of the venue. This is the second show we have seen that relied on the theater's equiptment, and it lacks the robust dynamics to enhance the talents of the musicans. This show would have been better in the New Orleans Arena!

  • Christmas has arrived in the south

by Anonymous on 11/26/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

The music was magical. Christmas just doesn't arrive until we have the CD player loaded with Manheim Steamroller. Now that we have seen them live.....the season can begin.
