MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

My husband and I have been wanting to attend a Mannheim concert for some time, but this was the first year we have been able to go. Our expectations were more than met. This group is incredible! The videos were entertaining, but our favorite was just watching the musicians perform, making it look fun and easy! WOW! The musicians were so versatile, several being accomplished on numerous instruments. What a treat for this holiday season. We WILL return.

I have followed the Teamroller for years and this is my first concert. Well Done! It was a wonderful evening of Holiday Music. The CD has been played constantly since we got home.

  • Best Christmas Concert Ever

by BCavalierL on 11/28/10Heymann Performing Arts Center - LafayetteRating: 5 out of 5

We have their CD'sand we've seen them on television but seeing Mannheim Steamroller live was absolutely awesome. Before the concert started my daughter read the program and asked, "only 6 members?". It is unbelievable the music that these musicians and a 9 piece orchestra create. We normally go to the Nutcracker ballet at this time of the year but I am so glad we decided to try something different. I sure hope they return to Louisiana again next year.

  • the songs were classic Manhiem Steamroller

the concert was great and unforgettable. The music was superb and the mixing was perfect with enough volume to fill the auditorium with out damaging the hearing.......

  • Uplifting and Fun

by Rubye on 11/28/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I was the fan of this music but talked my husband into going with me to New Orleans. He thoroughly enjoyed the show himself, as did I. I loved seeing how their unique style of music was made and learning more about the group. It turned out to be a great trip for us.

  • Excellent show

These guys were great. Sounded just like the C.D.s we've been buying for years.

  • Mannheim Steamroller Christmas

by ARKK on 11/28/10Pensacola Saenger Theatre - PensacolaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was beyond words. A outstanding performance. The group was right on and so sync'd it was scarey. They kept you on the edge of your chair. We have all the Steamroller CD's and have followed since their inception. You always have a view of what they are like while the CD is playing, but actually being there for the first time was just awesome and beyond any comprehension. Just a great performance that has put us in the mood for Christmas. A very Merry Christmas to the entire Mannheim Steamroller production and the best to Chip, wish you could have been there, you would have been very proud of this group.

The visuals that went with the music were horrible, very disjointed.

Wonderful show. Cost was a bit high considering. Add-on costs extreme.

  • Live Performance measures up

by Anonymous on 11/28/10Heymann Performing Arts Center - LafayetteRating: 5 out of 5

The live performance was as strong and powerful as the recorded versions. I felt enveloped by the music and filled with joy at the celebration. I will definitely get tickets again.

Mannheim lived up to it's billing and my expectations.

  • Mannheim Steamroller was amaaaaaaaaaazing!

by Andrea70503 on 11/28/10Heymann Performing Arts Center - LafayetteRating: 5 out of 5

I've never seen them live before, but love their music. The show surpassed anything I could imagine. The only things that was distracting was the woman sitting behind us that wouldn't stop talking throughout the performance. How rude!

  • 25th Anniversary Tour

by Anonymous on 11/28/10Heymann Performing Arts Center - LafayetteRating: 2 out of 5

The concert was very good but the seats are too small and close together. No leg room, not even for a smaller, petite person. We were looking forward to leaving from being so uncomfortable at the center. Not as focused on Christmas as much as I would have liked.

  • A Family Tradition

    by Jobu1972 on 11/28/10Mississippi Coliseum - JacksonRating: 5 out of 5

Went with my parents who are seniors, my wife, and children (ages 8 and 10). Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience! The sets were well paced, and the screens and lights complimented the music rather than distracting from it. The musicians were fully entertaining in their interaction with the audience and each other. If you and you family ever get the opportunity to experience Mannheim Steamroller's live Christmas, it is well worth the time and money!
